This study was conducted to analyze aspects of women's skin care and related factors in order to contribute to community residents's right skin care. The subjects of this study was 800 women who were 15 to 65 years old. Data were collected in Daegu City and Kyungsan City from June 21, 2002 to August 18, 2002. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. 1. According to socio-demographic characteristics of the respondents, 26.8% of them were in twenties. 50.9% of them was students at colleges or graduated from collges. 38.3% was students and 37.5% was housewives. 55.5% belonged to the middle economic class. 2. 47.9% of the respondents replied that they were in good health. 57.2% of them had fair skin, while 25.1% had dark skin. According to health condition of face skin, 61.5% was in regular condition, while 26.0% was in bad condition. 29.9% had drying face skin and 21.3% had neutral or complex character of face skin. 3. Among the reasons they had trouble with face skin, the proportion of having the rough skin was highest (25.0%). 16.6% replied that they had trouble with a lot of wrinkles and 16.3% replied that they had trouble with dark face skin. 25.4% responded that their face skin was too tight. 13.3% replied that they had trouble with scars. 4. The factors significantly influencing the experience of skin care were age, education level, residence, experience of side effect of cosmetics, experience of skin diseases on face or body, experience of trouble after receiving skin care, and experience of trouble with acne. From above results, it can be concluded that selection of proper skin care rooms is important in receiving desirable skin care and preventing side effect related to skin care. The women also must be cautious in selecting and using cosmetics and massage pack. The government, related organizations, and skin and beauty specialists must make efforts to develop education programs for healthy skin care.

The mRNA levels of these factors gradually increased for 10 days and then decreased by day 15 in culture. MSCs seeded at 200 cells/cm2 that were cultured for 10 days expressed high levels of Oct-4 and Nanog. Indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase, cyclooxygenase-1, and hepatocyte growth factor expression were upregulated in the presence of the proinflammatory cytokine interferon-γ in these cells.

Conclusion

We found differences in the gene expression patterns of MSCs under different culture conditions. MSCs from 10-day cultures seeded at a low density were efficiently expanded, expressed PODXL, α6-integrin, α4-integrin, and LIF, and maintained properties like stemness and immunomodulation. Therefore, ex vivo expansion of MSCs maintained for an adequate culture time after plating at low cell density can provide an effective regenerative medicinal strategy for cell therapies using MSCs.

“Ars sacra” (聖美術) have expressed the invisible truth and mysteries of Christianity and performed various functions and roles in churches. Korean Catholic churches received no support for the production of ars sacra in the early days of the introduction of Christianity to the country due to the persecution of the faith. After the signing of the Treaty of Friendship, Commerce and Navigation by Korea and France in 1886, Korean ars sacra were principally influenced by those of Europe and a European-orientated eclectic style developed. This study aims to examine the historical background of ars sacra produced by Korean artists since the 1930s by way of an intensive analysis of Catholic Youth magazine, first published in 1933. This magazine functioned not only as a religious and educational magazine but also as a source book for ars sacra. Jang Bal (張勃, 1901-2001), an editor of the magazine, introduced Christian art works via its covers and inner illustrations. Jang also expressed his views regarding Christian art by introducing the works of the Beuron art school and Western art history focused on the Christian arts. This paper examines Jang Bal’s connoisseurship via his artworks and the theoretical background of his artistic world and via an analysis of the Beuron-style Seven Joys of the Rosary, the Blessed Virgin Mary, Jang’s most important work. In addition, changes in Korean ars sacra are examined via images of the Virgin Mary on cover pages and inner illustrations of Catholic Youth magazine. The cover of the magazine provided an open space for artists to create religious paintings. It was produced by Jang Bal in the initial phase of the magazine’s history (1933-1936) in a semi-objective, expressionist style. During the second phase (1947-1950), the freer influx of European devotional paintings influenced the cover. Some Korean painters created cover images that were adaptations of such works. The cover during the third phase (1955-1965) provided unconstrained space for a variety of experimental artworks. The works of Italian Renaissance painters and French and German Academic painters were mainly featured in phases 1 and 2, while those of Flemish Renaissance painters were newly introduced in phase 3. At this time, Korean painters began to deviate from European traditional painting styles and pursue post-figurative techniques.

In rice, tillering is an important trait determining yield. To study tillering at the agricultural and molecular aspects, we have examined a spontaneous rice mutant that showed reduction in the number of culms. The mutant was derived from a F6 line of the cross of Junambyeo*4 / IR72. It could produce, on average, 4 tillers per hill in the paddy field while wild-type plants usually have 15. Except the reduced culm numbers, they also show pale green phenotypes. The phenotypes of this mutant were co-segregated as the monogenic Mendelian ratio (χ2 = 0.002, p = 0.969). In order to locate a gene responsible for the rcn phenotype, the mutant with the japonica genetic background was crossed with Milyang21 of the indica background. Bulked segregant analysis was used for rapid determination of chromosomal location. Three SSR markers (RM551, RM8213, and RM16467) on chromosome 4 were genetically associated with the mutant phenotype. Each of the 217 F2 plants was genotyped with simple sequence length polymorphisms. The data showed that RM16572 on chromosome 4 was the closest marker that showed perfect co-segregation among the F2 population. We suggest the new rcn gene studied here name as rcn10t because there was no report which exhibit a rcn phenotype with a pleiotropic effect of pale green (chlorophyll deficiency), and mapped at same position on chromosome 4.

Measurement of regional cerebral blood flow with single photon emission computed tomography(SPECT1'was pedomed using wc-HMPAO in 16 patients with traumatic subdural hygroma, and we investigated the relationships bemeen the results and the initial clinical findings and clinical outcomes on 4-months after injury. In patients with complex subdural hygroma, i m m e n t of perfusion on fonOw up SPECT was correlated with the clinical outcome. But in patients with simple subdural hygmma, the clinical outocmes were good regardless of cerebral perfusion on initial SPECT and cerebral hypoperfusion was improved on follow up SPECT in all patients These results suggested that associated parenchymal injury, initial perfusion of the hntal cortex, and improvement of perfusion on follow up SPECT were good indicators of clinical outcome. In conclusion, HMPAGSPECT can be helpful in predicting the prognosis and assessing the effect of surgical treatment in patients with mumatic subdural hygroma

Purpose: This study compared outcomes in children with acute leukemia who underwent transplantations with umbilical cord blood (UCB), bone marrow, or peripheral blood stem cells from a human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-matched related donor (MRD) or an unrelated donor (URD). Methods: This retrospective study included consecutive acute leukemia patients who underwent their first allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) at Samsung Medical Center between 2005 and 2010. Patients received stem cells from MRD (n=33), URD (n=46), or UCB (n=41). Results: Neutrophil and platelet recovery were significantly longer after HSCT with UCB than with MRD or URD ($p$ <0.01 for both). In multivariate analysis using the MRD group as a reference, the URD group had a significantly higher risk of grade III to IV acute graft-versus-host disease (GVHD; relative risk [RR], 15.2; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.2 to 186.2; $p$=0.03) and extensive chronic GVHD (RR, 6.9; 95% CI, 1.9 to 25.2; $p$ <0.01). For all 3 donor types, 5-year event-free survival (EFS) and overall survival were similar. Extensive chronic GVHD was associated with fewer relapses (RR, 0.1; 95% CI, 0.04 to 0.6; $p$ <0.01). Multivariate analysis showed that lower EFS was associated with advanced disease at transplantation (RR, 3.2; 95% CI, 1.3 to 7.8; $p$ <0.01) and total body irradiation (RR, 2.1; 95% CI, 1.0 to 4.3; $p$=0.04). Conclusion: Survival after UCB transplantation was similar to survival after MRD and URD transplantation. For patients lacking an HLA matched donor, the use of UCB is a suitable alternative.
