        Plexiform Angiomyxoid Myofibroblastic Tumor of the Stomach: Report of Two Cases and Review of the Literature

        Plexiform angiomyxoid myofibroblastic tumor (PAMT) of the stomach is a recently recognized entity. Because of its rarity, only 22 cases have been reported in the English-language literature and most of these are single case reports. We report two cases of gastric PAMT. The tumor cells were bland and plexiform arranged in a myxoid stroma, which was positive for alcian blue. Immunohistochemically, the tumor cells were positive for smooth muscle actin, but negative for c-kit, CD34, desmin, S-100 protein, epithelial membrane antigen, neurofilament, and protein kinase C-theta. Mutation analyses for exon 9, 11, 13, and 17 of KIT genes and 12, 14, and 18 of the platelet-derived growth factor receptor alpha (PDGFRA) genes were performed and the tumors were wild-type for mutation.

        Safety and Efficacy of Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptor-αAgonist for Treating Cardiovascular Disease

        Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) -α belongs to the nuclear family of ligand-activated transcriptional factors. The main role of PPAR-α is to activate the expression of the genes that are involved in fatty acid oxidation to achieve energy homeostasis. Fibrates are a known class of PPAR-α agonists, and they been used clinically for their effects of lowering triglycerides and elevating high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C). Further, recent experimental studies have demonstrated the anti-inflammatory and anti-atherosclerotic actions of PPAR-α agonists directly on the vascular wall. PPAR agonists are currently emerging as a promising therapeutic option to control systemic and vascular atherogenic factors. Regardless of their strong anti-atherosclerotic properties, large clinical studies have demonstrated inconsistent results for the cardioprotective effect of PPAR-α agonists; moreover, it has been observed that they did not decrease the total mortality, which stands in contrast to the statin trials. This review summarizes the current knowledge regarding the PPAR biology and the mechanisms of the effects of PPAR-α on lipid metabolism, the vessel wall and the cardiac metabolism. We also describe the results and lessons learned from the important clinical trials of PPAR-α agonists and we discuss these drugs’ efficacy and safety.         외국인 대학원생의 디지털 리터러시와 학술 발표 전략

        This study aimed to examine the effect of foreign graduate students’ digital literacy competency on their performance of academic presentation strategies in a digital literacy environment. For digital literacy, Shin So-young and Lee Seung-hee’s (2019) “basic work utilization ability” measurement tool was used, and academic presentation strategy was measured by the internal consistency between the questions by modifying or supplementing the types and questions of Lee Da-heom and Kim Jihyun (2022). First, the digital literacy capacity of foreign graduate students is less sufficient than that of Korean graduate students. Second, foreign graduate students lack the ability to perform presentations using academic presentation strategies than Korean graduate students. Specifically, it was confirmed that foreign graduate student lacked the ability to perform presentations using strategies in the stage of presentation progress compared to Korean graduate students. Third, as the digital literacy of foreign graduate students improves, the academic presentation strategy can also improve. This study is meaningful in that the results confirmed that digital literacy is a necessary competency for successful academic presentations by foreign graduate students. 이 연구는 디지털 리터러시 환경에서 외국인 대학원생의 디지털 리터러시 역량이학술 발표 전략 수행에 미치는 영향을 살펴보았다.디지털 리터러시는 신소영·이승희(2019)의 ‘기본 업무 활용 능력’ 측정 도구를 사용하였고 학술 발표 전략은 이다슴·김지현(2022)의 발표 전략 유형과 문항을 수정하거나 보완하여 문항 간의 내적 일관성을 검정하여 측정하였다.첫째,외국인 대학원생의 디지털 리터러시 역량은 한국인 대학원생보다 부족하다.둘째,외국인 대학원생은 한국인 대학원생보다 학술 발표 전략을 활용하여 발표를 수행하는 능력이 부족하다.구체적으로 외국인 대학원생은 발표진행 단계의 전략들을 활용하여 발표를 수행하는 능력이 한국인 대학원생보다 부족하다는 것을 확인하였다.셋째,외국인 대학원생의 디지털 리터러시가 증진될수록 학술 발표 전략도 향상될 수 있다.이 연구의 결과를 통해 외국인 대학원생에게 디지털리터러시가 학술 발표 전략을 활용하여 성공적인 학술 발표를 수행하는데 필요한 능력임을 확인하였다는 데에 의의가 있다.

        Prognostic Significance of Heat Shock Protein 70 Expression in Early Gastric Carcinoma

        Background: Overexpression of heat shock protein 70 (HSP70) has been observed in many types of cancer including gastric adenocarcinomas, although the exact role of HSP70 in carcinogenesis remains unclear. Methods: The study analyzed a total of 458 radical gastrectomy specimens which were immunohistochemically stained with HSP70, p53, and Ki-67 antibodies. Results: The study determined that the expression of HSP70 was significantly increased in early gastric cancer (EGC) compared to advanced gastric cancer (p<0.001). The HSP70 expression was correlated with well-differentiated tumor type, intestinal type of Lauren classification and the lower pT and pN stage. Negative expression of Ki-67 and p53 expression was associated with poor prognosis. The study did not find any correlation between HSP70 and p53 expression. The study determined that HSP70 expression in the EGC subgroup was associated with a poor prognosis (p=0.009), as well as negative Ki-67 expression (p=0.006), but was not associated with p53. Based on multivariate analysis, HSP70 expression (p=0.024), negative expression of Ki-67, invasion depth and lymph node metastasis were determined to be independent prognostic markers. Conclusions: HSP70 is expressed in the early stages of gastric adenocarcinoma. In EGC, HSP70 is a poor independent prognostic marker and is correlated with a low proliferation index.
