This study is designed to help the companies in the golf industry establish effective marketing strategies and improve their images by investigating the consuming patterns of consumers for golf products and analyzing their buying patterns by means of behavioral study on the image of golf business. For this purpose, questionnaires were distributed through e-mail or banner advertisements to the internet users who, in their 20s or older, have experienced buying golf-related goods, using golf training courses or playing golf in the filed, Out of 1,000 respondents, 940 were adopted randomly as samples, with the incomplete or missing data excluded, SPSS/WIN 10.0 program was used for frequency and factor analysis of the collected data, For further details, t-test, one-way ANOVA and multiple regression analysis were conducted. The conclusions from the findings of this study are as follows: First, in terms of socio-demographic character of golf industry business image factors divided by reliability image, sympathetic image, social image, there was a statistically significant difference in gender, age, education, income, exercise time, exercise career. second, in terms of socio-demographic character of sports consumption behavioral factors, there was a statistically significant difference in gender, age, income, but no statistically significant difference was found in education, exercise time, exercise career. third, the golf industry business image factors appeared to account for generally the behavior of golf-related consumption by 2.2% of the whole variants of consumption behavior, It was further revealed that the reliability image factor(β= ,254) and sympathetic image factor(β = ,398) exercised a positive influence upon the consumers' behavior while the social image factor(β= -.143) affected the consumers' behavior negatively.

The 30 and 32 kDa antigens from Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Rv culture filtrates, identified as biologically important proteins in the immune responses against mycobacterial infection, were purified and used in enzyme linked ummunosorbent assay (ELISA) for the determination in specific IgG and IgM levels in cerebrospinal fluids of 15 patients with tuberculous meningitis and 17 controls with nontuberculous diseases. High reactivity to both antigens was observed in tuberculous meningitis. Mean IgG and IgM antibody levels differed significantly (P < 0.001) between patients and con trols. Mean IgG antibody levels were also higher than IgM levels in tuberculous meningitis. A comparison of the antibody levels against the 30 and 32 kDa antigen within the tuberculous meningitis patients showed higher IgG reactivity to the 30 kDa than to the 32 kDa antigen, suggesting that the antibody response of these patients is directed predominantly against the 30 kDa protein. However, the patterns of reactivity to 30/32 kDa, 30 kDa and 32 kDa antigen in individual subjects were similar. By the cut-off value adding 2 stsndard deviation to the mean absorbance of controls, the sensitivity and specificity of the IgG antibody to the 30 kDa antigen were 100% and 94.4%, respectively. These values were higher than those obtained by 30/ 32 kDa and 32 kDa antigen. From the above results, it is suggested that the 30 kDa antigen may be dominant antigen and more valuable in the diagnosis of tuberculous meningitis than 32 kDa antigen.
Thrap3 promotes nonalcoholic fatty liver disease by suppressing AMPK-mediated autophagy

Autophagy functions in cellular quality control and metabolic regulation. Dysregulation of autophagy is one of the major pathogenic factors contributing to the progression of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Autophagy is involved in the breakdown of intracellular lipids and the maintenance of healthy mitochondria in NAFLD. However, the mechanisms underlying autophagy dysregulation in NAFLD remain unclear. Here, we demonstrate that the hepatic expression level of Thrap3 was significantly increased in NAFLD conditions. Liver-specific Thrap3 knockout improved lipid accumulation and metabolic properties in a high-fat diet (HFD)-induced NAFLD model. Furthermore, Thrap3 deficiency enhanced autophagy and mitochondrial function. Interestingly, Thrap3 knockout increased the cytosolic translocation of AMPK from the nucleus and enhanced its activation through physical interaction. The translocation of AMPK was regulated by direct binding with AMPK and the C-terminal domain of Thrap3. Our results indicate a role for Thrap3 in NAFLD progression and suggest that Thrap3 is a potential target for NAFLD treatment.
Measuring nematic liquid crystal anchoring energy using whispering gallery modes.

<P>Whispering gallery modes (WGMs) around the liquid crystal droplets are sensitive to the director orientation at the interface. An electric field was applied for changing the director orientation of a nematic liquid crystal droplet surrounded by polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), which induced vertical director orientation at the interface. WGMs were shifted by varying the electric field intensity, and WGM shift-dependent director response was calculated. From this calculation we obtained the extrapolation length of 0.35 ± 0.02 관m. These results indicate that WGM sensitivity can be used for obtaining the surface properties of liquid crystals.</P>

Background: Bioceramic β-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP) is used as a bone-grafting material and a therapeutic drug carrier for treatment of bone defects in the oral and maxillofacial regions due to the osteoconductivity and biocompatibility. However, the low mechanical strength and limited osteoinductivity of β-TCP agglomerate restrict bone regenerating performance in clinical settings. Methods: Herein, a biomimetic composite is proposed as a bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2)-delivering bone graft substitute to achieve a robust bone grafting and augmented bone regeneration. Results: The sequential processes of brown algae-inspired biosilicification and collagen coating on the surface of β-TCP enable the effective incorporation of BMP-2 into the coating layer without losing its bioactivity. The sustained delivery of BMP-2 from the biosilicated collagen and β-TCP composites promoted in vitro osteogenic behaviors of pre-osteoblasts and remarkedly accelerated in vivo bone regeneration within a rat calvarial bone defect. Conclusions: Our multicomposite bone substitutes can be practically applied to improve bone tissue growth in bone grafting applications with further expansion to general bone tissue engineering.

Response rate to androgen therapy in aplastic anemia has been reported at 20-50%, and patient survival of the treatment group was not different from control group in several randomized trials. We wanted to confirm our hypothesis that the clinical behavior of aplastic anemia in Korea is different from western countries by documenting better response rate and longer survival of aplastic anemia patients who were treated with androgen only. We analyzed retrospectively the data of 51 patients with aplastic anemia who were diagnosed and treated with 100㎎/day of oxymetholone during the period of January 1990 - December 2000. The results are as follows. The sex ratio was 23:28 or 1.21. There were 26 moderate aplastic anemia versus 25 severe aplastic anemia patients. The median age of patients was 42 (18-82) years. 43 (84.3%) patients received oxymetholone as the first-line treatment (Group l), whereas 8 (15.7%) patients received oxymetholone after failure of immunosuppressive therapy (Group 2) Among 43 patients in Group 1, 7 (16%) patients obtained complete response and 16 (37%) patients achieved partial response with an overall response rate of 53%, and among 8 patients in Group 2,1 (13%) patients obtained complete response and 5 (63%) patients partial response with an overall response rate of 75%. There was no significant difference in survival rates between Group 1 and Group 2 (p=0.259). The overall response rate was 57%. Among 29 patients in response group, 21 (72%) patients survived and among 22 patients in Non-response group, 8 (36%) patients survived. There was a significant difference in survival rates between Response group and Non-response group (p=0.020). The overall survival rate was 57%. Kaplan-Meier analysis revealed a longer survival in responders (p=0.0029). The oxymetholone treatment in patients with aplastic anemia increases survival rates and prolongs the survival duration.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>We report the outcome of 236 pediatric umbilical cord blood transplantations (UCBT) performed in Korea. Given that the sources of the grafts were mostly unrelated donors (<I>n</I> = 226; 95.8%), only the results of unrelated UCBT were included for all statistics. The most frequent primary disease was acute leukemia (<I>n</I> = 167). In total, 91.7% of recipients were seropositive for cytomegalovirus (CMV). The median doses of nucleated cells and CD34+ cells were 4.84 × 10<SUP>7</SUP>/kg and 2.00 × 10<SUP>5</SUP>/kg, respectively. The median times to neutrophil (>0.5 × 10<SUP>9</SUP>/L) and platelet recovery (>20 × 10<SUP>9</SUP>/L) were 18 and 45 days, respectively. Grade 2–4 acute graft‐versus‐host‐disease (GVHD) and chronic GVHD developed in 41.1 and 36.1% of cases, respectively. Forty‐five patients developed CMV disease. The 5‐year overall and event‐free survival were 47.5 and 36.9%, respectively. Multivariate analysis revealed that adverse factors for survival of the whole cohort were total body irradiation‐based conditioning (<I>P</I> = 0.007), salvage transplant (<I>P</I> = 0.001), failure to achieve early complete chimerism (<I>P</I> < 0.0005), and CMV disease (<I>P</I> = 0.001). The outcomes of the single‐ and double‐unit UCBT (<I>n</I> = 64) were similar, while double‐unit recipients were heavier (<I>P</I> < 0.0005) and older (<I>P</I> < 0.0005). We conclude that double‐unit UCBT is a reasonable option for older or heavier children and that the thorough surveillance of CMV infection and the development of an effective CMV therapeutic strategy may be especially important for Korean children, whose CMV seroprevalence exceeds 90%.
