      • 大氣公害가 養蠶에 미치는 影響에 관한 硏究 : 人工 飼料中의 카드미움 濃度와 家蠶形質과의 關係 Relation between Silkworm larval characters and the levels of cadmium density in diets

        Performed to study on effect of economic characters and quantity of Cd in silkworm body by feeding artificial diet which aded Cd per density to all age silkworms. The results were as follows: 1. Each treated parts was a little longer than control on silkworm larval duration. 2. Growing condition of 40 ppm on the 7th day after commencement incubation was uneven and found out around 80% of 1st instar-silkworm larvae which almost didn't grow at ones of 80 ppm. 3. Maximum weight of the 5th instar, pupation ratio, weight of cocoon, weight of cocoon layer and cocoon layer ratio of parts of 1,10, and 20 ppm was a lettle higher than control, but only ones of 40 ppm was lower than those. And found out it ws chronic toxicity. 4. Each treated parts on eclosion period was longer than control. Expecially non-eclosion ratio of 40 ppm was 30%. 5. The safe level density of Cd in diet was 20 ppm. 6. Toxicity will be occurred when Cd contents in is more than 5 PPM in silkworm body.

        광중합기의 광원에 따른 브라켓 전단결합강도 비교

        제논 플라즈마 아크 광중합기나 LED 광중합기가 치과영역에 소개된 이후로 기존의 텅스텐 할로겐 광중합기를 사용할 때에 비해 교정장치의 부착시간이 현저하게 줄어들 수 있게 되었다. 제논 플라즈마 아크 광중합기에 대한 중합시간과 전단강도에 대해서는 여러 연구가 있어왔던 반면, LED 광중합기를 이용하여 교정용장치의 부착을 위한 중합시간에 대한 연구는 미진하다. 본 연구의 목적은 LED 광중합기의 중합시간에 따른 결합강도를 플라즈마 아크 광중합기와 비교하여 적절한 브라켓의 부착강도를 얻기 위해 요구되는 중합시간을 알아보는데 있다. 120개의 발치된 사람의 소구치에 컴포짓 레진으로 브라켓을 부착시킨 후 4초, 6초, 8초 동안 플라즈마 아크 광원과 LED 광원으로 각각 중합시켰다. 그 후 결합강도를 만능시험기(Universal Testing Machine)로 계측한 결과, 플라즈마 아크 광중합기에서는 4초 이상에서, LED 광중합기에서는 8초 이상의 중합시간에서 기존의 할로겐 광원을 40초간 노출시켰을 때와 비슷한 전단결합강도를 나타내었다. 플라즈마 아크 광중합기와 LED 광중합기의 중합시간이 접착제 잔류지수(adhesive remnant index) 수치에 대해 영향을 미치지 않았다. With the introduction of the xenon plasma arc curing light and the LED curing light as orthodontic curing lights, the polymerizing time of orthodontic composites has clearly decreased. In contrast to various research cases regarding the polymerization time and bond strength of the xenon plasma arc curing light, not enough research exists on the LED curing light, including the appropriate polymerization time. The objective of this research was to compare the bond strength of the plasma curing light and the LED curing light in regards to the polymerization time. The polymerization time needed to achieve an appropriate adhesion strength of the bracket has also been studied. After applying orthodontic brackets using composite resin onto 120 human premolars, the plasma arc curing light and the LED curing light were used for polymerization for 4, 6, and 8 seconds accordingly. This research proved that the LED curing light provided appropriate bond strength for mounting orthodontic brackets even with short seconds of polymerization. The expensive cost and large size of the device limits the use of the plasma arc curing light, whereas the low cost and easy handling of the LED curing light may lead to greater use in orthodontics.

        초등학교 급식소에서의 HACCP 적용을 위한 계절별 환경미생물학적 위해분석

        Foodservice at elementary schools has been povided nation-wide. It is predictable that foodborne diseases would increase continuously. Formation of a counterplan is urgently needed. This study was designed to identify the stage which contains the critical control points (CCPs) for the microbiological management of HACCP(Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) at the foodservice provided at elementary schools. Foodservice places at four elementary schools in Seoul were sampled and the overall hygiene of cooking, utensils and equipment, employees, and environment by season were examined. The results showed that the number of bacteria in overall samples was increased and that E. coli, Salmonella and Staphylococcus by biochemical test emerged in more diverse samples in summer than in spring. Particularly, the number of aerial bacteria in summer was three-fold greater than that in either spring or winter. E. coli 0157 was not detected, although Salmonella was identified by PCR analysis in the meat Knives, chopping boards, waste bins and meat dish at elementary school foodservice. According to this data, cross-contamination should be managed in the stage of mixing up the ingredients with improper equipments and insanitary treatments. Thus, the establishment of SSOP (Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures) and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) at elementary school foodservice is stringently required, along with sanitation education for workers and employees as CCPs.

        비만 개선 효과를 지닌 탄수화물 및 지방 흡수 억제 기능성 식이조성물 개발

        In a previous study, we developed a new food additive as an egg yolk antibody (IgY) against carbohydrate digestion enzymes for the regulation of blood glucose level and weight control. The IgY delayed and decreased the increment of blood glucose level after administration of sucrose in human being by 30% in 20∼30 min. We also developed a lipase inhibitor as a water extract of two kinds of herb, Platycodon grandiflorum and Solanum melongena. Twenty three volunteers were subjected to the intake of the egg yolk IgY plus the herbal extracts for 50 days. In average, the treated subjects appeared to lose 1.96 ㎏ of body weight and 3.4 ㎏ of body fat mass during the treated period. Furthermore, Panniculus adiposus and breech size were significantly decreased during the experimental period. Above results suggested that the administration of the dietary additives composed of egg yolk IgY and natural herbal extract improve the obesity by the decrement of body weight and body fat mass.

      • 임신여성을 제외한 성인에서의 B군 연쇄구균 감염에 관한 임상적 고찰

        목적:B군 연쇄구균은 최근 보고에 의하면 만성 기저질환(당뇨병, 악성종양등)이 있는 성인에서 감염빈도 및 사망률, 이환율이 증가하고 있는 추세이며 그 중요성이 대두되고 있다. 이에 저자들은 B군 연쇄구균 감염의 임상양상, 기저질환(위험인자)을 알아보고, B군 연쇄구균 항균제 감수성등을 규명하고자 하였다. 방법:1986년 1월부터 1993년 12월까지 경희대학교 부속병원에서 B군 연쇄구균이 배양된 274예를 대상으로 의무기록지를 검토하였다. 결과: 1) 전체 연구대상은 274예로 98예(35.8%)가 남자였고, 176예(64.2%)가 여자였다. 이들의 연령분포를 보면 신생아군에서 감염이 많이 발생하였다 이후 감소추세를 보이다가 20대 이상에서 다시 증가 하는 추세를 보였다. 2) 감염 양상은 274명중 명확한 감염이 156명(56.9%), 추정감염이 55명(20.1%), 비감염이 63명(23.0%)이었다. 임신을 제외한 18세 이상의 성인은 231명으로 남자가 83명, 여자가 148명이었고 남여 비율은 1:1.78이었다. 이중 133예(57.6%)에서 명확한 감염이었고, 46명(19.9%)에서 추정 감염, 52명(22.5%)에서 비감염이었다. 명확한 감염환자 133명중 31명(23.3%)이 병원내 감염이였다. 3) 18세 이상의 성인 231명에서 Group B Streptococcus가 분리 동정된 감염 부위는 자궁 경부 77예(33.3%), 요 73예(31.6%), 객담및 상기도 39예(16.9%), 농 24예(10.4%)등이었다. 4) 명확한 감염을 가지고 있었던 성인 133명의 임상양상은 요로 감염 37명(28%), 자궁 경부염 37명(28%), 피부, 연조직 감염 23명(17%), 폐렴 10명(8%), 패혈증 8명(6%)등이었다. 5) 명확한 감염을 가지고 있었던 성인 133명중 92명(69%)에서 한가지 이상의 만성 기저질환이 있었으며, 이중 당뇨병 32%, 뇌 혈관 질환 21%, 고혈압 19%, 신부전 12%, 악성종양 5%등을 차지하였다. 6) 항균제 감수성 검사(251예)에서 penicillin 98.4%, cephalothin 99.6%, cefamandol 98.8%, erythromycin 96.0%, clindamycin 89.4%, oxacillin 88.8%, lincomycin 87.8%, methicillin 86.8%, minocycline 49.4%, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole 15.5%의 감수성을 보였다. 7) 명확한 성인 감염 133명중 6명(4.5%)이 사망하였다. 결론:B군 연쇄구균은 만성 기저질환이 있는 성인에서 감염 빈도가 높고, 치명적인 결과를 초래할수 있으므로 감염 예방 및 조기 발견, 적절한 항균제 감수성 검사에 따라 조기 치료로 사망률을 줄여야 할것으로 생각된다. Background: Several reports have suggested that the incidence of diseases caused by Group B streptococcus is increasing in nonpregnant adults, particularly those with serious underlying diseases. The objectives of this study were to define the clinical manifestations, underlying conditions(risk factors) of definite group B streptococcal diseases in nonpregnant adults and to obtain antimicrobial sensitivity of these infections. Methods: We analyzed the records of 274 cases of the Group B streptococcus isolated in Kyung-Hee University hospital between 1986 and 1993. Results: 1) Total Group B streptococcal isolates were 274 cases : Of these cases, 7 percent were 1 month of age or younger, 3 percent were older than 1 month but younger than 18 years of age, and 91 percent were 18 or older. 2) Men and nonpregnant women accounted for 87 percent (n=231) : 133 cases (57.6%) with definite infection, 46 cases(19.9%) with possible infection, and 52 cases(22.5%) with no infection. 31 cases of 133 (23.3%) nonpregnant adult with definite infection apeared to have acquired the disease nosocomially. 3) In the 133 nonpregnant adult patients, the most common clinical diagnosis were urinary tract infection(28%), and cervicitis(28%). 4) In the 133 nonpregnant adult patients, the underlying diseases or conditions were diabetes mellitus(32%), cerebrovascular accident(21%), hypertension(19%), renal failure(12%), and malignant neoplasm(5%), Sixty-nine percent of the cases had one or more underlying diseases. 5) In the antimicrobial sensitivity tests, 98.4% of isolates were sensitive to penicillin, 99.6% to cephalothin, 98,8% to cefamandol, 96.0% to erythromycin, 89.4% to clindamycin, and 49.4% to minocycline. 6) The case mortality rate was 4.5%(6 of 133). Conclusion:We found group B streptococcal infection to be a significant and apparently increasing cause of definite diseases in nonprognant adults, particularly in those with serious underlying diseases. Recognizing these infections early in the groups with serious underlying diseases will be helpful in lowering mortality.

        The prevalence of sleep disorder is about 30% of the population. Common sleep disorders are insomnia, obstructive sleep apnea, narcolepsy, restless legs syndrome, rapid eye movement sleep behavior disorder and parasomnia. These sleep disorders lead various medical and mental complications. However, most sleep disorders are underdiagnosed and not treated appropriately. Sleep medicine is important for treating these sleep disorders and maintaining general healthy conditions. Specialized and comprehensive treatments for sleep disorder are important in sleep medicine.

      • S-519 : Cutaneous Cryptococcus laurentii Infection in an Allografted Patient with Refractory Leukemia

        Cryptococcus spp. other than Cryptococcus neoformans is generally nonpathogenic to humans. However, opportunistic infections associated with non-neoformans species including Cryptococcus laurentii have been reported in severely immunocompromised patients. C. laurentii infection, especially cutaneous manifestation has been rarely reported so far. Here we report the first case of cutaneous cryptococcosis caused by C. laurentii in Korea. A 47-year-old female who had a refractory AML after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant underwent salvage chemotherapy resulting in prolonged neutropenia. On the 18th day after the chemotherapy, multiple erythematous umbillicated papules were developed over both arms, back and right thigh, with high spiking fever. Skin biopsy revealed yeast-like organisms with round to oval budding. Despite of empirical antibiotics and oral posaconazole, fever persisted and skin lesions aggravated. Subsequent blood cultures identified that the organisms were C. laurentii. We administered liposomal amphotericin B with a dose of 5 mg/kg, and then her body temperature started to decrease (After 3 days, we changed it to amphotericin B because of the insurance problem). Skin lesions were completely disappeared after the treatment for 21 days. Unfortunately, the patient was deceased after 2 months by progressive leukemia and recurrent infections. We showed that C. laurentii might present with skin lesions as an initial manifestation. Such infection is rare, but it should be considered as a possible pathogen in immunocompromised patients with multiple skin lesions. We also suggest that amphotericin B can be an effective treatment for C. laurentii infection.

        Effect of Sesbania Incorporation as Nitrogen Source on Growth and Yield of Whole Crop Barley and Reduction of N Fertilizer in Saemangeum Reclaimed Tidal Land

        It is known that the poor soil fertility of newly reclaimed saline soils is due to the lack of organic matter and available mineral nutrients for crop production. The effect of green manuring with Sesbania aculeata in combination with five rates of urea-N treatments (N0. N25, N50, N75, N100) on the productivity of a subsequent whole-crop barley and the fertility of the reclaimed saline soil in Saemangeum was evaluated in the field during 2013-2014 growing season. Sesbania was grown during summer season (June to October). The amount of Sesbania incorporated was $16.2Mg\;ha^{-1}$. Sesbania contributed to $393kg\;N\;ha^{-1}$ to the soils when ploughed down and incorporated before whole-crop barley cultivated. The performances of whole-crop barley following sesbania incorporation were significantly affected by a combination of Sesbania manuring and different N rates. The N fertilizer equivalence without N fertilizer following Sesbania was 42.6% ($63.9kg\;N\;ha^{-1}$), compared with N100 ($150kg\;N\;ha^{-1}$) in fallow soils. The whole-crop barley yield responded to N fertilizer rates in both sesbania-amended and fallow soil. The yield response to nitrogen rates in fallow soil was linear (Y=0.0586X+3.3011, $R^2=0.9534$), whereas that in sesbania-amended soils was quadratic (Y= -0.001X2+0.1322X+5.7143, $R^2=0.9576$). The yield of whole-crop barley in sesbania-amended with increasing N rates was increased up to SN75 (115 kgN) $10.3Mg\;ha^{-1}$. Apparent N recovery (ANR) of whole-crop barely showed decreased with sesbania plus increasing rates of N fertilizer. Despite higher yield with sesbania manuring plus increasing N rates, the contributions of N from Sesbania with increasing N rates to whole-crop barley were decreased, whereas those from fertilizer increment due to excessively mineralized Nitrogen. Considering yield, ANR, N contribution from Sesbania and nitrogen fertilizer, the optimum N rate was N50 rate following sesbania incorporation.
