Tris[4-(2-hydroxy-3-methacryloxypropoxy)phenyl]methane(THMPM) was prepared easily from triphenylolmethane triglycidyl ether in good yield. As compared with composite resin formulated with difunctional bis-GMA, the physical properties of a newly developed composite resin formulated with trifunctional THMPM was evaluated. Cytotoxicity and acute toxicity of composite resin based on trifunctional THMPM evaluated according to ISO standard method. The depth of cure of the composite resin based THMPM was higher than that of the bis-GMA composite. There were no significant differences in flexural strength and water sorption between the composites resin based on THMPM and bis-GMA. The water-solubility value for the light-activated composite resins formulated with THMPM was much lower than that for a control bis-GMA composite. According to cytotoxicity evaluation, the composite resin based on THMPM showed very mild cytotoxicity with the response index of between 0/0 and 1/0. No acute toxicity of composite resin formulated with trifunctional THMPM was also observed. It is believed that THMPM is promising candidate for application as a photocurable dental composite resin.
Cardiac Cell Differentiation of Mouse Embryonic Stem Cells in the Co-culture with Fetal Heart

To investigate the effect of fetal cardiac cells on the differentiation of embryonic stem cells (ESCs) into cardiomyocytes, Mouse ESCs were co-cultured with heart cells prepared from fetus aged 11.5, 12.5, 13.5 or 14.5 days postcoitum (dpc). The fetal mouse heart was from ICR and 129 strains from which KH2 ES cell line was derived. In the present study, KH2 cells expressing EGFP directed by α-myosin heavy chain gene promoter were co-cultured with fetal heart isolated at different fetal stages. The cardiomyocytes derived from ESC in the co-culture could be identified by their EGFP expression. The EGFP expressing cells which were confirmed to be cardiomyocytes were measured as an indicator of cardiac cell differentiation of ESC. The fetal cardiac cells from 12.5 dpc were more effective in cardiac cell differentiation of ESC than the cells from fetus aged 11.5, 13.5 or 14.5 dpc. Fetal heart from 129 strain which is immunologically compatible with KH2 cells showed more strong cardiac cell differentiation induction activity compared with that from ICR mice. As the results, we demonstrated that fetal hearts at different developmental stages have different cardiac cell differentiation induction activity from ESC implying that fetal heart expresses cardiac cell differentiation induction factor(s).

One of the key safety features of a Prototype Gen-IV Sodium-cooled Fast Reactor (PGSFR) is the adopting of reactor vault cooling system (RVCS). Development of the PGSFR has been ongoing in KAERI (Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute). The assessment of the RVCS must be conducted to ensure decay heat removal capability under severe accident conditions. A down scale model is developed by the Ishii’s method of scaling law, which is based on the three similitude laws, i.e. dynamic, kinematic, and geometric. First, we have considered the basic energy balance between the total heat generation from the decay heat and heat removal from heat transfer, e.g. the natural circulation and the radiation heat transfer. For the reliable design of the experimental facility of RVCS, it would be considered the non-dimensional Richardson number from the momentum equation as the key parameter, which would determine the driven buoyancy flow regrading to the temperature difference of air flow. To finalize the scale analysis, we have compared CFD simulation.

Transgenic Arabidopsis thaliana expressing an anti-rabies monoclonal antibody (mAb), SO57, was obtained using Agrobacterium-mediated floral dip transformation. The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) retention signal Lys-Asp-Glu-Leu (KDEL) was tagged to the C-terminus of the anti-rabies mAb heavy chain to localize the mAb to the ER and enhance its accumulation. When the inaccurately folded proteins accumulated in the ER exceed its storage capacity, it results in stress that can affect plant development and growth. We generated T<sub>1</sub> transformants and obtained homozygous T<sub>3</sub> seeds from transgenic Arabidopsis to investigate the effect of KDEL on plant growth. The germination rate did not significantly differ between plants expressing mAb SO57 without KDEL (SO plant) and mAb SO57 with KDEL (SOK plant). The primary roots of SOK agar media grown plants were slightly shorter than those of SO plants. Transcriptomic analysis showed that expression of all 11 ER stress-related genes were not significantly changed in SOK plants relative to SO plants. SOK plants showed approximately three-fold higher mAb expression levels than those of SO plants. Consequently, the purified mAb amount per unit of SOK plant biomass was approximately three times higher than that of SO plants. A neutralization assay revealed that both plants exhibited efficient rapid fluorescent focus inhibition test values against the rabies virus relative to commercially available human rabies immunoglobulins. KDEL did not upregulate ER stress-related genes; therefore, the enhanced production of the mAb did not affect plant growth. Thus, KDEL fusion is recommended for enhancing mAb production in plant systems.

This study was investigated of additional bubble breaking by screw shape in venturi-type air self-inhalation microbubble generator. In order to determine the influence of the varing flow characteristics (pressure and air flow rate) by screw shape, prior experiment was performed and evaluated. Furthermore, in order to identify the secondary flow caused by screw shape, a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation was performed using the commercial CFD software ANSYS CFX-14.0. The analysis results showed that average rotational velocity in nozzle is inversely proportional to the size and number of microbubbles, acquiring from microbubble generation experiment.

This study was performed to develop a soil loss reduction skill through estimating soil loss from each type of sloping upland by using GEOWEPP model based on GIS Interface. Experimental watershed is located at Yongsan-ri Doam-myeon, Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon-Do and include a very typical sloping upland fields in Alpine area. Dem(5m×5m), Soil type map(1:5,000), land cover map were used as input data for GEOWEPP model. for the making more detailed topology map and land cover map, GPS and Total station survey was done. 6 Water level gauges and 1 Rainfall gauge were installed for the monitoring run off discharge, sediment load and hourly rainfall amount occurred from each event of storm. other weather data was obtained from Daegwallyeong weather station. Ultimately, Estimated results of GEOWEPP simulations for Experimental site was reasonably satisfactory. This study indicated that GEOWEPP model could be applicable to estimate soil losses from Sloping Upland Field.
