Construction of an integrated barcode database for the molecular identification of species

Species identification based on molecular markers is a major concern in the field of phylogenetic systematics because it has a wide range of applications such as molecular forensics and biodiversity research. Therefore, a well-organized and curated database is essential to meet this need. Barcode of Life Database (BOLD) is the main database system that stores a large variety of species identification markers. However, BOLD does not contain all of the barcode information available in other databases such as GenBank and the Korea Barcode Of Life database (KBOL). As a result, users must navigate all of these databases to obtain integrated information on barcodes and species. To solve this issue, we have constructed a molecular marker database for the integration of all available barcode information. BOLD, the National Center for Biological Information database, and KBOL were used as external sources for database construction. We carefully annotated all data from each database for the exclusion of duplicate information and unreliable data. As a result, the database contains 622,913 molecular markers that identify 104,487 species. Among these, 5,320 makers can be used for the identification of 2,326 Korean species. This database is freely available on the internet (http://203.234.220.113/).

은염건판을 반전표백 처리하여 위상형 홀로그래픽 회절격자를 제작하였다. 반전표백에 적합한 화학적 현상액을 사용하고, 표백 후 isopropyl alcohol에 의한 급속탈수 방법으로 회절격자의 효율을 높일 수 있었다. 현상액의 종류와 표백액의 조성 변화 그리고 건조 방법에 따른 회절효율의 변화를 실험적으로 측정하였으며, 각각의 경우에 제작된 회절격자의 특성을 이론적으로 분석하였다. 제작된 회절격자는 최적 조건에서 최고 88%의 효율을 보여, 상용표백 방법으로 제작된 회절격자에 비해 산란이 적으면서도 효율이 높은 결과를 얻었다. High diffraction efficiency holographic gratings in silver halide emulsion were fabricated by using reversal bleaching process. The diffraction efficiencies of gratings were improved greatly by applying rapid drying procedure with isopropyl alcohol after bleaching with optimized developers. The dependency of diffraction efficiencies on the different groups of developers, the concentration of bleaching solutions, and the drying methods are investigated experimentally and the results were analyzed theoretically. Same as usual reversal bleaching process, the fabricated gratings showed very low scttering compared to those made by conventional bleach process. The maximum diffraction efficiency was 88%.
밤 재배단지에서 갈색날개매미충의 공간분포 자료 분석: 방제로의 적용

갈색날개매미충은 2010년 대규모로 처음 발견된 이후 다양한 농․임업 분야에서 경제적 피해를 야기하고 있는해충으로, 밤 또한 갈색날개매미충의 피해가 지속적으로 보고되고 있지만 이에 대한 연구는 전무한 실정이다.이에 밤 재배단지내 갈색날개매미충의 발생특성을 규명하고, 이를 바탕으로 방제에 적용하고자 이 연구를 진행하였다.실험은 부여에 위치한 밤 재배단지내의 밤나무들을 대상으로 15-50m 간격으로 밤나무를 선정하여 표시하고 GPS좌표를 얻은 후 나무당 2개 가지에 존재하는 알, 약충, 성충 수를 조사하였다. 조사된 결과는 SADIE를 이용하여공간분포 및 발육단계별 공간적 상호관계를 분석하였고, ArcGIS를 이용해서 지도화하였으며 semivariogram을 이용하여 표본간 공간적 영향을 줄 수 있는 범위(range)를 추정하였다. 알과 성충은 95% 유의수준에서 집중분포하였으나약충은 임의분포하였고 알과 약충, 약충과 성충은 90% 유의수준에서 공간적으로 유의한 관계가 보였다. 이번 연구결과들을 바탕으로 밤 재배단지에서 갈색날개매미충의 방제 전략이 논의되었다.
응급실 환자 분류소에서 중증 패혈증 및 패혈 쇼크 환자의 조기 발견 및 예후 예측

Purpose: Early goal-directed therapy in severe sepsis and septic shock improves patient outcomes, and early diagnosis of sepsis is essential for early therapy. We designed this study to identified parameters for early sepsis detection and risk stratification based on initial vital signs. Methods: We reviewed the medical records of all adult patients without trauma who visited the emergency department at Inha University Hospital between January, 2007, and June, 2007. Patients who met all Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (SIRS) criteria, except white blood cell count, were included and divided into sepsis and non-sepsis groups. All sepsis patients were classified by severity as uncomplicated sepsis, severe sepsis, or septic shock. In addition, all sepsis patients were further classified into two groups by outcome. The parameters were compared based on initial vital signs for each group, and cut-off values were obtained. Results: There were statistically significant differences in body temperature and shock index (SI) between SIRS nonsepsis and sepsis patients, as well as significant differences in systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), mean arterial pressure (MAP) and SI between uncomplicated sepsis and complicated sepsis. Differences in SBP, DBP, MAP, pulse rate, respiratory rate, and SI between the survival and non-survival groups were statistically significant. Conclusion: The results of this study may help emergency physicians detect severe sepsis, septic shock, and high-risk sepsis patients in emergency triage.

The real-time holographic interferometer with digital high-speed camera is applied to the experimental study of laser induced plasma/plume in pulsed Nd:YAG laser welding. A pulsed Nd:YAG laser with 1.2 kW average power is applied to generate laser induced plume. The recording speed of the high-speed camera is 3,000 f/s. The high speed photographs of weld plume without another visualization method, are compared with the visualization photographs with holographic interferometer. The radiation intensity from the laser induced plume is recorded by the high speed photographs, which fluctuated during laser radiation and disappeared after laser end. The density distribution of the plume is recorded by the holographic visualization method. The experimental results show the process of generation of the laser induced plasma/plume, and give the feasibility of quantitative measurement of laser induced plume in laser welding.
