The palatine tonsils(tonsils) and pharyngeal tonsils(adenoids) are situated at the entrance of the respiratory and alimentary tracts and represent the first site of contact with a variety of microorganisms and other antigens present in food and inhaled air. They are known as lymphoid organs carrying out the function of cellular and humoral immunity, and so they form a local protective barrier. And the expression of the vascular endothelial adhesion molecules is known to play an important role for the inflammatory reaction in tonsils and adenoids as well as in other inflammatory tissues, by binding with the receptors on the surface of leukocytes. But although several scientific hypotheses on the role of these lympoid tissues have been suggested, their complete functions have remained unknown. The purpose of this study is to present an basic data of the knowledge on the immunologic physiology of the tonsils and adenoids and their role as active immunologic organs that reinforce the mucosal immunity of the entire upper aerodigestive tract. We examined 16 human tonsils and adenoids and the expression of three endothelial adhesion molecules, vascular endothelial adhesion molecule-1(VCAM-1), intracellular adhesion molecule-1(ICAM-1), and E-selection, in tissue sections using immunohistochemistry. We used the inferior turbinate mucosa obtained from 9 patients getting septal surgery as a control group. The expressions of vascular endothelial adhesion molecule-1(VCAM-1) and intracellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) were significantly higher in the tonsils and adenoids. But respectively, there were no significant differences between the tonsils and adenoids. The expression of E-selection was significant higher in the tonsils, but not in the adenoids. We observed that tonsils and adenoids showed significantly higher expressions of vascular endothelial adhesion molecule-1(VCAM-1), intracellular adhesion molecule-1(ICAM-1), and E-selection (in the case of E-selection, only in the tonsils). We propose that these adhesion molecules play an important role for the immunologic reaction by the transendothelial migration of lymphocytes and binding with the receptors on the surface of leukocytes.

Experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE), an animal model of human multiple sclerosis (MS), reflects pathophysiologic steps in MS such as the influence of T cells and antibodies reactive to the myelin sheath, and the cytotoxic effect of cytokines. Galectin-9 (Gal-9) is a member of animal lectins that plays an essential role in various biological functions. The expression of Gal-9 is significantly enhanced in MS lesions; however, its role in autoimmune disease has not been fully elucidated. To identify the role of Gal-9 in EAE, we measured changes in mRNA and protein expression of Gal-9 as EAE progressed. Expression increased with disease progression, with a sharp rise occurring at its peak. Gal-9 immunoreactivity was mainly expressed in astrocytes and microglia of the central nervous system (CNS) and macrophages of spleen. Flow cytometric analysis revealed that $Gal-9^+CD11b^+$ cells were dramatically increased in the spleen at the peak of disease. Increased expression of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-R1 and p-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) was observed in the CNS of EAE mice, suggesting that TNF-R1 and p-JNK might be key regulators contributing to the expression of Gal-9 during EAE. These results suggest that identification of the relationship between Gal-9 and EAE progression is critical for better understanding Gal-9 biology in autoimmune disease.

Nowadays road vehicles have 70~100 ECUs and the complexity are getting higher and higher to provide more safe and convenient services. This growing complexity makes the traditional development methods used no longer sufficient to validate the safety of vehicles. It is generally accepted that a new safety argument needs to show that the system is safe for its intended application. To cope with this issue, the ISO 26262 is under development by ISO TC22/SC3/WG16, which is planned to be released by June 2011. It emphasis on comprehensive safety management and documentation of the safety arguments with its supporting evidence during the whole lifecycle of vehicle in addition to hazard analysis, risk assessment, This paper introduces an automotive development methodology, FOAM (Functional safety Oriented Automotive development Methodology), which fulfils the ISO 26262 developed by ETRI.

현재의 Web Browser는 단순히 HTML 문서를 다루는 기능만 가지고 있어서 메일 작성자가 추가적인 멀티미디어 정보를 결합한 메일을 보낼 수가 없으며 더우기 기존의 메일 시스템인 MailManager나 Pine등은 Web Browsing 기능을 제공하기 않으므로 실질적으로 HTML 문서와 멀티미디어 정보를 실질적으로 통합하여 전송하는 메일시스템은 아직 없다고 할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 관점에서 HTML 문서와 멀티미디어 정보를 함께 결합한 형태로 메일을 작성하고 프리젠테이션할 수 있는 통합적인 메일시스템을 구현하였다. The current Web Browsers can deal with only HTML documents, as a result, they do not support multimedia mail. Furthermore, existing multimedia e-mail systems, including MailManager and Pine do not offer web browsing capability. So. actually there does not so far exist an integrated mail system supporting not only HTML documents but also multimedia information. This paper describes our work for implementation of an integrated mail system to challenge this open problem.
전자빔 증착법으로 증착한 MgO - CaO 박막의 교류형 PDP 보호막 적용을 위한 저전압 특성 연구

Plasma Display Panel(PDP)에서 보호막 물질로 사용중인 MgO의 특성을 개선하기 위하여 본 연구에서는 MgO-CaO 박막을 전자빔 증착법으로 제조하였다. MgO의 최대 증착속도는 1025 Å/min이었으며 CaO 첨가비가 증가함에 따라 증착속도는 감소하였고, XRD 패턴은 전체적 으로 낮은 2θ각 방향으로 이동하였다. MgO에 대한 CaO의 최대 고용도는 0.13이다. 최적전압특정을 나타낸 조성은 Mg 47.1 at%, Ca 1.3 at%, O 51.6 at%이었으며 이때 방전개시전압은 176 V, 메모리마진은 0.5였으며 증착속도는 515 Å/min이었다. MgO-CaO protective layers with various composition were prepared by electron beam evaporation to improve the characteristics of conventional pure MgO thin films as a protective layer for AC-PDP. The maximum deposition rate of pure MgO was 1025 Å/min and decreased with increasing [(CaO / (MgO + CaO)] ratio of evaporation starting materials. From XRD analyses, a trend of peak shift to the lower 2θ angle side was shown as CaO content increased and it stoped when the concentration of CaO was 0.13, which corresponds to the maximum solubility of CaO in MgO. The optimum composition of the protective thin films was Mg 47.1 at%, Ca 1.3 at%, O 51.6 at%, and firing voltage, memory margin and deposition rate of the film with this composition was 176 V, 0.5 and 515 Å/min, respectively.

Female Workers have been an important part of Korean society. Since the 1960s, a great number of young women have moved to large cities and became factory workers. With all physical hardship and low wages, they have chosen to be factory workers to support their families and to escape to cities. Sometimes they protested against abusive treatment by male supervisors and poor working conditions. With all their presence, it is extremely difficult to find female workers in commercial cinema. Korean film makers have hesitated to feature the life of female factory workers. Nevertheless, some film makers have attempted to bring female workers to life in the name of 'realism' and 'history'. This made possible the production of Guro Aryrang(1989) and A Single Spark(1995). This essay attempts to analyze the way these two exceptional films represent female workers. Even though film makers claim to support workers and labor movement, the way they depict female workers is somewhat problematic. They eventually downgrade women workers' intelligence and will, by relying on a certain kind of narrative pattern. By exploring the narrative pattern, this essay will highlight the political limitation of these so called labor films.

IgA nephropathy is the most common primary glomerulonephritis and characterized by deposition of IgA in glomerular mesangial area. Chronic urate nephropathy is characterized by precipitation of uric acid crystals in the collecting ducts and medullary interstitium. We report a case of IgA nephropathy associated with chronic urate nephropathy. A 57 year old man underwent percutaneous renal biopsy for gross hematuria, generalized edema and renal failure. Renal biopsy showed typical findings of IgA nephropathy: increased mesangial matrix, cellular proliferation and positive staining of IgA. In addition, crystalline deposits of uric acid, which is typical of chronic urate nephropathy, were seen in the medullary interstitium.
