<P>We investigated a cost-effective method using 10-Gb/s LiNbO3 Mach-Zehnder modulators (MZMs) for transmitting 40-Gb/s duobinary nonreturn-to-zero (NRZ) and duobinary carrier-suppressed return-to-zero (DCS-RZ) signals. The transmission performance of the signals was investigated. The optimum bandwidths of low-pass filters in transmitters using 10- and 40-Gb/s LiNbO3 MZMs were also investigated. The calculated transmission performance of the transmitter using 10-Gb/s LiNbO3 MZMs was compared to that using 40-Gb/s LiNbO3 MZMs. The effect of the bias offset in the transmitters was investigated. Compared to duobinary-NRZ and DCS-RZ signals generated by a transmitter using 40-Gb/s LiNbO3 MZMs, those generated by using 10-Gb/s LiNbO3 MZMs can be transmitted with 1-dB power penalty over 480-km transmission</P>

The spread of plasmid-mediated colistin resistance has posed a serious threat to public health owing to its effects on the emergence of pandrug-resistant bacteria. In this study, we investigated the prevalence and characteristics of mcr-1-positive Escherichia coli isolated from retail meat samples in Korea. In total, 1,205 E. coli strains were isolated from 3,234 retail meat samples in Korea. All E. coli strains were subjected to antimicrobial susceptibility testing and were examined for the presence of mcr-1 gene. All mcr-1-positive E. coli (n = 10, 0.8%) from retail meat were subjected to pulse-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) and whole-genome sequencing (WGS). The transferability of mcr-1 gene was determined by conjugation assays. The mcr-1-positive strains exhibited diverse clonal types. Our mcr-1 genes were located in plasmids belonged to the IncI2 (n = 1) and IncX4 (n = 8) types, which were reported to be prevalent in Asia and worldwide, respectively. Most mcr-1 genes from mcr-1-positive strains (9/10) were transferable to the recipient strain and the transfer frequencies ranged from 2.4 × 10-3 to 9.8 × 10-6. Our data suggest that the specific types of plasmid may play an important role in spreading plasmid-mediated colistin resistance in Korea. Furthermore, our findings suggest that the retail meat may be an important tool for disseminating plasmid-mediated colistin resistance.

In this study, dynamic stiffness analysis and static stiffness analysis were conducted by using nonlinear finite element analysis program and linear finite element analysis respectively to compare the results and to confirm reliability about results of nonlinear finite element analysis program. First, dynamic stiffness analysis has been performed on side out panel, crash box, sub-frame and BIW(Body In White) that has been connected with front bumper, rear bumper and sub-frame. Second, static stiffness analysis has been conducted on crash box and hood that has been modeled with spot weld elements and rigid body elements. Consequently, differences of dynamic and static stiffness analysis results through nonlinear finite element analysis program and linear finite element analysis were below 6 % but difference was more than 6 % as to dynamic stiffness of BIW.

<▼1><P>Reaction progress kinetic analysis utilizing single molecule trajectories revealed the comprehensive molecular mechanisms of cetuximab induced EGFR endocytosis.</P></▼1><▼2><P>Cellular processes occur through the orchestration of multi-step molecular reactions. Reaction progress kinetic analysis (RPKA) can provide the mechanistic details to elucidate the multi-step molecular reactions. However, current tools have limited ability to simultaneously monitor dynamic variations in multiple complex states at the single molecule level to apply RPKA in living cells. In this research, a single particle tracking-based reaction progress kinetic analysis (sptRPKA) was developed to simultaneously determine the kinetics of multiple states of protein complexes in the membrane of a single living cell. The subpopulation ratios of different states were quantitatively (and statistically) reliably extracted from the diffusion coefficient distribution rapidly acquired by single particle tracking at constant and high density over a long period of time using super-resolution microscopy. Using sptRPKA, a series of molecular mechanisms of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) cellular processing induced by cetuximab were investigated. By comprehensively measuring the rate constants and cooperativity of the molecular reactions involving four EGFR complex states, a previously unknown intermediate state was identified that represents the rate limiting step responsible for the selectivity of cetuximab-induced EGFR endocytosis to cancer cells.</P></▼2>

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Defects both microscale and nanoscale are play an important role in CdZnTe (CZT) device performance. Typical micro-scale defects such as Te inclusions were removed via a two-step annealing process, and their concentration was analyzed via IR transmission microscopy. In addition, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) measurement was employed to investigate the evolution of nano-scale defects after the annealing process. Dislocation and stacking faults were commonly observed defects in as-grown and annealed CZT. The line shape defects, which are possibly related to the stress field around dislocations, disappeared during the in-situ the annealing at 200–220 ° C. A Frisch-grid CZT detector made via the two-step annealing process exhibited improved energy resolution and low backscattering counts in Cs-137 gamma spectra.</P>

We selected one hundred magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) in knees of patients with internal derangement of the knee, in all of those cases, arthroscopic operations were performed. Twenty medical doctors, who didn't know the arthroscopic findings, reviewed these MRI; 5 radiology specialists, 5 radiology residents, 5 orthopedic surgeons and 5 orthopedic residents. The radiologists were not informed about the medical history and physical examination of the patients when they read the MRI, but the orthopedic surgeons had the information about those of the patients. The accuracy of reading of MRI was compared between radiologists and orthopedic surgeons, and between specialists and residents. The check-list of the reading were medial and lateral meniscus, ACL and PCL, medial synovial plica and osteochondral lesion. Overall results of accuracy of MRI reading were as follows; radiology specialist-86%-, radiology resident-77%-, orthopedic surgeon-90%- and orthopedic resident-84%-. So accuracy was superior in orthopedic group and specialist group. The medical history and the physical examination of the patients were very helpful to improve accuracy of MRI reading. Reading skill was also important for accurate reading of MRI.
