On occasion there were reports of foreign body of paranasal sinuses. Most common site is the maxillary sinus. But it is very rare to experience a long-term foreign body in maxillary sinus. There are two types of maxillary foreign bodies according to etiology, one is caused by various traumatic accidents, and the other is iatrogenic cause which mainly retaining gauze or medical instruments after sinus operation or teeth extraction. We experienced an interesting case of over fifty yews resided metal foreign body in maxillary sinus caused sinusitis, and report with a brief literature review.

Odontogenic keratocyst is a central destructive lesion of the jaws characterized by a thin, fragile layer of orthokeratinizing or parakeratinizing stratified squamous epithelium. Correlation between the histologic type and the recurrence ratio remains a subject of controversy, and multiple cysts are known to be associated with the nevoid basal cell syndrome. We experienced a case of multiple odontogenic keratocyst in a 25 year-old male patient involving bilateral mandible and maxilla. The cystic mass of the right maxilla was removed by Caldwell-Luc's approach and the right mandibular mass was removed by intraoral approach but the teeth that were impacted in the mandibular bone were remained in order to prevent an iatrogenic fracture.
The Change of Nasal Patency in Postural Variaton Measured by Acoustic Rhinometry

Acoustic rhinometry which was designed by Hillberg in 1989 is a simple, accurate, obiective, quantitative and non-invasive diagnostic tool in evaluation of the geometry of the nasal cavity by the acoustic reflection from the nasal cavity. In this study, we introduced a comparative, quantitative analyzing measurements of the nasal passage geometry after 15 minutes in different positions which were performed in 30 healthy medical students who had not had previous histories of rhinological disease and had been free from any acute nasal symptoms. Under equal environmental temperature and humidity, we measured 1) distance, 2) volume from the nostril to the second notch, 3) area at the second notch, 4) volume from the nostril to area at 7cm into the nasal cavity, 5) symptom score on both sides of nose. As a result, it can be concluded that the overall nasal patency of both sides does not always keep constant. Postural change significantly aftects the nasal patency, especially in wider side. The useful parameter which represents the nasal patency in this study is the volume of nasal cavity rather than the distance to second notch, the area at second notch, the volume to second notch and the symptom score.

Background and Objectives:Acoustic rhinometry, introduced by Hilberg in 1989, is an important investigative tool in rhino-logy. It should be well suited for studies of the nasal cavities of infants and children in whom nasal airway is more important than in adults. The main objective of this study was to find normal data of nasal cavity dimension in Korean full-term normal neonates. Subjects and Method:Betwen March 2003 and November 2003, the nasal airways of 100 normal full-term neonates (56 ma-les;44 females) were examined by acoustic rhinometry (Rhinometrics) and miniprobe. MCA (minimal cross-sectional area), TMCA (total MCA), DMCA (distance from the nostril to the position of MCA) and TVOL40 (sum of volume of the anterior 40 m of the nasal airway) were calculated. Results:The mean values of TMCA, DMCA and TVOL40 were 0.220 cm2 0.944 cm, 1.716 cm3 respectively. Conclusion:Acoustic rhinometry is quick to perform, non-invasive, and it requires minimal co-operation make this dificult. Further studies are required for more accurate evaluation of the nasal airway of neonates and infants.

Chondroma is a benign tumor characterized by the formation of mature cartilage. Chondromas occur infrequently in nasal area, but are found more comonly in metaphyseal area of the phalanges and metacarpals of the hands, pelvis, sternum, and scapula. The authors present an unusual case of histologicaly proven benign nasal chondroma arising from the nasal septum. Diagnostic studies included intranasal endoscopy and CT scanning and MRI of the nose. An intranasal endoscopic tumor removal with an adequate margin of normal tissue was performed. After six months of treatment, there was no evidence of recurence.
