Weapon systems must be readily available to achieve combat readiness, which is the key objective of the Total Life Cycle Management for the Economic Operation of Weapon System. The current weapon system is based on the concept of RAM-C and the optimization of availability versus cost targets. This study was conducted to improve system Reliability (R) & Maintainability (M) using CBM+ and the Naval Combat System. The improvements enhanced the applicability and expected effect of CBM+ based on considerations of mission criticality and combat system fighting power. Furthermore, they reduce system maintenance costs and improve availability by utilizing predictive maintenance (based on system health monitoring), maintaining system mission capability, and extending system life cycles. In addition, it is expected this method could be extended and applied to various combat subsystems by Research & Design Reflection activities during the development stages of weapon systems.
Urinary trypsin inhibitor attenuates lipopolysaccharide-induced neutrophil activation

Background: Urinary trypsin inhibitor (UTI), which is speculated to have anti-inflammatory effects, is one of serine protease inhibitors found in human urine and blood. The present study was conducted to clarify the effect of urinary trypsin inhibitor (UTI) on human neutrophil activation and its intracellular signaling mechanism in vitro. Methods: To assess the possible interactions between UTI and lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in neutrophil activation, neutrophils from human blood were incubated with varying concentrations of UTI (1, 10, 100, 1,000 and 10,000 U/ml) plus LPS (100 ng/ml) or LPS alone in 24-well plates (5 × 106 cells/well). We measured protein levels for interleukin (IL)-6 and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kits after 4 hours of incubation period. To elucidate the intracellular signaling pathway, we also measured the levels of phosphorylation of p38, ERK1/2 and JNK via Western blot analysis. Moreover, the nuclear levels of nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) were determined with electrophoretic mobility shift assays (EMSA). Results: UTI decreased the expression of inflammatory cytokines, including TNF-α and IL-6, and activation of intracellular signaling pathways, such as JNK, but not P38, ERK1/2 and nuclear translocation of NF-κB. Conclusions: UTI can attenuate LPS-induced neutrophil responses and may partially contribute to the treatment of neutrophil-mediated inflammatory diseases.
Development of a Nutritional Supplement Certified Reference Material for Elemental Analysis

A certified reference material (CRM) for the analysis of inorganic nutrients in nutritional supplements has been developed. Accurate mass fractions of chromium (Cr), iron (Fe), copper (Cu), and zinc (Zn) were determined by isotope dilution inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ID ICP/MS). The measurement results were used to assign certified values for the CRM, which were metrologically traceable to the definitions of the measurement units in the International System of Units (SI). Production of a candidate reference material (RM) and the certification processes are summarized. Each nutrient in the CRM showed good homogeneity, which was estimated using relative standard deviations of the measurement results of twelve bottles in a batch. This CRM is expected to be an important reference to improve reliability and comparability of nutrient analy- ses in nutritional supplements and related samples in analytical laboratories.
무기체계 수명주기비용 최적화를 위한 RAM-C 분석방안 연구

The management of total life cycle costs, which ensures efficient equipment acquisition and accounts for operation maintenance costs, is becoming even more important due to cost increases driven by the complexities of modern weapon systems. Most operational maintenance costs, which account for more than 60% of life cycle costs, are incurred by logistical support items such as maintenance, repair, and transportation costs caused by equipment failures. RAM design activities are required at the weapon acquisition stage to reduce these costs and improve reliability and maintainability. In this paper, the effect of redundancy on costs was analyzed, and optimal Availability and life cycle costs were calculated by RAM-C trade-off analysis. The results of this study provide basic data for establishing domestic RAM-C standards and procedures. 무기체계 첨단화 및 복합화에 따라 전체 수명주기비용이 증가되면서 장비 획득 및 운영유지 비용을 효율적으로 관리하기 위한 총 수명주기비용 관리가 중요시되고 있다. 수명주기비용의 60% 이상을 차지하는 운영유지비 대부분은 운용 동안 고장으로 인한 정비비, 수리 부속비, 수송비 등 군수지원비용이다. 이러한 군수지원비용을 줄이기 위해 무기체계 획득단계에서 RAM 설계 활동을 통해 신뢰도와 정비도 향상이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 OO 체계 획득단계에서 RAM 설계 활동 중 이중화 구조 설계 사항이 수명주기비용에 미치는 영향을 분석하고, RAM-C 절충분석을 통해 최적의 운용가용도와 비용을 산출하였다. 본 연구 결과는 무기체계 RAM-C 업무수행 간 개선사항을 도출하고 국내 RAM-C 업무 기준 및 구체적인 절차 수립의 기초자료로 활용될 것으로 기대된다.
양식산 강도다리(Platichthys stellatus)에서의 비정형 Aeromonas salmonicida 분리

About 6.7% mortality was reported in a starry flounder (Platichthys stellatus) aquaculture farm in 2022. Most of the diseased fish showed a loss of pectoral fin, hemorrhages on muscle and gills, pale gills, enlarged spleen, and nodules on kidney. Parasites, fungi or viruses (viral hemorrhagic septicemia virus and hirame novirhabdovirus) were not detected from diseased fish. However, numerous bacteria were isolated from liver, spleen and kidney. Nucleotide sequences of the A-protein-encoding virulence array protein gene (vapA) of the bacteria showed 99.93% identity with Aeromonas salmonicida subsp. masoucida. This study is the first report of isolation of atypical A. salmonicida in cultured starry flounder in Korea.
