A time-dependent logit-based taxi customer-search model
Wai Yuen Szeto,Ryan Cheuk Pong Wong,Sze Chun Wong,HaiYang 서울시립대학교 도시과학연구원 2013 도시과학국제저널 Vol.17 No.2
In this study, global positioning system data from 460 urban taxis are used to develop a time-dependent logit model. The rate of return (ROR, also known as profit per unit time) is used as a factor underlying taxi drivers’ searching behaviour for customers. The data also reveal that the search behaviour across districts as well as the decisions towards a particular district in customer-search is strongly related to the daily profile of passenger demand, and that when the overall passenger demand is high, vacant taxi drivers tend to circulate within or wait at the area where their preceding customers got off to find their next customer. The results also show that the ROR is a significant factor that affects the customer-searching strategies of vacant taxi drivers over a day, and is inversely related to the percentage of taxi idling time. More importantly, this paper illustrates that there is a change in searching behaviour over time of day.
Cigarette Smoking in South Korea: A Narrative Review
Rebekah Gunter,Edwin Szeto,Se-Hoon Jeong,Sooyeon (Aly) Suh,Andrew J. Waters 대한가정의학회 2020 Korean Journal of Family Medicine Vol.41 No.1
Although the prevalence of cigarette smoking has declined in Western countries over the past few decades, a comparable decline among males has not been observed in Asian countries, especially in South Korea, where approximately 40%–50% of men and 4%–8% of women have been identified as smokers, and there is a pressing need to understand the background of cigarette smoking in these populations. The present study is a narrative review of the research literature on cigarette smoking in South Korea. First, we describe the social, economic, and cultural factors that impact cigarette smoking in South Korea. The paper also reviews the available peer-reviewed literature comprising observational studies and interventional studies, including randomized controlled trials. The extant literature on smoking in Korean Americans is also reviewed. Cigarette smoking in South Korea has been relatively understudied, and this review identifies priority areas for future research, including the use of mobile interventions.

Hint-seeking Behavior and Task Performance
Lestin Y.H.Lee,C.Y.Szeto,Jenny K. Tse,Can M. Y. Ng,Catherine McBride-Chang 대한사고개발학회 2009 The International Journal of Creativity & Problem Vol.19 No.2
The purpose of this research was to investigate whether performance in solving insight problems would depend on active and passive control of hint-seeking. Seventy-two college students were recruited in the experiment involving a wordguessing game format. Participants were randomly assigned to one of two conditions, with participants in the active condition having control over the hints given and those in the passive condition having no control over these. Results were that the active group performed significantly more accurately on solving the puzzles than did the passive group across trials, suggesting that actively seeking information enhances performance on insight problems.

Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in single herb or formula prescription has been used for thousands of years. Many of them possess antioxidant activity and the activity may contribute the therapeutic effect. This paper would review the relationship of traditional herbal medicine and antioxidant with particular reference to ginseng. This medicinal herb has been used worldwide with extensive tonic effect. The comet assay, a technique for DNA protecting and damaging investigation would be introduced and the application of comet assay on TCM would be discussed.

Background: C-reactive protein (CRP) is a mediator of systemic infi ammation. Peritoneal dialysis (PD) is known to cause peritoneal infi ammation and fi brosis. We study the degree of peritoneal infi ammation and fi brosis in CRP-transgenic (Tg) mice before and after PD treatment. Methods: Wild-type (WT) and CRP-Tg C57 mice (all male, 10-12 weeks old) were injected intra-peritoneally with 4.25% dextrose PD solution (3ml/mouse) daily for 28 days, followed by a 4-hour peritoneal equilibration test (PET). The mice were then sacrifi ced. Parietal peritoneum and omental tissues were collected for the assessment of infi ammation and fi brosis. Results: After 28 days of PD, CRP-Tg mice had higher dialysate creatinine and dialysate- to-plasma (D/P) creatinine ratio than WT mice. Parietal peritoneum of the CRP-Tg mice was more cellular than that of the WT mice. CRP-Tg mice also had higher connective tissue growth factor (CTGF), intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM1) and tumor necrosis factor a (TNFa) RNA expressions as well as immunohistochemical staining in the parietal peritoneum than the WT mice. In addition, CRP-Tg mice had significantly more a-smooth muscle actin (aSMA) in the parietal peritoneum and omentum than WT mice. Conclusions: CRP-Tg mice have signifi cantly more infi ammation and fi brosis than WT mice after PD treatment. Our results suggest that CRP is an important mediator of the infi ammation and fi brosis induced by PD. The implication of our results to human PD therapy needs further investigation.
