        인도네시아 아라푸라해의 하스돔속 Pomadasys(하스돔과 , 농어목)어류 3종의 섭이 구조

        1996년 3월 인도네시아 아라푸라해에서 채집된 하스돔속(Pomadasys) 어류 3종을 대상으로 그들의 악골, 새파 및 인두골을 조사하였다. 전상악골 상행돌기를 두장에 대한 백분율로 환산하면, P. maculatus가 25.4∼27.8%로 가장 크며, P. kaakan은 21.6∼23.3%, P. argyreus는 15.3∼21.0% 범위에 속한다. 전상악골 상행돌기를 전상악골에 대한 백분율로 환산하면, P. argyreus가 54.7∼72.8%로 전상악골보다 상행돌기가 작으며, P. kaakan은 107.8∼114.9%로 상행돌기가 전상악골보다 조금 크고, P. maculatus는 126.7∼136.7%로 상행돌기가 전상악골보다 다소 크다. P. argyreus의 성장 단계별 악골의 형태변화를 조사한 결과, 전상악골 상행돌기에서 증가경향을 보인다. 양턱에는 원뿔니가 띠를 형성하는데, P. argyreus가 가장 조잡한 형태를 보였고, P. kaakan은 다소 발달된 형태를, P. maculatus는 규칙적이고 강한 원뿔니가 조밀하게 나 있다. 인두치는 턱니보다 크고 굵은 원뿔니 및 바늘 모양의 날카로운 이빨을 가지는데, P. argyreus는 P. kaakan과 P. maculatus보다 바늘 모양의 이빨이 더 많다. 새파는 P. maculatus와 P. kaakan에서는 18∼19개로 길이는 짧고 다소 ��은 반면에, P. argyreus는 22∼24개로 길이가 길고 가늘다. Structures of jaw bones, gill rakers and pharyngeal bones of the three Pomadasys species collected from Arafura sea of Indonesia in May 1996 were described and illustrated to compare between species. The percentage of ascending process of premaxillary to head length was 21.6∼23.3% in Pomadasys kaakan, 25.4∼27.8% in P. maculatus and 15.3∼21.0% in P. argyreus. The percentage of ascending process of premaxillary to premaxillary was 54.7∼72.8% in P. argyreus, 107.8∼114.9% in P. kaakan and 126.7∼136.7% in P. maculatus. The ascending process of premaxillary of P. argyreus showed a tendency to increase as fish grow. Each jaw in all three grunters had a row of conical teeth exteriorly, but 1 to 5 rows of niddle like teeth interiorly. Among the three species examined, P. maculatus showed the most developed teeth. Pharyngeal bone, appeared to be stronger than jaw teeth, contained dense needle like teeth in P. argyreus, where as that in P. kaakan and P. maculatus had long and slender teeth exteriorly but thicker interiorly. Gill rakers of P. kaakan and P. maculatus are short, but those of P. argyreus are long.

        This paper describes changes in fishing ground distribution of Korean tuna purse seine fishery operated in the western Pacific Ocean during 1980~1985 based on the data collected from fushing vessels and the effect of helicopter deployment on catch rate of tunas. It was noted that compared to early 1980s the fishing areas of Korean tuna purse seine fishery in recent years extended eastwards to beyond 180° and southwards to the Solomon Islands. The central position of fishing ground moved monthly around 150° E ; westwards during January~April, then eastwards during May~August and westwards again during September~Dcember. It was obvious that the purse seiners deploying a helicopter showed higher CPUE compared with locating fish schools floating to the surface in wider area effectively and thus contribute to higher catch rate of tunas.

        유방암 줄기세포 개념 및 제한점

        Cancer, a leading mortality disease following cardiovascular disease worldwide, has high incidence as one out of every four adults in Korea. It was known to be caused by several reasons including somatic mutation, activation of oncogene and chromosome aneuploidy. Cancer cells show a faster growth rate and have metastatic and heterogeneous cell populations compared to normal cells. Cancer stem cells, the most invested field in cancer biology, is a theory to explain heterogeneous cell populations of cancer cells among several characteristics of cancer cells, which is providing the theoretical background for incidence of cancer and treatment failure by drug resistance. Cancer stem cells initially explain heterogeneous cell populations of cancer cells based on the same markers of normal stem cells in cancer, in which only cancer stem cells showed heterogeneity of cancer cells and tumor initiating ability of leukemia. Based on these results, cancer stem cells were reported in various solid cancers such as breast cancer, liver cancer, and lung cancer. Breast cancer stem cells were first reported in solid cancer which had tumor initiating ability and further identified as anti-cancer drug resistance. There were several identification methods in breast cancer stem cells such as specific surface markers and culture methods. The discovery of cancer stem cells not only explains heterogeneity of cancer cells, but it also provides theoretical background for targeting cancer stem cells to complete elimination of cancer cells. Many institutes have been developing new anticancer drugs targeting cancer stem cells, but there have not been noticeable results yet. Many researchers also reported a necessity for improvement of current concepts and methods of research on cancer stem cells. Herein, we discuss the limitations and the perspectives of breast cancer stem cells based on the current concept and history.

        편도선 적출술 후 통증조절과 정상적인 일상 생활로의복귀시간에 미치는 Myprodol?의 효과

        Background and Objectives:Pain is one of most troublesome discomfort after tonsillectomy. Although various analgesics havebeen administrated for pain control, it has not been effectively controlled until now. This study was performed to evaluate theeffectiveness of Myprodol codein combination analgesics, on the pain control and time to return to normal daily activities.Subjects and Method:Ninety adult patients undergoing tonsillectomy were included in this study. Patients were randomlydivided into a Myprodol?? group (n=30), a NSAID group (n=30) and a codeine group (n=30). They received Myprodol?? NSAIDand codeine, respectively, from the 3rd to 14th postoperative days. On the 1st, 7th and 14th postoperative days, which consistedof rising, breakfast, lunch and supper time, we assessed pain intensity by visual analogue scale. And on the 21st postoperativeday, we investigated time to return to normal daily activities and adverse effects of analgesics. Results:When pain intensity onthe 1st postoperative day was compared, there was no significant difference among 3 groups. On the 7th postoperative day, theMyprodol?? group showed significant pain decrease compared with the codeine group but did not with the NSAID group. On the14th postoperative day, the Myprodol group showed significant pain decrease compared with both NSAID and codeine groups.The Myprodol group also showed shortened recovery time compared with the others and there was no significant adverse effectsin any of the groups. Conclusion:We find that Myprodol?? is an effective and safe oral analgesics for pain control and shortenstime to return to normal daily activities.

        생쥐 경부림프절에서 면역 B 림프구의 특성

        Background and Objectives:To investigate the characteristic features of B cels in murine cervical lymph node. Animal ex-periment. Subjects and Method:We obtained cervical lymph node of mice. Isolated B cels were cultured in media after the cytometry. Imunoglobulin secreted into the culture supernatants was evaluated by enzyme-linked immunosorbent asay. B20+ cells cultured for 5 days with media alone, or LPS. Entering into S phase in response to stimuli was measured by proliferative assay. Results:Identifying phenotypic characteristics for B cels of lymph node include CD5low, CD23high, CD43low, B20high, Ig (sIg)Mlow, sIgDhigh, CD80 ( )low, CD86 (B7.2)low, and Syndecam-1low. Spontaneous Imunoglobulin production did not occur in lymphoid B cels. When stimulation, IgM secretion was increased more than that of IgA and IgG. Lipopolysaccharide is a most powerful stimulus which secreted immunoglobulin. In thymidine incorporation, B cels were entered actively S phase after 48hours stimulation. CD40 plus anti-CD8 stimulated B cels to produce substantial thymidine incorporation that was much Conclusion:The B cels in cervical lymph node are conventional B cels (B2). Lymph node B cells secreted mainly IgM at stimuli and cell proliferation was activated at 48 hours of stimulation.

        다발성 뇌신경 마비와 무균성 뇌수막염을 동반한 이성대상포진 2예

        Herpes zoster oticus or Ramsay Hunt syndrome occurs in about one percent of all cases of herpes zoster and represents 12 percent of all facial palsies. The typical clinical presentation includes otalgia, facial palsy, herpetic lesions of the auricle and external auditory canal, but is frequently accompanied with sensorineural hearing loss, vertigo and tinnitus. Rarely, it may be associated with the involvement of V, VI, IX, X, XI and XII cranial nerves, aseptic meningitis, and the syndrome of inappropriate secretion of antidiuretic hormone (SIADH). With a review of literature, we report two cases. The first case is a 64-year-old male with Ramsay Hunt syndrome complicated with cranial nerve VIII palsy and aseptic meningitis. The second case is a 30-year-old female with Ramsay Hunt syndrome complicated with the cranial nerve III, IV, V, VI and VIII palsies and aseptic meningitis. (Korean J Otolaryngol 2005;48:398-401)
