Time-course analysis of change in display color-appearance based on ambient light change

This study investigates the time course of changes in display color appearance according to changes in ambient lighting. Psychophysical experiments were conducted to observe brightness under lighting transitions in illuminance and the perceived white point under lighting transitions in correlated color temperatures. The result shows that significant change in the color appearance occurs immediately after ambient lighting changes. In addition, the initial change in color appearance depends on the lighting transition characteristics. The continuous change in color appearance was observed when ambient lighting was changed to brighter or lower CCT. On the other hand, a significant abrupt change at the initial stage of adaptation was observed when ambient lighting was changed to darker or higher CCT.
Pravastatin mitigates radiation-induced enteropathy by enhancing epithelial integrity

Radiotherapy or accidental exposure to ionizing radiation causes severe damage of healthy intestinal tissues. Intestinal barrier function is highly sensitive to ionizing radiation, and loss of epithelial integrity results in mucosal inflammation, bacterial translocation, and endotoxemia. The minipig model is a suitable model for evaluation of pharmaceutical oral bioavailability. Using this model, we found that pravastatin (PS) mitigated acute radiation-induced enteropathy. PS-treated irradiated minipigs had mild clinical symptoms, lower intestinal inflammation and endotoxin levels, and improved gastrointestinal integrity, compared with control group animals. The results of mRNA sequencing analysis indicated that PS treatment markedly influenced intercellular junctions of irradiated intestinal epithelium. In addition, we identified that PS improved epithelial integrity by regulating intercellular junction molecules, such as zonula occluden-2, occludin, and desmoglein-2 in irradiated Caco-2 monolayers. The PS-regulated gene metallothionein 2 (MT2) improved the epithelial barrier via enhancement of intercellular junctions in radiation-induced enteropathy mouse model. Taken together, these results indicated that PS regulated epithelial integrity by modulating MT2 in radiation-damaged epithelial cells. These findings suggested that maintenance of epithelial integrity is a novel therapeutic target for treatment of radiation-induced gastrointestinal damage.

A psychophysical experiment was conducted to compare the discomfort luminance level and the brightness of a head-mounted display (HMD). The results showed that as the size of the HMD stimulus increased, both the discomfort luminance level of the HMD and the brightness of the HMD decreased, but the influence of the size change was more dramatic on the discomfort luminance level than on the brightness. This study showed that to provide a comfortable luminance level for HMDs, the adaptation luminance level and the size of the HMD stimulus should be considered. However, it cannot be predicted in terms of brightness.

Radiation-induced intestinal damage is frequently observed following radiotherapy for abdominal and pelvic cancer, or occurs due to radiation exposure following a nuclear accident. In an effort to overcome radiation-induced normal tissue damage, a variety of radio-mitigator candidates have been investigated. Since the loss of epithelium and its barrier function leads to "leaky gut", recovery of damaged-epithelium is an important strategy in therapeutic trials. Centella asiatica (CA), a tradiational herbal medicine in Chinese, is widely used for wound healing by protecting endothelial damage. In this study, we investigated the radio-mitigating effect of CA focusing on crosstalk between endothelial cells and epithelial cells. CA treatment attenuated radiation-induced endothelial dysfunction in vitro and radiation-induced enteropathy mouse model. In particular, treatment of the conditioned media from CA-treated irradiated endothelial cells restored loss of radiation-induced epithelial integrity. We also identified that epidermal growth factor (EGF) is a critical factor secreted by CA-treated irradiated endothelial cells. The treatment of recombinant EGF, which can mimic the effect of the conditioned media of CA-treated irradiated endothelial cells, effectively improved the radiation-induced epithelial barrier dysfunction. Finally, we confirmed the therapeutic effects using the CA-induced conditioned medium on radiation-induced enteropathy mouse model with physiological and histological restoration. Together, our findings suggest that CA alleviates radiation-induced enteropathy by modulating the endothelial-derived EGF.
Preference of the Various Primary Colors on the Non-Transparent Display and Transparent Display

The preferred primary colors of the transparent display and non-transparent display were investigated under 3000K surround light correlated color temperatures (CCTs). The psychophysical experiment was conducted on the 24-inch LCD display and two different display (the non-transparent display and 40% transparent display) were simulated to have three different display CCTs (3000, 5000 and 6500K). Red apple, green grass and blue sky images were selected as the test image and each image was manipulated to have various primary chromaticities. About 15, 18, 15 chromaticity coordinates were selected to simulate the red, green and blue primary colors respectively. Twenty subjects participated in the psychophysical experiment and they were asked to answer the preference of each image using 7-points Likert-scale. From the psychophysical experiment result, two major findings were discovered. First, the Red primary color having the longer dominance wavelength is preferred regardless of the display CCT and display type. Second, there is no huge image preference difference between the transparent display and the non-transparent display.

2000년 4월부터 11월까찌 국내에 유통 중인 닭고기 200건, 돼지고기 200건, 쇠고기 100건, 냉동식육 가공품 100건 등, 총 600건의 식육 및 식육가공품을 구입하룩 CforfridiuuT ferfri'ngenr의 분리시험을 실시한 결과 전체분리율은 19;5%였다. Gram 염색, lecitinase 생성능, iron-milk 시험, nitrate 환원시험, motility 시험, α-, β-hemolysis 확인, gelatin 액화능, lactose 분해능, rapid ID 32A 등웨 생화 학시험을 통하여 균 분리 ·동정시험한 결과, 닭고기 23%, 돼지고기 13%, 쇠고기 39%, 냉동식윽가공품 7%의 분리율을 보였다. 왔매형태별로는 소매시장 33.5%, 중간도매상(슈퍼 등) 12.8%, 백화점 11.6곤의 검출율을 나타냈다. 분리균 117건에 대하여 PCR법을 통한α-toxin생성 확인시험 결과 70건이 양성으로 판장되어, 분리균 중 59,8%가 o-toxin을 생성하는 것으로 나타났다. 가열온도에 따른 생존율 시험결파 60'C, 10분 가열시 생존을 0.14%, 70'C, 10분 가열시 0.0003%, 80'c와 100'』에서 각 각 10븐 가열시 0%의 생존율을 보띤으며, 계절별 균검출율은 기온과 큰 상관관계가 없는 것으로 나타났다. The overall isolation rate was 19.5%.Infvidually, the cncken, pol·k, beef and frozen processed meat products showed 23%, 13%, 39%and 10% isolation rates, respectively, Isolation rates between sale places were 33.5%, 12.8% and31.6% in retail rrlarkets, sufermarkets and department storrs, respectively. From the PCR test,it showed that 59.8% of isolates (70 out of 117) Produced α -toxin. Heat survival test showedthat 0.14% and 0.0003% of (7 refingens could suuive when it was heated at 60'c for 10minand 70'c for 10min, respecti·vely However, it was completely destroyed at 80 and 100'c for 10min heating.
