        Moderate- to fast-walking improves immunocytes through a positive change of muscle contractility in old women: a pilot study

        This study aimed to examine whether compared with a program without walking, intervention programs with three types of walking can improve the muscle property and immunocytes in elderly women. Thirty-two subjects were randomly assigned to control group (CON), slow walking group (SWG), moderate walking group (MWG), and fast walking group (FWG). Three types of walking on treadmill were 30 min a day, 5 days/wk for 12 weeks. Muscle contraction time (Tc), maximum displacement (Dm), and immunocytes were tested by tensiomyography and flow cytometry. After the intervention, FWG had an increasing tendency in the muscle mass compared with other three groups. Tc of biceps femoris (BF) decreased in CON and SWG, while Tc of BF in MWG and FWG (30.58%± 23.71%) increased. It was similar in the rectus femoris (RF). Although Dm of BF and RF increased in CON and SWG, those decreased in MWG and FWG. Leucocytes of CON and SWG had a decreasing tendency, those of MWG (9.65%± 13.01%) and FWG (13.01%± 13.58%) increased. In the neutrophil, only CON decreased, whereas the three groups showed an increasing tendency. Helper T cell was increased only in FWG (19.61%± 19.94%), showing significant differences between groups (P= 0.009, η²= 0.378). Natural killer cell was improved in SWG and MWG but showed a clear increase in FWG (75.76%± 63.57%). It might be confirmed that walking for elderly increases the muscle property of the lower legs as they walk faster, which might be expected to improve the immunocytes function.

      • 경북지방에서 발견된 Tsutsugamushi 병 치험 1례

        저자들은 경북 고령지방에서 발생한 tsutsugamushi 병 1예를 Weil-Felix test로 확진하였으며 Doxycycline으로 치료하여 그 경과를 보았기에 문헌 고찰과 함께 보고하는 바이다. 특히 환자의 거주지가 경북지역이고 최근 타지역을 여행한 경험이 없었다는 사실에 미루어 휴전선, 강원도, 경기도 지역뿐만 아니라 남부 지방에서도 tsutsugamushi병이 발생가능하다는 사실을 본 증례를 통해서 확인할 수 있었다. Tsutsugamushi disease is an acute, ferbrile, typhus-like disease of rural Asia transmitted by the bite of larval trombiculid mites. The disease is caused by infection with Rickettsia tsutsugamushi. Recently the authors experienced a case of tsutsugamushi disease which was serologically confirmed. Here we reports a case of tsutsugamushi disease which successfully managed with doxycycline and reviewed literatures on it briefly.

      • 향어 담즙섭취에 의한 급성신부전증 1예

        저자들은 1987년 5월 21일부터 6월6일까지 잉어의 변종인 향어의 담낭 및 담즙을 생식한 후 발생한 급성간염이 동반된 급성신부전 1예를 치험하였기에 보고하는 바이다. The toxic effect of carp bile is well documented since earlier times but its exect mechanism of toxicity in unclear till now. Recently we have experienced a case of acute fenal failure with toxic hepatitis in a 32-year-old man who ingested raw carp bile. He suffered from abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea, which occurred 3 hours after the ingestion of raw carp bile juice. Hematuria, proteinuria, oliguria and jaundice developed subsequently. 9 times of hemodialyses was performed and hepatitis was treated by conservative measure. The patient was discharged after 17 days of hospitalization. About I month after carp bile ingestion, no sequelae was detected. The authors report a case of acute renal failure due to carp bile juice ingestion with review of literature. Further study is needed as to the toxic substances of carp bile and pathogenesis.

        흰쥐에서 절식과 운동부하가 심근 에너지원의 이용에 미치는 영향

        N/A In order to evaluate myocardial energy fuels during fasting and exercise, the myocardial glycogen content and the level of plasma free fatty acid were measured. In the 24 and 48 hours fasted rats, the myocardial glycogen content was increased significantly compared with that of the normal rats. But in the skeletal muscle, rectus femoris muscle in lower limb, the glycogen content was decreased by fasting. And the level of plasma free fatty acid was increased up to two to three times of the level of control rats in the 24 and 48 hours fasted rats. The treadmill running, for 30 and 120 minutes, was loaded on the normal group and 24 and 48 hours fasted groups. The myocardial glycogen content was not changed by exercise in the normal rats. But the content of glycogen was increased proportionally to the duration of exercise loaded in 24 hours fasted rats. In 48 hours fasted rats, the glycogen content was decreased by exercise like that of skeletal muscle. The highest content of myocardial glycogen and the level of plasma free fatty acid were found in the 24 hours fasted, 120 minutes exercise loaded rats. It suggest that fatty acid is used in preference to carbohydrate when the carbohydrate and lipid are present together in heart muscle. During utilization of fatty acid in the conditions of fasting and exercise, the glycogen was accumulated in myocardium.

        부신증식으로 인한 원발성 Aldosterone증 1예

        본 환자는 전신쇠약감 피로감, 고혈압과 혈청 potassium치가 저하되어 있고 혈청 Renin활성도가 감소되어 있으면서 Aldosterone억제 시험에도 억제가 되지 않았음을 볼 때 원발성 Aldosterone증을 의심할 수 있었다. 또 자세변화 시험에서 혈청 Renin활성도가 떨어져 있었고 자세변화에 따라 혈청 Aldosterone이 증가했으며 컴퓨터 단층촬영에서 별다른 병변이 뚜렷이 보이지 않음을 볼 때 부신증식성 Aldosterone증으로 의심된다. 따라서 본 환자에게 spironolactone을 투여했고 이후 외래를 통해 추적검사 중이며 혈압조절이 양호할 뿐 아니라, 불편을 느끼던 증상들도 호전이 되었음을 알 수 있었다. 끝으로 원발성 Aldosterone증에 대한 관심을 더 기울인다면 더 많은 증례가 발견될 것으로 사료되고, 본 저자들은 보다 많은 증례를 찾아 추후 증례보고및 추적 검사할 예정이다. Primary aldosteronism is a disease that the stimulus for the excessive aldosterone production resides within the adrenal gland. It was first described by conn in 1955. And many cases were reported by physicians at present in the world. But it is relatively rare in Korea, probably due to lack of attension and medical facilities. Only about 13 cases have been reported at present. The clinical, biochemical features in 1 case of primary aldosteranism caused by adrenal hyperplasia that was diagnosed at Yeungnam University Hopsital was observed and the following result were obtained. 1. Clinical feature ; The present case was 27-year-old woman who was admitted due to general weakness and easy fatigability. The above mensioned chief complaints occured 8 months prior to admission when she delivered of second baby by cesarian section. Symptoms such as above chief complaints, intermittent muscle paralysis and cramping were noticed. Trousseau's sign was also present. The average blood pressure ranged from 170/90 to 200/120. 2. Biochemical abnormalities ; Severe hypokalemia lower than 2.5mEq/L was presented and 24 hours urine potassium showed markedly increased urinary loss.(228mEq/day). Plasma renin activity was decreased under normal range with furosemide administration.(Basal renin ; 0.01ng/ml/hr, stimulated renin 0.12ng/ml/hr). Saline suppression test revealed markedly elevated levels of aldosterone higher than normal range. (Basal aldosterone ; 320.68pg/ml stimulated aldosterone ; 451.86pg/ml). And posture test showed decreased plasma renin activity and increased plasma aldosterone level. Basal Stimulated PRG(hg/ml/hr) 0.05(0.15~2.33) 0.22(1.31~3.95) Aldosterone(pg/ml) 242.77(10~160) 432.09(40~310) 3. Adrenal CT scan revelaed no abnormal findings. 4. Treatment and course ; Spironolactone was given at OPD with regular follow-up. Her blood pressure ranged from 150/90 to 160/100 and symptoms were improved. The effect of treatment was satisfactory and further follow up would be performed.

      • COMPath: 인터랙티브 맵 인터페이스 기반의 음악 작곡 환경

        본 논문에서는 온라인 지도상의 데이터를 음악적 요소를 지닌 소리들로 변환시켜 줌으로써, 독특하고 새로운 형태의 작곡 환경을 제공하는 COMPath를 제안한다. 이 사용자 환경에서는 지도상에 사용자가 원하는 경로를 그리게 되면 경로 주변의 날씨, 교통량, 뉴스 발생 등의 다양한 데이터를 수집하고 분석하여 이를 음악적인 이벤트로 변환하여 들려준다. 지도상의 실제 정보들을 청각을 통해 들려주는 정보 제공의 기능뿐만 아니라, 다양한 정보들을 음악의 요소로 활용하여 쉽게 음악을 만들어 낼 수 있는 작곡 도구로서의 잠재력도 가지고 있다. COMPath의 사용자 인터페이스와 데이터 수집, 그리고 수집된 데이터를 분석하고 음악적으로 구성될 수 있도록 한 맵핑 과정에 대한 디자인과 구현 방법 등을 기술하였다. This paper introduces COMPath, a map-based software platform that provides a novel and unique environment for geometric data sonification as well as creative music making. COMPath allows the user to create musical events from various types of geo-related data with simple and familiar actions on an online map interface; by specifying a path on the map, the user can collect a set of local information along the route, which is then mapped to musical properties. We discuss the potential of interactive online map service as a musical interface, and describe the design and implementation of the user interface, data collection mechanism(mashup), and possible sonification mappings of COMPath.

        6주간의 뎁스 점프와 드롭 점프 훈련이 등속성 근력과 민첩성 운동수행에 미치는 효과

        Purpose: The purpose of this study is to find out the effect and chacrtaeristics of training according to the technical differences of drop jump by examining the effect of 6 weeks of depth jump & drop jump training on the isokinetic strength and agility performance. Method: Nineteen collegiate Students participated in the present study and were randomly assigned to 6 weeks of depth jump (DEJ) or drop jump (DRJ) training twice a ewek. Data on the measured variables (isokinetic strength of knee flexion and extension, the height of avertical jump, and agility test) were collected before and after a 6-week training period. A 2×2 analysis varniace (two factors mixed-effects ANOVA) was used for the statical analyses. The significant level of hypothesis verification is set-up as α=.05. Results: The results of this study are as follows. 1) The 6 weeks of edpth jump training significantly improved isokinetic strength & average power (60°/sec, 180°/sec, and 300°/sec speed condition), vertical jump performance, and agility (p<.05). 2). The 6-week drop jump training significantly improved agility (p<.05), but the isokinetic strength, average power, and vertical jump performance did not indicate significant improvement. 3) There were no significant differences between depth jmup (DEJ) & drop jump(DRJ) training on th e measured variables (isokinetic strength of knee flexion & extension, the height of vertical jump, and agility test) after 6 weeks of training (p<.05). Conclusion: It is supported that depth jump (DEJ) and drop jump (DRJ) tirnaing is an optional and usefu l method that can be used to increase isokinetic strength, powe r,and agility in the final preparation phase o f athletes before the competition season.

        폐세척으로 유발된 호흡부전에서의 고빈도 Jet 환기법의 효과

        N/A Background: To identify the efficiency on gas exchange and pulmonary pathologic changes of high frequency jet ventilation (HFJV) compared with conventional mechanical ventilation (CMV) in saline-lavaged rabbits. Methods: Twenty New Zealand white rabbits (2.7-3.1 kg) were studied under intravenous anesthesia. Following tracheostomy, a surfactant-depletion lung- injury model was produced by normal saline lavage. During the next 2 hours, rabbits were ventilated with CMV or HFJV. Arterial blood gas was measured every 30 minutes. After completion of 2 hours ventilation, the animals were sacrified and the lungs were fixed for microscopy and the degree of hyaline membrane formation was compared in each ventilation. Results: Arterial oxygenation was more efficient with HFJU (395±124mmHg, 379±127mmHg, 412±115mmHg and 421±119mmHg, at 30 minutes, 60 minutes, 90 minutes and 120 minutes) than with CMV (79±38mmHg, 81±48mmHg, 107±103mmHg and 119±123mmHg; p < 0.001), A sustained inflation resulted in immediate and sustained increase in PaO2 with HFJV (from 81±25mmHg to 357±109mmHg), but no significant increases with CMU (from 80±22mmHg to 100±68mmHg). Arterial oxygenation was more efficient with HF3V (395±124, 379±127, 412±115 and 421±119mmHg, at 30, 60, 90 and 120 minutes) than with CMV (79±38, 81±48, 107±103, 119±123mmHg; p<0.0001). Hyaline membranes were slightly more developed with CMU, but not significant compared with HFJV. Death resulted from pneumothorax or a progressive metabolic acidosis with CMV, but all the rabbits with HFJV survived until the planned termination of the protocol. Conclusions: HFJV produced more efficient gas exchange, when combined with a sustained inflation in surfactant-depletion lung-injury model by saline lavage, however, did not improve pulmonary pathology.

      • CfA 경험 모델을 적용한 대화형 TV 인터랙션 설계

        본 연구는 스마트 TV 를 위한 대화형 음성 인터랙션을 설계하기 위해, 선행연구에서 도출된 인간 대 인간 대화 패턴을 인간 대 TV 로 전환하여 TV 와 커뮤니케이션 할 때 발생하는 패턴을 검증하고 시사점을 도출하였다. 이를 위해 선행연구를 바탕으로 가설적인 태스크 별 인터랙션 모델을 구성하였고, Wizard of Oz 방법을 이용하기 위한 프로토타입을 제작하여 실험을 통해 가설을 검증하였다. 이 결과, 커뮤니케이션 과정 중 대화가 일어나는 시점과 이 때 TV 가 사용자의 요청에 대응하는 세 가지 방식을 규정하고, 각 방식의 사용 전략과 장단점을 도출하였다. This research is postulated in order to design proper conversational voice interaction for TV. The research is focused on verifying significant patterns between human and TV and finding essential implication. Based on the earlier research, we defined theoretical interaction models for key tasks and validated them using Wizard of Oz prototype. We defined the times when on-going conversational interaction is needed as opposed to short, one way command and three key ways how TV should respond depending on various situations. Lastly, we formulated strategy upon evaluating pros and cons of each method.
