<P>CeO2, ZrO2, and CeO2-ZrO2 supported on MgO-promoted Ni catalysts are developed and applied to the reforming of methane with carbon dioxide. The catalysts are prepared by the one-step co-precipitation/aging method and characterized through various techniques such as X-ray diffraction, Brunauer-Emmet-Teller measurements, pore distribution, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, X-ray absorption near edge spectroscopy, extended X-ray absorption fine structure analysis, H-2-temperature programmed reduction, H-2-chemisorption, Raman analysis, thermogravimetry analysis, and pulse H-2-CO2 reactions. Ni-MgO-CeO2 shows the smallest Ni particle size and the particle size decreases with increasing ZrO2 content. Ni-MgO-Ce0.6Zr0.4O2 exhibits the largest oxygen storage capacity among the prepared catalysts. The size of the Ni particles and the oxygen storage capacity are found to be the primary and secondary key factors that influence the catalytic performance, respectively. The turnover frequency is dependent on the size of the Ni particles, but the catalytic performance is affected by the number of Ni active sites, which is estimated from the reduction degree and Ni particle size. Overall, the Ni-MgO-Ce0.8Zr0.2O2 catalyst shows the best performance owing to the high reduction degree and small Ni particle size.</P>

This stusy was carried out to investigate correlation between spore germination of ginseng pathogens and organic matter content of soils, and to examine the effects of various soil amendments on the severity of ginseng root rot. The results obtained were as follows; There was an inverse relationship (r=-0.177) between F. solani and organic matter content, whereas there was a direct relationship (r=0.16) between C. destructans and organic matter content. A total of 32 soil amendments were applied to the soils to investigate their effects on the severity of ginseng root rot. In their effects on the ginseng root rot caused by F. solani, the lower disease indice were under 0.3 in calcium nitrate and potasium chloride, respectively as compared with the disease index of 2.4 in the nonamended control. Calcium nitrate was most effective in the control of ginseng root rot, indicating the low diease index of 0.2. On the other hand, urea was most uneffective, indicating the high disease index of 3.9. In their effects on the ginseng root rot caused by C. destructans, the lower disease indice were under 0.3 in pig bone, hen shell, ox bone, white ciover, pine sawdust and yonguarin (F.M.P + S.P.), respectively as compared with the disease index of 2.3 in the nonamended control. Pig bone was most effective in the control of ginseng root rot, indicating the low disease index of 0.1. On the other hand, calcium chloride was most uneffective, indicating the high disease index of 4.0. Therefore, these results indicated a highly significant difference(p=0.01) in F. solani and C. destructans, respectively.

DUROESIC^(R) is a transdermal patch providing continuous systemic delivery of fentanyl, a potent opioid analgesic for 72 hours. A retrospective Drug Use (DUE) study on fentanyl Transdermal Therapeutic System(TTS) was conducted. The charts of 50 patients, hospitalized at St. Mary's Hospital from March 1. 1996 to May 31. 1996 and applied fentanyl TTS, were reviewed. The procedure collaborated DUS criteria for fentanyl TTS established by American Journal of health-system pharmacists(AJHP) and manufacturer's guideline. The following information was gathered for patient; indication for use, initial dosage, and dosage interval. As a result, 46 patients(96%) met the criteria for indication of use, 30 patients met the criteria for initial dosage conforms, and 42 patients met criteria for dosage interval. Adverse effects, constipation(44%), nausea/vomiting(23%), respiratory depression (13%), etc, were observed. This study suggests the education for TTS dosage form needs to be provided to medical team.

Bollinger cited the following criteria for diagnosis of delayed traumatic intracerebral hematoma(DTICH) : ⑴ abscence of pre-existing vascular disease ; ⑵ a definite history of trauma : and ⑶ an asymptomatic interval and a subsequent apopleciform episode. Deranged cerebrovascular autoregulation permitting increased flow to a damaged vascular bed, as well as post-traumatic coagulopathies, are proposed explanation for these lesion. 34 cases of delayed traumatic intracerebral hematoma were found retrospectively among 2,195 patients with head injury admitted to the Busan Paik hospital. Inje university in a 6-years peiod. The interval from cranial injury to diagnosis of DTICH by computerized tomography scan varied from 4 hours to 7 days. Of these, 8 cases were conservative therapy and 26 cases were performed operation for removal of hematoma. 12 cases (35%) were obtained favorable outcome, 16 cases (47%) unfavorable outcome and 6 cases (18%) death. The development of DTICH is highly unpredictable and the possibility of this complication after head injury should be kept in mind.

Ni/γ-Al<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB>, CoNi/γ-Al<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB>, and MgCoNi/γ-Al<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> catalysts have been applied for the carbon dioxide reforming of methane reaction (CDR) and coke formation in the used catalysts has been investigated to understand the beneficial effect of Mg and Co. The MgCoNi/γ-Al<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> catalyst exhibits the highest catalytic performance (X<SUB>CH4</SUB>>95% for 200h) and has high coke resistance in CDR. This is due to the addition of Mg and Co accelerates the decomposition/dissociation of CH<SUB>4</SUB> and CO<SUB>2</SUB>.
