Background: Superior colliculus is a part of midbrain, and participates in the visual reflexes, It receives afferent fibers from optic nerve, visual cortex, and spinotectal tract. After optic deprivation, the microscopic structure of the superior colliculus changed. Calcium-binding proteins (CBPs) Play an important role in the neuronal protection, differentiation and reorganization of the central nervous system, Objectives and Methods: The effects of neonatal retinal deafferentation on a CBPs, calbindm D-28k (CB), Parvalbumin (PB) and calretimn (CR), and the existence of colocalization between the CBPs were examined immunohistochemically in the rat superior colliculus. Results: On the experimental (contralateral to enucleation) side of superior colliculus, the number of CB-immunoreactive (IR) cells was reduced (77.4% compared to control), but not fibers. The number of PB-IR neurons and fibers was also reduced on the experimental side (88.5% compared to control), In the other hand, the CR-IR cells were dramatically increased (642% compared to control), but CR-IR fibers were markedly decreased on the experimental side. The colocalization between CB-CR and PV-CR was rarely observed in the superior colliculus Conclusion: These results suggest that the changes of retinotectal projection may alter the expressional pattern of CBPs in different manners; relatively stable in CB- and PV-IR neurons and plastic in CR-IR neurons.
Synergistic Effects of Leflunomide and Benazepril in Streptozotocin-Induced Diabetic Nephropathy

<P>Abstract</P><P><B><I>Background:</I></B> Leflunomide (LEF) and benazepril have renoprotective effects on diabetic nephropathy (DN) through their anti-inflammatory and anti-fibrotic activities. This study investigated whether combined treatment using LEF and benazepril affords superior protection compared with the respective monotherapies. <B><I>Methods:</I></B> Diabetes was induced with streptozotocin (STZ, 65 mg/kg) by intraperitoneal injection in male Wistar rats. Two weeks after STZ injection, diabetic rats were treated daily for 12 weeks with LEF (10 mg/kg), benazepril (10 mg/kg), or a combination of both. Basic parameters (body weight, fasting blood glucose level, and 24 h urinary protein excretion), histopathology, inflammatory [inflammatory cell infiltration (ED-1), monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1), and Toll-like receptor-2 (TLR-2)] and glomerulosclerotic factors [transforming growth factor-β<SUB>1</SUB> (TGF-β<SUB>1</SUB>) and connective tissue growth factor (CTGF)], and oxidative stress (8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine, 8-OHdG) were studied. <B><I>Results:</I></B> Benazepril or LEF treatment significantly prevented body weight loss and 24 h urinary protein excretion induced by diabetes; combined treatment with LEF and benazepril further improved these parameters compared with giving each drug alone (all p < 0.01). Increased expression of inflammatory (MCP-1 and TLR-2) and glomerulosclerotic (TGF-β<SUB>1</SUB> and CTGF) factors in diabetic rat kidney was reduced by treatment with either LEF or benazepril and was further reduced by the combined administration of the two drugs (p < 0.01). These effects were accompanied by suppression of urinary 8-OHdG excretion. There was no significant between-group difference in blood glucose level. <B><I>Conclusions:</I></B> LEF treatment lessens DN, and combined treatment with LEF and benazepril provides synergistic effects in preventing DN.</P><P>© 2014 S. <P>Umbilical cord blood (UCB)-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are multipotent adult stem cells, which can differentiation into cells of connective tissue and neural lineages. This study investigated the potential for neuronal differentiation of red fluorescent protein (RFP)-transgenic cat UCB-derived MSCs. The cells were cultured in pre-induction medium for 24 hr and in neuronal-induction medium for 72 hr. Immunofluorescent staining showed that 6.85% of the total cells were β III-tubulin-positive, 3.37% were neurofilament light (NF-L)-positive and 7.04% were neurofilament medium (NF-M)-positive. A β III-tubulin band was detected by western blot analysis. Our results demonstrate that RFP-transgenic UCB-derived MSCs can be differentiated into neuronal cells <I>in vitro</I>. Thus, RFP-transgenic MSCs could provide alternative tracing material for stem cell transplantation.</P>
IMPROVED ALGORITHM BASED ON AEKF FOR STATE OF CHARGE ESTIMATION OF LITHIUM-ION BATTERY

State of charge (SOC) is one of the most significant parameters in the battery management system (BMS). Accurate estimate of the SOC can prevent the battery overcharge and over-discharge, which can effectively increase the life of the Lithium-ion battery and improve the safety of electric vehicle. In this paper, an improved second-order equivalent model is established. The improved model distinguishes the direction of charge and discharge for the resistance and capacitance parameters. To improve the estimation accuracy of SOC, this paper proposes an improved Adaptive Extended Kalman Filter by introducing an iterative method into the AEKF algorithm. The improved algorithm mainly uses the measured voltage data to adjust the covariance matrix P multiple times in one calculation step to reduce the error in the linearization process. The dynamic stress test (DST) and urban dynamometer driving schedule (UDDS) are applied to verify the validity and accuracy of the improved algorithm. The experimental results show that the algorithm proposed in this paper has faster convergence and more accurate compared with AEKF algorithms.

본 연구는 건강노령화의 정의, 속성, 선행요인, 영향요인, 결과, 의의 및 측정도구에 대해 상세히 분석함으로써 향후 건강노령화의 이론적 연구결과를 간호실천에 응용하는 등 프로그램 개발에 기초자료로 활용될 수 있도록 하기 위함이다. Rodgers의 진화론적 방법을 이용하였고 자료수집은 CNKI, WANFANG DATA, PubMed및Web of Science등 4개 국내외 데이터베이스를 통해 검색되었다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 건강노령화는 전 생명주기와 연관이 있으며, 다양한 분야의 협력이 필요하고 개인, 가족, 사회 등 삼요소가 평형을 이루는 상태이다. 건강노령화 개념분석결과는 노령화에 대한 이론연구와 건강노령화 실행에 실질적인 도움을 줄 수 있다고 사료된다. This study undertook a detailed analysis of the definition, attributes, preconditions, influencing factors, results, significance, and measurement tools of healthy aging for their eventual application as basic data for program development, such as applying the theoretical research results of healthy aging to nursing practice. Using Rodgers evolutionary method, data was procured from four domestic and international databases: CNKI, WANFANG DATA, PubMed, and Web of Science. The results show healthy aging is related to the entire life cycle, with various fields being intricately associated. Moreover, the three factors of individual, family, and society are in equilibrium. Results of this study indicate that the conceptual analysis of healthy aging helps in the in-depth study of aging and provides practical help in the implementation of healthy aging, starting with the concept.
New Results on Adaptive Control for a Class of Delayed Nonholonomic Systems

This paper introduces a new class of uncertain delayed nonholonomic systems and studies the adaptivecontrol problem. A distinct characteristic of this work lies in that uncertain parameters and unknown time-delayexist in the system simultaneously. By proposing a dynamic gain based Lyapunov-Krasovskii method, we constructan explicit adaptive controller, which guarantees the boundedness of the states of the closed-loop system and theconvergence of the original system states. Examples are provided to show the effectiveness of the presented method.

Anthocyanin from purple sweet potato (PSP) extracted by microwave baking (MB) and acidified electrolyzed water (AEW) exhibited antioxidant activity. After further purification by macroporous AB-8 resin, the color value of PSP anthocyanin (PSPA) reached 30.15 with a total flavonoid concentration of 932.5 mg/g. The purified extracts had more potent antioxidant activities than the crude extracts. After continuously administering the PSP extracts to 12-mo-old mice for 1 mo, the anti-aging index of the experimental group was not significantly different from that of 5-mo-old mice. To a certain degree, PSPA was also effective for controlling plasma glucose levels in male Streptozocin (STZ)-treated diabetic mice. In addition, the extracts inhibited Sarcoma S180 cell growth in ICR mice. Mice consuming the PSP extracts formed significantly fewer and smaller sarcomas than mice consuming the control diets. The highest inhibition rate was 69.03%. These results suggest that anthocyanin extracts from PSP not only exert strong antioxidant effects in vitro, but also had anti-aging, anti-hyperglycemic, and anti-tumor activities.
A 3-D Steady-State Analysis of Thermal Behavior in EHV GIS Busbar

Busbar has been used as electric conductor within extra high voltage (EHV) gas insulated switchgear (GIS), which makes EHV GIS higher security, smaller size and lower cost. However, the main fault of GIS is overheating of busbar connection parts, circuit breaker and isolating switch contact parts, which has been already restricting development of GIS to a large extent. In this study, a coupled magneto-flow-thermal analysis is used to investigate the thermal properties of GIS busbar in steady-state. A three-dimensional (3-D) finite element model (FEM) is built to calculate multiphysics fields including electromagnetic field, flow field and thermal field in steady-state. The influences of current on the magnetic flux density, flow velocity and heat distribution has been investigated. Temperature differences of inner wall and outer wall are investigated for busbar tank and conducting rod. Considering the end effect in the busbar, temperature rise difference is compared between end sections and the middle section. In order to obtain better heat dissipation effect, diameters of conductor and tank are optimized based on temperature rise simulation results. Temperature rise tests have been done to validate the 3-D simulation model, which is observed a good correlation with the simulation results. This study provides technical support for optimized structure of the EHV GIS busbar.
