The effects of Laminaria japonica fucoidan extract (LJFE) on the biochemical parameters of lipid-related function were investigated in liver and serum of CCl_(4)-treated rats. LJFE of 100 mg/kg concentration was intraperitoneally administered into rats at dose of 1.5 ml/kg for 14 days. On the day 15, 3.3 ml/kg of CCl_(4) dissolved in olive oil (1:1) was injected 12 hours before anesthetization. We examined the lipid-related functions and enzyme activitys by measuring the levels of total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) in serum. The results showed that CCl_(4) treatment increased the high values of TG, LDH and ALP decreased the low values of TC but LJFE pretreatment decreased the high values of TG, LDH and ALP to the low values, increased the TC. It was suggested that LJFE can be used as the potential candidate for the lipid-metabolism natural supplement.

The erosion behavior of artificially aged HK40 steel was invested. Erosion tests were conducted at room temperature, 200℃ and 400℃ using Al_2O_3 particles. Erosion rates increased with the increment of temperature. The maximum erosion rate appeared with the impingement angle of 30 degree. The erosion rate increased, reached the maximum at 1000 hours, and after that, decreased with the heat treatment time. The mechanism of erosion seems to be the cutting wear which is very much associated with the strength of material. As results, the erosion rates were rather affected by the tensile strength and the strain hardening coefficient than the hardness and the yield strength. Such changes of material properties would be caused by the change of micro-structure due to the precipitation of carbide and the dissolution of solid element within matrix during the heat treatment.

In order to investigate the degree of changes in quality of fryingoils to be used at snack corners and street stalls in Taegu area,color density, acid value(AV), peroxide value(POV), carbonyl value(COV), and TBA Value were measured. 95 samples in summer and 91 samples in winter were collectedfrom oils fried for fish cake, hatdogs, chicken, vegetable and doug-hnuts. The mean value of color density, AV, POV and COV on thefrying oils collected In summer were higher than those in winter,while TBA value of oils in summer was similar to that in winter.According to the kinds of fried food, the degree of the change inquality of frying oil was high in order of fish cake, hotdog·, chicken,vegetable and doughnuts.

This study was to investigate the preventive effects in anti-oxidation of Ulva lactuca extract fractions (ULEF) against CCl₄ toxification in liver total homogenate and mitochondrial fraction of ULEF-pretreated and carbon tetrachloride (CCl₄)-posttreated rats. ULEF was intraperitoneally administered into rats at dose of 1 ml/kg for 14 days. On the day 15, 3.3 ㎖/㎏ of CCl₄ dissolved in olive oil (1 : 1) was injected 12 hr before anesthetization. Activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) in mitochondrial fraction were measured and catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), malondialdehyde (MDA) in liver total homogenate. SOD, CAT and GPx were higher in the ULEF-pretreated and CCl₄-posttreated group than those in the CCl₄-posttreated group, and the pretreatment of ULEF decreased MDA. These results showed that the pretreatment of ULEF had the preventive role in the activities of anti-oxidative enzymes, SOD, CAT and GPx
