        Analysis of KAP1 expression patterns and human endogenous retrovirus Env proteins in ovarian cancer

        Background Human endogenous retroviruses (HERVs) constitute around 8% of the human genome and have important roles in human health and disease, including cancers. Previous studies showed that HERV envelope (Env) proteins are highly expressed in cancer tissues and co-related with cancer progression. KAP1 has been reported to play a key role in regulating retrotransposons, including HERV-K, through epigenetic silencing. Objective The relationship between KAP-1 and HERV Envs expressions was analyzed only in tumor cell lines and has not yet been studied in cancer tissues. In this study, we analyzed the expression patterns and relationship between KAP1 and HERV Env proteins in ovarian cancer tissues. Method The expression patterns of KAP-1 and HERV Env proteins, including HERV-K and HERV-R, were analyzed in ovarian cancer tissue microarrays that contained 80 surgical specimens, including normal ovary and malignant ovarian cancers. Results The expression of HERV-R Env and KAP1 proteins is signifcantly higher in ovarian cancer compared with normal ovary tissues. However, the expression of HERV-K Env did not change signifcantly in cancer tissues. The expression patterns of HERV-K Env and HERV-R Env signifcantly increased in early stages of cancer and KAP1 expression was higher in certain stage and types of cancers. However, the expression of HERV-K Env, HERV-R Env, and KAP1 did not change in diferent age groups. The correlation between the expression of KAP1 and HERV-Env, including HERV-K and HERV-R, was not signifcantly correlated. Conclusions The results of this study showed that there was no signifcant correlation between the expression of KAP1 and HERV Env proteins in ovarian cancer tissues, unlike studies with cell lines in vitro. These results suggest that the actual expression of HERV Env proteins in ovarian cancer tissues may be regulated through various complex factors as well as KAP1.

        저체중 또는 과체중 청소년에서 캠프 프로그램을 이용한 영양 교육효과에 관한 연구

        This study was performed to evaluate the effectiveness of a nutrition education program developed for nutritionally imbalanced adolescents. A summer nutrition camp was held for 23 overweight and 16 underweight subjects. Its effectiveness with regard to was evaluated at the end of the camp and 6 months later. Nutrition knowledge, nutritional attitude, food behavior, nutrient intake, exercise habit and ideal body figures desired by the subjects. The results showed significantly higher nutrition knowledge scores at the end of the camp as compared to those obtained prior to the camp program, and these scores were maintained for at least six months. Nutrition attitude scores also improved after the education program, and these improved scores also lasted for 6 months. However, the food behavior scores measured 6 months after the education program were not significantly different from those obtained prior to the camp. Also, the exercise habit, the ideal body figures and the body figures desired by the subjects remained unchanged. When nutrient intakes of subjects were assessed before the program and 6 months later, the mean daily vitamin C intake was significantly increased after the education program. Also, the intake of iron from plant food sources increased in the overweight subjects, while less iron from animal source were consumed by the underweight subjects. Both groups tended to consume more vegetables and fruits 6 months after the education program which may have contribute to the higher vitamin C and plant-based iron intakes. These results indicate that a 4-day nutrition education camp program sustained changes in nutrition knowledge and nutrition attitude for 6 months. The increased intake of vegetables and fruits was also achieved through this education program. However, changes in dietary behavior in adolescents may require repeated education.

        일시적인 피질맹과 인지기능장애로 발현한 간성 뇌병증 1예

        A 55-year-old woman presented with transient cortical blindness and multiple cognitive impairments as initial symptoms of hepatic encephalopathy. Her past history was negative for chronic liver disease or gastrointestinal bleeding. Neurologic examinations showed bilateral visual loss with a normal pupillary reflex to light and neuropsychological test showed significant impairments in all cognitive domains. Laboratory tests revealed increased liver enzymes, ammonia level, and positive IgG HbcAb. Ultrsonography of the liver showed findings consistent with liver cirrhosis with splenomegaly. The visual evoked potential study resulted in no wave formation on both sides. T1-weighted brain MRI showed high signal intensity lesions in both globus pallidus and cerebral peduncles of the midbrain. After treatment with lactulose, cortical blindness and cognitive dysfunctions disappeared within several days. In rare cases of hepatic encephalopathy, cortical blindness with cognitive impairments may occur before alteration of consciousness and usually recovers following treatment of the hepatic encephalopathy.

        추출조작중 알칼리용액 추출이 물에 의한 추출보다 탈리그닌, 강도적 성질이 우수하다는 원인을 구명하기 위하여 자외선 현미경을 이용하여 섬유벽내의 리그닌 분포 및 탈리그닌 정도를 관찰한 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 물과 1% NaOH 용액에 의한 추출처리에서 용액에 따라 탈리그닌 영역이 다르다. 2. 오존에 의해 산화 분해된 섬유내 리그닌의 용출은 물보다 1% NaOH 용액이 효과적이었다. 이런 이유로 물에 의한 추출보다 1% NaOH 용액으로 추출한 펄프의 강도적 특성이 우수하다. 3. 고온(70℃)에서 추출처리를 행하면 섬유표면과 루멘측의 리그닌이 동시에 용출된다. 섬유로 부터의 리그닌 용출은 실온보다 고온에서 처리하는 것이 효과적이다. In order to evaluate the delignification in cell wall by alkali extraction treatment after ozonation, the lignin distribution and delignification degree was determined by UV microscope. The delignification area was differentiated depending on extractants such as water or 1% NaOH. The content of oxidized gushing out lignin in fiber was higher by 1% NaOH extraction than by water, therefore, the strength properties of pulp extracted with 1% NaOH was better. When the extraction treatment was carried out at high temperature(70℃), the lignin was simultaneously gushed out in the surface of fiber and lumen, therefore the treatment at high temperature was preferred for the purpose of lignin gushing out from fiber.

      • 가루깍지벌레의 生態와 防際에 關한 硏究

        This payer contains some results investigation into bionomics and insecticides of Pseudococcus comstocki daring April to December 1973. The summary of the findings are as follows: 1. Occurrence was most abundant on May 30 for its first generation; on July 20 for the second generation; and on November 10 for the third generation. It passed the winter season in the form of nymph adult or egg. The eggs were usually laid in the underground of 3cm to 100cm below the surface numbering an average of 140 eggs. The percentage hatched was 93.4%. 2. Fruits most seriously damaged by the insects were in order of pear, apple, and persimmon. Among pear fruit the most sensitive variety were in order of Suckli, Sinkoo, Mansamkil and Jangsimlang. 3. The number of nymph at the first generation began to increase after 10 days from inoculation. The number of the second generation nymph reached its maximum on July 20 and began to decrease as the time passed. 4. The adult insects raised in the laboratory room facing south laid an average of 135.1 eggs. On the other hand, those raised in the room facing north had 102.9 eggs; on the average. The inserts raised in the south-facing room had finished the laying; of eggs 4-5 days earlier than the insect raised in the north-facing room. 5. The winter-passed-larvae moved their location during May and July. The larvae dwelling in the north parts moved faster than those in the root parts, but later than those in the south parts. 6. The experiment of larvae-hatching at varying temperature showed that it took 30-45 days at 15℃; 14 days at 20℃; and 10 days at 25℃ during April. At 5℃ the larvae were not hatched at all. In May the length of hatching time was a little shorter than that in April. 7. As shown in Table 12 and 13, the most effective chemicals in controlling the insects were in order of Folidol, Loxoun and Sevin. 8. Owing to the ant's disturbing activities against the parastic wasps of mealbugs, the insects were relatively safe and the damage cased by them were more serious. 9. The natural enemy collected were: Anaggrus suballipes Ishii, Allotropa burrelli Muesbeck, Scymnus phosphorus Lewis.

      • 드레인 전류 잡음원만을 고려한 스케일링이 가능한 바이어스 의존 P-HEMT 잡음모델

        게이트 길이가 0.2㎛인 P-HEMT에 대하여 드레인 바이어스 전류의 변화 및 게이트 폭에 대해 스케일링이 가능한 잡음모델을 제안하였다. 본 논문에서는 S-파라미터를 정확히 예측하기 위하여 x를 제외한 intrinsic 파라미터는 offset를 도입하여 정규화 한 후 스케일링을 하였다. 드레인 포화전류에 대한 드레인 전류의 비율과 게이트 폭을 변수로 하는 소신호 모델 파라미터의 맞춤함수를 구하였다. 또한, 잡음 파라미터를 정확히 예측하기 위하여 진성저항 잡음 온도 T_g, 게이트 단 전류 잡음원 등가잡음 컨덕턴스 G_ni 드레인 단 전류 잡음원 등가잡음 컨덕턴스 G_no를 잡음 모델정수로 사용하여 그 값을 추출하여 스케일링 하였다. 잡음 온도 T_g는 드레인 전류와 게이트 폭에 거의 추출되었다. 그러므로, G_no만을 잡음 모델정수로 하는 잡음모델과 T_g, G_ni, G_no를 잡음 모델정수로 하는 잡음모델을 측정값과 비교하여 본 결과 G_no만을 갖는 잡음모델도 측정된 잡음 파라미터와 잘 일치하였다. 따라서, 모델 정수 추출이 간단한 G_no 만을 갖는 잡음모델은 게이트 폭과 바이어스 전류에 대해 스케일링이 가능한 실용적인 잡음모델임을 확인하였다. Bias-dependent noise models of 0.2㎛ gate length P-HEMT's which are scalable with gate width are proposed. To predict S-parameters of the P-HEMT's the intrinsic parameters except for x subtracted the offsets introduced in this paper are normalized to the gate width and then scaled. The small-signal model parameters are expressed as fitting functions of the drain current to I_dss ratio and gate width. In addition, to estimate accurately noise parameters the noise temperature T_g of the intrinsic resistance, the equivalent noise conductance G_ni of the gate current noise source, and the equivalent noise conductance G_no of the drain current noise source are adopted as the noise model parameters.
