본 연구에서 PDE가 RAW264.7 대식세포에 이어 BALB/c 마우스로부터 유래한 복강 대식세포에서 NO 생성을 증가시켰으며, DEX에 의해 억제된 비장세포 증식능과 사이토카인 생성도 회복시킴으로써 전임상 모델 수준에서도 면역증강 효능이 있음을 확인하였다. 따라서 본 연구 결과는 PDE가 면역증강 기능성 식품 소재가 될 수 있는 근거를 제공한다. 향후 PDE의 지표성분의 동정 및 정량화 등 추가 연구가 진행된다면, PDE를 건강기능식품으로 개발하는 데 좋은 정보가 될 것으로 생각된다. COVID-19, SARS, and MERS were declared pandemic and are all infectious diseases caused by a virus. The innate immune system is important for preventing such infectious diseases. Therefore, this study examined the effects of Pinus densiflora pollen extract (PDE) on improving innate immunity. Pinus densiflora pollen is a natural micronutrient reservoir rich in various amino acids, vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and flavonoids required by the body. This study used splenocytes and peritoneal macrophages derived from BALB/c mice. PDE enhanced nitric oxide production in peritoneal macrophages. PDE alleviated dexamethasone (DEX)-induced reduction of splenocyte proliferation in concanavalin A (Con A)-stimulated splenocytes. PDE alleviated the DEX-induced reduction of interleukin-6, interleukin-1β, and tumor necrosis factor-α production in Con A-stimulated splenocytes. These results indicate that PDE can be a health-functional food material that improves immunity.

Background/Aims: Chronic enteropathy associated with SLCO2A1 gene (CEAS), an inherited disease characterized by nonspecific intestinal ulcers, has emerged in the Japanese population via loss-of-function mutations in the SLCO2A1 gene. We aimed to investigate the clinical and genetic characteristics of Korean patients diagnosed with CEAS. Methods: From July 2018 to July 2021, we performed Sanger sequencing of the SLCO2A1 gene in 46 patients with chronic intestinal ulcers. CEAS was confirmed based on known SLCO2A1 mutations. We summarized the clinical characteristics of patients with confirmed CEAS. Results: Fourteen out of 46 patients (30.4%) had genetically confirmed CEAS, and two SLCO2A1 variants were detected (splicing site variant c.940+1G>A and nonsense mutation [p.R603X] in SLCO2A1). Twelve patients (85.7%) were females and the median age at diagnosis of CEAS was 44.5 years. All patients presented with abdominal pain, and 13 patients (92.9%) presented with anemia (median hemoglobin, 9.6 g/dL). Ten patients (71.4%) had hypoalbuminemia (median, 2.7 g/dL). The most commonly involved site was the ileum (13/14, 92.9%). Manifestations of primary hypertrophic osteoarthropathy (PHO), such as digital clubbing, pachydermia, and periostosis were observed in five patients (28.6%) and two male patients and one female patient satisfied all major PHO diagnostic criteria. Conclusions: The clinical and genetic characteristics of Korean patients with confirmed CEAS were similar to those reported in the literature. CEAS should be considered in the differential diagnosis for patients with unexplained chronic nonspecific ulcers of the small intestine. (Gut Liver 2022;16:942-951)

Colorectal cancer during pregnancy is extremely rare. The diagnosis is frequently delayed because symptoms may be confused with those of normal pregnancy. In 1S35, Cruvethier reported the first case of colorectal carcinoma complicating pregnancy. Since then, about 200 or more cases were reported in western countries, but no case of these has been reported in Korea. We experienced a 29-year-old pregnant woman concomitantly developed an adenocarcinoma of the right colon with intestinal obstruction at 12 weeks of gestation. We performed right hemicolectomy at 14 weeks of gestation and therapeutic abortion at 17 weeks of gestation. We report a case of colon cancer during pregnancy with a review of the diagnosis and management. (Korean J Gastroenterol 1996; 28:457 - 461)

<P>MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a class of noncoding small RNAs that act as negative regulators of gene expression. To identify miRNAs that may regulate human cell immortalization and carcinogenesis, we performed comparative miRNA array profiling of human normal and SV40-T antigen immortalized cells. We found that miR-296 was upregulated in immortalized cells that also had activation of telomerase. By an independent experiment on genomic analysis of cancer cells we found that chromosome region (20q13.32), where miR-296 is located, was amplified in 28/36 cell lines, and most of these showed enriched miR-296 expression. Overexpression of miR-296 in human cancer cells, with and without telomerase activity, had no effect on their telomerase function. Instead, it suppressed p53 function that is frequently downregulated during human cell immortalization and carcinogenesis. By monitoring the activity of a luciferase reporter connected to p53 and p21<SUP>WAF1</SUP> (p21) untranslated regions (UTRs), we demonstrate that miR-296 interacts with the p21-3′UTR, and the Hu binding site of p21-3′UTR was identified as a potential miR-296 target site. We demonstrate for the first time that miR-296 is frequently upregulated during immortalization of human cells and contributes to carcinogenesis by downregulation of p53-p21<SUP>WAF1</SUP> pathway.</P>

The line widths and spin-lattice relaxation times of protons in $[N(C_2H_5)_4]_2CoCl_4$ and $[N(CH_3)_4]_2CoCl_4$ single crystals were investigated in the temperature range 160-400 K. The temperature dependences of the spin-lattice relaxation times are attributed to the molecular motions of the ethyl and methyl groups in the $[N(C_2H_5)_4]^+$ and $[N(CH_3)_4]^+$ ions respectively. The NMR line widths indicate that the ethyl groups in $[N(C_2H_5)_4]_2CoCl_4$ have one more degree of freedom than the methyl groups in $[N(CH_3)_4]_2CoCl_4$. The experimental results are interpreted in terms of the reorientations of the methyl and ethyl groups.
TGF-β1 Expression by Proliferated Keratinocytes in the Skin of E-Irradiated Mice

우리는 방사선피부염 동물 모델을 확립하여, 이차 면역 기관에서의 면역 세포 비율 변화를 관찰하였다. 또한, 방사선 조사에 의한 병소에서 transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1)과 interlukin-10 (IL-10)의 발현을 증가시킨 세포를 분석하였다. Hairless-1 (HR-1) 쥐의 posterior dorsal 부위에 6 일간 매일 10 Gy 씩 electron (E)-ray를 국부 조사하여 방사선피부염 모델을 만들었다. FACS를 이용하여 면역 세포 비율의 변화를 분석한 결과 비장과 림프절에 존재하는 항원제시세포와 T 세포 및 B 세포들의 비율이 E-irradiation에 의해 영향을 받았다. 피부에서 세포 특이적인 마커와 사이토카인들의 발현 양상은 면역형광염색법으로 확인하였다. 방사선 조사 후, TGF-β1과 interlukin-17 (IL-17)은 regulatory T 세포(Treg)보다 keratin-14 (K-14)를 발현하는 진피의 끝부분에서 높게 발현되었다. Interlukin-10 (IL-10)는 Treg 뿐만 아니라 T helper 17 (Th17) 세포, dendritic 세포, macrophage 중 어느것과도 같은 위치에서 검출되지 않았다. 우리의 데이터는 방사선피부염 동물 모델의 병소 안에서, TGF-β1이 증식된 keratinocyte에 과발현된다는 것을 나타낸다. In this study, we established a radiodermatitis animal model and investigated the change in immune cell proportions in the secondary lymphoid organs. The cells responsible for the increased transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1) and interleukin-10 (IL-10) production in the lesions following irradiation were also investigated. The radiodermatitis model was constructed by locally exposing the posterior dorsal region of hairless-1 (HR-1) mice to 10 Gy electron (E)-ray/day for six consecutive days. The change in immune cell proportions was analyzed by FACS. Immunohistochemistry was carried out to detect the expression of cytokines and cell-specific markers in the skin. The proportions of antigen-presenting cells, T cells, and B cells in the lymph nodes and spleen were affected by E-irradiation. After irradiation, TGF-β1 and IL-17 were co-localized in the papillary region of the dermis with keratin-14 (K-14)-positive cells rather than with regulatory T cells (Treg). IL-10 was not co-stained with Treg, T helper 17 (Th17) cells, dendritic cells, or macrophages. Our data indicate that TGF-β1 is over-expressed mainly by proliferated keratinocytes in the lesions of a radiodermatitis animal model.
Case Report : Carvenous lymphangioma of the vulva

Lymphangioma is a rare proliferation of the lymphatic system which is classified as either lymphangioma circumscription or carvenous lymphangioma. The involvement of the vulva is very rare and only a small number of case reports have been made on carvenous lymphangioma of the vulva. We herein report a case of 20-year-old unmarried girl presented with gradually expanding and painless tumor of the left labium majus. The mass was removed surgically and pathology confirmed as carvenous lymphangioma, with no recurrences to date.
