Development of a Mobile Application, "Wild Flowers of Bukhansan National Park (version 1.0)", for Identification of Plants in Bukhansan National Park

We developed the educational purpose mobile application, named "Wild Flowers of Bukhansan National Park (version 1.0)", aiming for easy identification of wild flowers for students and visitors in the park. When visitors find a flower or part of plant in the park, visitors can search for its name utilizing the pictures and characters provided in their own smartphone mobile devices or tablet PCs. The application provides pictures of wild flowers in the park and character-based searching system based on 12 diagnostic features (e.g., growth form, leaf arrangement, flower symmetry, petal color, petal number, sepal number, etc). We adopted the complete floristic survey of Chung and Lee (1962) and added species that we confirmed their distribution in the park during the development of this application. In summary, number of vascular plants in this park was estimated to be 428 taxa including 100 families, 280 genera, 327 species, 1 subspecies, 50 varieties, and 5 formas. We provided a total of 588 pictures representing 358 taxa and each taxon includes multiple pictures in many cases. Included identification quizzes can be an efficient educational tool as well as fun activity for students and visitors who are learning plant species in Korea. Our next step will include GPS function in the application for indicating visitor's location and for providing previously reported sites of the species that we interested in the map of the park. The future application which includes GPS function will be a valuable tool for the monitoring of rare plants, plant researches related to the climate changes, etc. We currently provide Korean iPhone version only, and English version and both of android versions will be serviced soon.

Prevention of medical malpractice and disputes through analysis of lawsuits related to coronary angiography and intervention

Background/Aims: Possible fatal complications arising from coronary angiography (CAG), percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), and coronary artery disease itself, are likely to cause medical disputes. Presenting the current status and reasons for judgments given in lawsuits related to CAG/PCI, this study aimed to identify ways to prevent unnecessary disputes and medical malpractice suits related to CAG/PCI through lawsuit analysis. Methods: A total of 13 cases (20 judgments) found in the Supreme Court of Korea’s Written Judgment Management System from 1998 to 2017 were analyzed. Results: Coronary artery injury was the most common causative complication that led to lawsuits (n = 6, 46%). Six cases (46%) were ruled in favor of the plaintiff for violation of duty of care (n = 4) and duty of explanation (n = 2), respectively. Cases that violated duty of care included two errors in intra-procedure device manipulation, one in pre-procedure diagnosis, and one in management of post-procedure complication. Lack of explanation regarding the risk of complications was pointed out in both cases that violated duty of explanation. The average awarded amount for the damages was 114,436,064 Korean won. Conclusions: Physicians need not fear unfair judgments so long as they follow standard of care because the Court consistently looked at the probability, the foreseeability, and the evidence. Therefore, maintaining standard of care is important. Besides, specific, detailed, and comprehensible explanations, including the risk of complications in addition to the necessity of procedures, are important to ensure the patient clearly understands the possible risk of adverse outcomes.

Elevated TRAF2/6 expression in Parkinson's disease is caused by the loss of Parkin E3 ligase activity.

<P>Parkinson's disease (PD) is the second leading neurodegenerative disease, and is known to be induced by environmental factors or genetic mutations. Among the verified genetic mutations of PD, Parkin, isolated from the PARK2 locus, shows an autosomal recessive inheritance pattern and is known to be an E3 ligase. However, the physiological target of Parkin and the molecular mechanism of Parkin-deficiency-induced PD have not been clearly demonstrated until now. It has recently been proposed that inflammation, suggesting as a causal factor for PD, is enhanced by Parkin deficiency. Thus, we examined the relationship between inflammation-related factors and Parkin. Here, we provide the evidence that Parkin suppresses inflammation and cytokine-induced cell death by promoting the proteasomal degradation of TRAF2/6 (TNF-α receptor-associated factor 2/6). Overexpression of Parkin can reduce the half-lives of TRAF2 and TRAF6, whereas si-Parkin can extend them. However, mutant Parkins did not alter the expression of TRAF2/6. Thus, loss of Parkin enhances sensitivity to TNF-α- or IL-1β-induced JNK activation and NF-κB activation. Indeed, si-Parkin-induced apoptosis is suppressed by the knockdown of TRAF6 or TRAF2. We also observed elevated expression levels of TRAF6 and a reduction of IκB in an 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine-induced PD mouse model. Moreover, elevated expression levels or aggregation of TRAF6 were detected in approximately half of the human PD tissues (7/15 cases) and 2 cases, respectively. In addition, TRAF6 and Parkin expression levels show a reverse relationship in human PD tissues. Our results strongly suggest that the reduction of Parkin or overexpression of TRAF2/6 by chronic inflammation would be the reason for occurrence of PD.</P>

Duodeno-colonic fistula is an enterocolonic fistula that occurs as a complication of Crohn`s disease. Symptoms of duodeno colonic fistula are similar to those of Crohn`s disease, such as weight loss and diarrhea. The treatment of choice is surgery, although medical treatment may also be considered. However, surgery is recommended when all available medical therapies have been ineffective. In this case, we report a secondary duodeno-colonic fistula due to Crohn`s disease that was temporarily managed by an endoscopic procedure with a detached endoloop and hemoclips as a bridging therapy to final surgical repair.

부산.경남지역의 일부 고등학교 교사들의 물리치료에 대한 인식도 조사

This study randomly chose 10 humanity high schools, which are located in Busan and KyoungNam province. We then examined the recognition rate of physical therapy among 378 teachers who were and still are working in the schools. 1. The recognition grade of physical therapeutics between men and women was significantly different with results of 80.7% of men and 69.7% of women(p<0.05). In the case of experiencing physical therapy, 83.6% of people said they knew the physical therapeutics and in the case of the opposite side, the result was also significantly different with a result of 67.8%(p<0.05). 2. We ranked the people on how much they knew about the physical therapeutics among men and women. With men, the actual experience of physical therapeutic came before what they heard from other people. In the case of women, what they heard from other people came first and the actual experience of physical therapeutic came after. According to the public information from Inje University, the recognition grade is recorded in the 3rd grade department as 21.5% while in the case of experiencing treatment from a physical therapist, the result was 39.1%. In the other department (the 1st grade department), what men and women heard from mass media was recorded at 17.5% and what they heard from other people, it was recorded at 33.8%(p<0.05). 3. The research about the recognition of academic ability of being a physical therapist was that 55.6% of teachers thought that 3-year-college was the best, which made the results different from the recognition grade of the experience of education(p<0.05). 4. In the recognition grade of physical therapeutics, there were significantly differences from 50.2% of men and 45.2% of women were expecting about 1mil ion won to 1.99million won. In case of 25.2% of people who have experience less than 15years at work, they expected about 2million to 2.99million won. The figures were higher than 10.1% of people who have experiences over 15years. About the recognition grade of physical therapists social level in the future is 48.8% of people who had experienced of physical therapy and 63.8% of people who never had experienced of it said it would be better in the future. From these results, the recognition about physical therapeutics and the view of its social status are optimistic and they know well about the level of academic ability of physical therapists. On the other hand, most teachers don't know exactly about physical therapists work. So we have to inform them aggressively for enhancing the recognition of physical therapy because high school students are well affected by their teachers when they face their future or major in university.

We experienced a 25 year-old male patient with typhoid fever complicated with massive hemoptysis. Pulmonary complication in typhoid fever is very rare and to our knowledge, there has been no report of hemoptysis as a main cause of death with this disease. We herein report a rare case of typhoid fever.

유방암 환자의 회복탄력성과 우울 및 불안에 대한 Somatic ExperiencingⓇ을 적용한 무용/동작심리치료 개입에 관한 고찰

본 연구는 유방암 환자의 회복탄력성, 우울 및 불안에 대하여 Somatic ExperiencingⓇ을 적용한 무용/동작심리치료 개입 가능성을 고찰한 연구이다. 유방암 환자들은 유방암 선고와 치료를 통해 생명을 위협받는 상황에 놓이며, 여성을 상징하는 주요 신체부위의 손상을 경험하는 등 크고 작은 신체적, 심리적, 사회적 어려움 속에서 우울, 불안, 스트레스, 외상 후 스트레스 장애 등 정신건강상 심각한 문제를 보고하는 집단이다. 하지만, 유방암 환자에 대한 심리적 개입은 제한적이며 특히, 유방암의 진단과 치료과정을 통해 심각한 외상적 스트레스를 경험하는 부분에 초점을 맞춘 치료적 개입은 매우 제한적이다. 이에 외상으로 인한 뇌와 자율신경계의 변화에 초점을 맞추어 신체 감각을 추적하는 방식으로 외상을 치료하는 Somatic ExperiencingⓇ을 무용/동작심리치료에 통합한 신체 심리치료적 개입이 유방암 환자들의 회복탄력성, 우울 및 불안에 미칠 수 있는 영향에 대해 고찰하였다. The purpose of this study is to investigate the possibility of intervention for Dance/Movement Therapy using Somatic Experiencing® on Resilience, Depression and Anxiety of Breast Cancer Patients. Breast Cancer Patients are placed in a life-threatening situation through diagnosing and treatment of breast cancer and experience the damage of major body parts that symbolize women and so on. Therefore Breast Cancer Patients group is reporting serious mental health problems such as Depression, Anxiety, stress, and post-traumatic stress disorder in physical and psychological and social difficulties. However, psychological interventions for patients with breast cancer are limited and therapeutic interventions focusing on areas of severe traumatic stress through the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer are very limited. According with these result, body psychotherapeutic interventions that integrate Somatic Experiencing®, which treats trauma by tracing the senses of body with focus on changes in brain and autonomic nervous system due to trauma in case of considering Dance/Movement Therapy on effect with Resilience, Depression and Anxiety of Breast Cancer Patients.

노인을 대상으로 생활요인을 이용한 우울증 예측모형 연구

The aims at the found out life-style factors of elderly who are currently suffering from depression, and made a predictive modeling using neural network and logistic regression. Input parameter was selected as sex, education, spouse, go-out, life satis-faction, friend, service, disable body, depression. As a result of making a predictive modeling using the logistic regression, the fitness of the predictive modeling of dental pain factors was 78.0% and neural network, the predictive was 78.49%, which is a data mining. As for the people who are likely to experience depression predicted by the neural network model, preventive measures including proper life-style, education on public health, and stress release must precede any disease treatment.
