        Positive Association of TEAD1 With Schizophrenia in a Northeast Chinese Han Population

        Objective Schizophrenia is a complex and devastating psychiatric disorder with a strong genetic background. However, much uncertainty still exists about the role of genetic susceptibility in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia. TEA domain transcription factor 1 (TEAD1) is a transcription factor associated with neurodevelopment and has modulating effects on various nervous system diseases. In the current study, we performed a case–control association study in a Northeast Chinese Han population to explore the characteristics of pathogenic <i>TEAD1</i> polymorphisms and potential association with schizophrenia.Methods We recruited a total of 721 schizophrenia patients and 1,195 healthy controls in this study. The 9 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the gene region of <i>TEAD1</i> were selected and genotyped.Results The genetic association analyses showed that five SNPs (rs12289262, rs6485989, rs4415740, rs7113256, and rs1866709) were significantly different between schizophrenia patients and healthy controls in allele or/and genotype frequencies. After Bonferroni correction, the association of three SNPs (rs4415740, rs7113256, and rs1866709) with schizophrenia were still evident. Haplotype analysis revealed that two strong linkage disequilibrium blocks (rs6485989-rs4415740-rs7113256 and rs16911710-rs12364619-rs1866709) were globally associated with schizophrenia. Four haplotypes (C-C-C and T-T-T, rs6485989-rs4415740-rs7113256; G-T-A and G-T-G, rs16911710-rs12364619-rs1866709) were significantly different between schizophrenia patients and healthy controls.Conclusion The current findings indicated that the human <i>TEAD1</i> gene has a genetic association with schizophrenia in the Chinese Han population and may act as a susceptibility gene for schizophrenia.

        Analysis of Implicatures in In the Mood for Love (2000)

        많은 학자들이 왕가위 감독의 영화에 반영되어 나타나는 ‘근심’을 1997년 홍콩 반환에 대한 염려의 결과로 간주하고, 그의 영화를 정치적인 텍스트로 설명한다. 그렇지만, 이 글은 그것을 정치적 이슈에 대한 표현일 뿐만 아니라 그의 개인적 경험에서 기인한 왕가위의 노스탤지어에서 비롯된 것이라고 주장한다. 이 글은 왕가위의 투영적 노스탤지어가 역사적 진술이라기보다 상하이 이주민으로서의 자기정체성에 대한 표현임을 주장하였다. 뿐만 아니라, 1960년대에 대한 강박이 왕가위로 하여금 재창조하도록 하게 했던 1960년대의 실상은 사회적 윤리에 의한 억압과 개인적 욕망의 분출 사이에서 발생했던 충돌 또는 긴장임을 주장하였다. 그러고 나서, 캐릭터 중심의 영화인 왕가위 감독의 <화양연화> (2000)를 논의의 대상으로 정하고, 4개의 장면을 선정하여, 이 영화에 기입된 함축 의미를 분석하였다. 이 분석을 통해, 이 영화가 억눌림과 분출 사이의 긴장을 담은 텍스트임을 밝혔다. A lot of scholars considered the anxiety reflected in Wong Kar-wai’s films as a result of the concern for Hong Kong’s hand-over in 1997 and demonstrated Wong Kar-wai’s films as political texts. However, I think that it cannot thoroughly explain Wong Kar-wais films. Because, the nostalgia in Wong Kar-wais films is also prominent. I here argue that the origin of Wong Kar-wai’s nostalgia is due to his personal experiences as well as his worries about political issue. I discussed Wong Kar_wais reflective nostalgia was self-expression as a member of the Shanghai immigrants. His obsession with the 1960s urged him to recreate the actuality of the 1960s, the conflict or tension between the repression by social ethics and the release of individual desire. And then, I took Wong Kar-wai’s a character-centered film In the Mood for Love (2000) as a text and selects four scenes to illustrate the implicatures in the film. Through the analysis, it can be identified as a text of the tension between repression and release.

        The Interkingdom Interaction with Staphylococcus Influences the Antifungal Susceptibility of the Cutaneous Fungus Malassezia

        The skin is a dynamic ecosystem on which diverse microbes reside. The interkingdom interaction between microbial species in the skin microbiota is thought to influence the health and disease of the skin although the roles of the intra- and interkingdom interactions remain to be elucidated. In this context, the interactions between Malassezia and Staphylococcus, the most dominant microorganisms in the skin microbiota, have gained attention. This study investigated how the interaction between Malassezia and Staphylococcus affected the antifungal susceptibility of the fungus to the azole antifungal drug ketoconazole. The susceptibility was significantly decreased when Malassezia was co-cultured with Staphylococcus. We found that acidification of the environment by organic acids produced by Staphylococcus influenced the decrease of the ketoconazole susceptibility of M. restricta in the co-culturing condition. Furthermore, our data demonstrated that the significant increased ergosterol content and cell membrane and wall thickness of the M. restricta cells grown in the acidic environment may be the main cause of the altered azole susceptibility of the fungus. Overall, our study suggests that the interaction between Malassezia and Staphylococcus influences the antifungal susceptibility of the fungus and that pH has a critical role in the polymicrobial interaction in the skin environment.

        Study on mechanical behaviors of column foot joint in traditional timber structure

        Column is usually floating on the stone base directly with or without positioning tenon in traditional Chinese timber structure. Vertical load originated by the heavy upper structure would induce large friction force and compression force between interfaces of column foot and stone base. This study focused on the mechanical behaviors of column foot joint with consideration of the influence of vertical load. Mechanism of column rocking and stress state of column foot has been explored by theoretical analysis. A nonlinear finite element model of column foot joint has been built and verified using the full-scale test. The verified model is then used to investigate the mechanical behaviors of the joint subjected to cyclic loading with different static vertical loads. Column rocking mechanism and stress distributions of column foot were studied in detail, showing good agreement with the theoretical analysis. Mechanical behaviors of column foot joint and the effects of the vertical load on the seismic behavior of column foot were studied. Result showed that compression stress, restoring moment and stiffness increased with the increase of vertical load. An appropriate vertical load originated by the heavy upper structure would produce certain restoring moment and reset the rocking columns, ensuring the stability of the whole frame.

        Identification and Association of SNPs in TBC1D1 Gene with Growth Traits in Two Rabbit Breeds

        The TBC1D1 plays a key role in body energy homeostasis by regulating the insulin-stimulated glucose uptake in skeletal muscle. The present study aimed to identify the association between genetic polymorphisms of TBC1D1 and body weight (BW) in rabbits. Among the total of 12 SNPs detected in all 20 exons, only one SNP was non-synonymous (c.214G>A. p.G72R) located in exon 1. c.214G>A was subsequently genotyped among 491 individuals from two rabbit breeds by the high-resolution melting method. Allele A was the predominant allele with frequencies of 0.7780 and 0.6678 in European white rabbit (EWR, n = 205) and New Zealand White rabbit (NZW, n = 286), respectively. The moderate polymorphism information content (0.25<PIC<0.50) was present in both breeds. The association analysis revealed that genotypes GA and AA had higher 35 d body weight (BW) than genotype GG in both EWR (p<0.01) and NEW (p<0.05). For the 56 d BW and 70 d BW traits, genotypes AA and GA were higher than genotype GG in both two breeds, the difference was not significant (p>0.05). Our results implied that the c.214G>A of TBC1D1 gene might be one of the candidate loci affecting the trait of 35 d BW in the rabbit.

      • 岡田朝太郎的應聘來華與『大清新刑律』草案

        Asataro Okata, a Japanese legal expert who was hired by the Chinese government, participated in the reform of criminal law in late Qing Dynasty and the writing of Draft of New Criminal Law of Qing Dynasty(1644-1912). Influenced by the work experience of MuraBaishi Tano, Asataro Okata sympathized with the vocation of associating legal reform in China.Reviewing his previous experiences, it is worthy of note that Asataro Okata worked as a member of Japan Code Investigation Association and participated in the reform of criminal law in Japan. During the reform process, part of his ideas about criminal law was not accepted by the Japanese legal academia and therefore was not written into the country’s new criminal law of 1907, which was likely to prompt him to apply for a legal job in China to realize his dream that could not be achieved in his homeland. During the negotiation on the employment contract, Asataro Okata and the Chinese side disputed over his title. In the end he was entitled “investigator” and “teacher” instead of “consultant”, which implied that the Qing government did not attach as much importance to codification as Asataro Okata did. Just because Asataro Okata was keen to realize his dream of criminal law reform, he eventually made a concession on his job title and agreed to accept the offer. He worked diligently at the Draft of New Criminal Law of Qing Dynasty to realize his dream. He even ignored his deteriorating health. In just over eleven months, the Draft of New Criminal Law of Qing Dynasty and Court Law was completed. Between them, the Draft of New Criminal Law of Qing Dynasty was the main result of his hard work in China. Although the Draft of New Criminal Law of Qing Dynasty was revised for several times, its overall framework and main legislative thought were not changed. Later, it was promulgated by the Qing government on January 25, 1911. On March 30, 1928, The Criminal Law of the Republic of China was promulgated by the Republic of China, which was evolved from the former, recognizing the value of it. In general, the Draft of New Criminal Law of Qing Dynasty represented Asataro Okata’s pursuit of new legal principles and embodied his unusual ideas about criminal law. 清末法制變革中應聘來草的日本刑法專家岡田朝太郎來華主要參與了清末刑律變革,起草了『大清新刑律』草案等。岡田朝太郎因受田能村梅上的影響,對應聘來華幫助修律的工作產生認同感。在岡田朝太郎來華前的經歷中,值得注意的是其曾在日本法典調查會擔任委員、參與過刑法改革。在參與日本刑法改革的過程中,岡田朝太郎的部分刑法思想並未被日本刑法學界所接受,未能寫入1907年日本新刑法中,這一結果極有可能促使岡田朝太郎積極應聘來華以實現其在日本無法實現的刑法夢想。從商談來華聘約的過程來看,雙方圍繞職名產生了事議。職名中並未出現“顧問”字樣,其中“調查員”和“教習”的先後排序問題,暗示著清政府和岡田朝太郎對法典編纂工作的認知和重視程度不同,清政府對職名的處理結果為“教習兼調查員”。正因為岡田朝太郎有著自己的刑法夢想和應聘目的,所以在職名上給予退讓,最終和清政府達成一致意見,同意來華。正因為岡田朝太郎積極主動應聘來華,所以其來華後工作十分努力,即使身體狀態出現問題也無暇顧及,仍堅持專心起草『大清新刑律』草案等,僅用十一個多月就完成了『大清新刑律』草案和『法院編制法』草案的起草工作。其中,『大清新刑律』草案是其在草工作期間的主要成果。其起草的『大清新刑律』草案雖經若干次修改,但其整體框架結構和立法主導思想殺未被改變,清政府於宣統二年十二月二十五日(1911年1月25日)將其頒佈。之後,民國十七年三月三十日(1928年3月30日)公佈的『中華民國刑法』以正式刑法典的形式認可了『大清新刑律』草案的立法成果。總體而言,『大清新刑律』草案一方面體現了岡田朝太郎對最新法理的追隨,另一方面還包含了岡田朝太郎的許多獨特刑法思想。 청말 법제 변혁 중, 일본 형법 전문가 오카다 아사타로(岡田朝太郎)는 중국의 초청으로 중국을 방문하여 청말 형률 개혁에 참여하고, 『대청신형률(大淸新刑律)』 초안 등을 기초(起草)하였다. 오카다 아사타로(岡田朝太郎)는 타노무라 메이즈(田能村梅士)의 영향을 받았는데, 중국에 와서 법률 수정을 지원하면서 동질감이 형성되었다. 오카다 아사타로(岡田朝太郎)가 중국에 오기 전에 일본법전조사회위원을 역임했고 형법 개혁 과정에 참여한 경력이 있었다. 일본 형법 개혁의 과정 중, 오카다 아사타로(岡田朝太郎)의 일부 사상이 일본 형법학계에 수용이 되었는데, 1907년 일본 신형법에서는 수용되지 못하자, 오카다 아사타로(岡田朝太郎)가 중국의 요청을 받아들여 일본에서 그가 이룰 수 없었던 형법의 꿈을 실현하고자 하였다. 중국의 요청을 받은 계약 상담 과정에서 쌍방은 직명(職名)을 둘러싸고 쟁의가 있었다. 직명 중, “고문” 글자는 보이지 않았고, “조사원”과 “교습(敎習)”의 선후 배열 문제가 있었는데, 이는 청정부와 오카다 아사타로(岡田朝太郎)가 법전 편집 업무의 인지와 중시 정도 방면에서 인식이 서로 다름을 암시한 것인데, 청정부의 직명의 처리 결과는 “교습 겸 조사원”이었다. 왜냐하면 오카다 아사타로(岡田朝太郎)는 자신의 형법의 꿈과 청정부의 초청에 응한 목적이 있었기 때문에, 직명을 양보하고, 청정부와 최종적으로 의견 일치를 달성하여 중국 방문을 동의하였다. 오카다 아사타로(岡田朝太郎)는 적극적으로 요청에 응하여 중국에 왔기 때문에, 중국에 와서도 업무에 많은 노력을 기울였고, 비록 몸 상태에 문제가 생겼다 하더라도 개의치 않고, 『대청신형률(大淸新刑律)』초안에 심혈을 기울여 11개월 만에 『대청신형률(大淸新刑律)』과 『법원편제법(法院編制法)』의 초안을 잡았다. 그 중, 『대청신형률(大淸新刑律)』 초안은 중국에서 업무를 하는 기간 동안 이룩한 주요 성과이다. 초안을 잡았던 『대청신형률(大淸新刑律)』이 비록 여러 차례 수정을 거처야 할 만큼 고난의 과정을 거쳤지만, 전체 구조와 입법 사상은 변하지 않았으며, 선통(宣統) 2년 12월 25일(1911年 1月 25日) 청정부가 반포하였다. 그 후, 중화민국 17년 3월 30일(1928年 3月 30日) 공포한 『중화민국형법(中華民國刑法)』은 정식 형법법전의 형식으로 『대청신형률(大淸新刑律)』 초안의 입법 성과를 인가하였다. 총체적으로 말하자면, 『대청신형률(大淸新刑律)』은 일면 오카다 아사타로(岡田朝太郎)의 최신 법리를 실현했고, 또 오카다 아사타로(岡田朝太郎)의 독특한 형법 사상도 포함하였다.

        Low-Temperature Synthesis of Highly Efficient, Deep-Red Zn-Cu-In-Se/ZnSe Fluorescence Quantum Dots

        We report a facile synthesis method on CuInSe2 (CISe)-based quantum dots (QDs) by using tri-n-octylphosphine selenium (TOPSe) as selenide precursor, with assistance of oleylamine (OAm) and n-dodecanethiol (DDT). We demonstrate that the OAm and DDT jointly contribute to the formation of the low-temperature-decomposable metal-sulfide clusters, and promote the QD nucleation at relatively low temperature range of 180–200 ℃. Furthermore, to improve fluorescence property, Zn-doping and ZnSe coating are simultaneously carried out. The obtained deep-red ZnCISe/ZnSe QDs possess higher quantum yield of 65% at wavelength of 670 nm, which is in the best performance range ever reported. Then, we investigate the improvement mechanism, where the sufficient Zn replacement of In sites is the crucial factor. This modified core–shell structure provides two benefits, on the one hand, the enhancement on intrinsic defect-related recombination, and the other hand, the improved core–shell interface that reduces the nonradiative recombination.

      • Lung Cancer in a Rural Area of China: Rapid Rise in Incidence and Poor Improvement in Survival

        Background: Lung cancer has been a major health problem in developed countries for several decades, and has emerged recently as the leading cause of cancer death in many developing countries. The incidence of lung cancer appears to be increasing more rapidly in rural than in urban areas of China. This paper presents the trends of lung cancer incidence and survival derived from a 40-year population-based cancer monitoring program in a rural area, Qidong, China. Materials and Methods: The Qidong cancer registration data of 1972-2011 were used to calculate the crude rate, age-standardized rate by Chinese population (CASR) and by world population (WASR), birth cohort rates, and other descriptive features. Active and passive methods were used to construct the data set, with a deadline of the latest follow-up of April 30, 2012. Results: The total number of lung cancer cases was 15,340, accounting for 16.5% of all sites combined. The crude incidence rate, CASR and WASR of this cancer were 34.1, 15.7 and 25.4 per 100,000, respectively. Males had higher crude rates than females (49.7 vs 19.0). Rapidly increasing trends were found in annual percent change resulting in lung cancer being a number one cancer site after year 2010 in Qidong. Birth cohort analysis showed incidence rates have increased for all age groups over 24 years old. The 5 year observed survival rates were 3.55% in 1973-1977, 3.92 in 1983-1987, 3.69% in 1993-1997, and 6.32% in 2003-2007. Males experienced poorer survival than did females. Conclusions: Lung cancer has become a major cancer-related health problem in this rural area. The rapid increases in incidence likely result from an increased cigarette smoking rate and evolving environmental risk factors. Lung cancer survival, while showing some improvement in prognosis, still remains well below that observed in the developed areas of the world.

        Dammarane-type triterpene oligoglycosides from the leaves and stems of Panax notoginseng and their antiinflammatory activities

        Background: Inflammation is widespread in the clinical pathology and closely associated to the progressof many diseases. Triterpenoid saponins as a key group of active ingredients in Panax notoginseng (Burk.)F.H. Chen were demonstrated to show antiinflammatory effects. However, the chemical structures ofsaponins in the leaves and stems of Panax notoginseng (PNLS) are still not fully clear. Herein, the isolation,purification and further evaluation of the antiinflammatory activity of dammarane-type triterpenoidsaponins from PNLS were conducted. Methods: Silica gel and reversed-phase C8 column chromatography were used. Furthermore, preparativeHPLC was used as a final purification technique to obtain minor saponins with high purities. MS, NMRexperiments, and chemical methods were used in the structural identifications. The antiinflammatoryactivities of the isolated saponins were assessed by measuring the nitric oxide production in RAW 264.7cells stimulated by lipopolysaccharides. Real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction wasused to measure the gene expressions of inflammation-related gene. Results: Eight new minor dammarane-type triterpene oligoglycosides, namely notoginsenosides LK1-LK8 (1e8) were obtained from PNLS, along with seven known ones. Among the isolated saponins,gypenoside IX significantly suppressed the nitric oxide production and inflammatory cytokines includingtumor necrosis factor-a, interleukin 10, interferon-inducible protein 10 and interleukin-1b. Conclusion: The eight saponins may enrich and expand the chemical library of saponins in Panax genus. Moreover, it is reported for the first time that gypenoside IX showed moderate antiinflammatory activity.

        Cultural Discount Analysis of Chinese and Korean Co-production Movies

        글로벌한 배경에서 영상언어의 무국경성은 영화를 적재체로 하는 교류를 각 나라의 문화산업 교류차원에서 중요한 내용으로 만든다. 이에 따라 미중, 중일, 한중 등의 영화 합작은 현재 중국 영화 산업의 중요한 구성 부분이 됐다. 이 가운데 한국과 중국은 한옷에 물을 끼고 사는 가까운 이웃으로, 양국 영화 간의 교류도 날로 늘고 있다. 한국 영화는 1990년대부터 되살아나 2000년대 초반 호황을 구가하며 국제 사회에 서독 특한 영향력을 형성하고 있으며 특히 범죄, 미스터리, 멜로 등 장르 영화에 자신만의 특색을 이루고 있다. 2000년 한중 합작영화가 등장하고 2014년 한중 합작영화 협약이 체결되면서 한중 합작영화가 급물살을 탔다. 그러나 한중 합작 영화는 전파효과, 시장 평가면에서 기대에 못 미쳤다. 이 글은 한중 합작 영화의 현재 상황에 따라 문화 할인 이론을 활용해 한중 합작 영화의 문화 할인이 발생한 이유와 이를 어떻게 최대한 피할 수 있는지 분석한다. Under the background of globalization, the borderless nature of film and television language makes the exchange of film as the carrier become an important part of cultural exchanges in various countries. Therefore, film co-production between China and the United States, China and Japan, China and South Korea and other countries has become an important part of the current Chinese film industry. Among them, China and South Korea are close neighbors, and the exchanges between the two countries" films are also increasing. Korean movies have recovered since the 1990s, and they prospered at the beginning of the 21st century, and have formed a unique influence in the international community, especially in crime, suspense, love and other types of films. The co-production of Chinese and Korean films began to appear in 2000, and the signing of the "China-Korea Co-production Film Agreement" in 2014 prompted the rapid convergence of Chinese and Korean film co-productions. However, the co-productions of China and South Korea did not achieve good expectations in terms of communication effects and market evaluation. This article will use the "cultural discount" theory in cross-cultural communication to analyze the reasons for the cultural discounts produced by Chinese and Korean co-productions and how to avoid this phenomenon to the maximum extent.
