Geometry is an excellent source to develop the power of intuition and logic and to give an experience of analytic thinking. This research realizes the importance of geometry in elementary school mathematics curriculum and focuses on the introduction of learning materials according to van Hiel model of the development of geometric thought.

New instructional emphases are needed to meet the goals of current mathematics programs. There is strong evidence that instruction driven by the goal of masterring algorithmic procedures has not been effective. Large amounts of instructional time are required to develop proficiency with computational skills. Still, students lack the understanding necessary to apply their learning in problem-solving situations. Current objectives for computation need to be broadened: helping students learn to estimate, compute mentally, and use a calculator, as well as to select appropriate approaches for problem situations, should become integral to inseuction. The multiplication of whole numbers is a topic basic to the mathematics curriculum in most of the elementary grades. The development of understanding, insight, and competence is essential to children's learning about multiplication. The goal of this paper is to show the affactive ways to build student understand about multiplication.

The purpose of this study was to investigate of perceptions of prospective elementary school teachers about concentration of solution. For this study, 139 prospective elementary school teachers were selected from Chonju National University of Education. For the most part of prospective elementary school teachers well understand the meaning of concentration of solution, however somewhat they were not clear conception for difffrence between a mixture and a chemical compound.

1.서론 국민학교 4학년 1학기 자연교과서의 '혼합물의 분리' 단원에서 다루어지고 있는 내용은 철가루와 모래, 콩과 좁쌀, 그리고 물과 기름둥과 같은 혼합물의 분리에 관한 것들로서 이들 대부분은 일상생활에서 이미 경험했거나 유사경험을 통하여 그 개념을 이해하는데 그다지 어려움이 없다. 끓는점 차이를 이용한 분리방법은 화학공장둥에서와 같이 공업적으로 그 옹용예가 가장 많고 또한 상급학년의 화학관련 교과서및 실험등에서 큰 비중을 차지하고 있는 분야이나 이에 대한 구체적인 실험예가 없이 단원의 마지막 부분에 그림으로만 표시되어 있다1. 끓는점 차이를 이용한 분리는 주로 액체와 액체로 이루어진 혼합물에서 이용하는 방법으로서, 국민학생이 그 개념을 이해하기에는 어려움이 있다. 이는 앞서 언급한 방 We developed a fractional distillation courseware for the elementary school natural science course of the fourth-grade. This program is useful for studing the process of separation and its concept, which was possible by expressing each component of mixture in different shape and color.

The creation-evolution issued a contentious battle in school education.This study was surveyed on preservice students' idea on creation and evolution in science curriculum.Samples consisted of 150 preservice students in Chonju National University of Education.One instrument was used: a Likert scale type.The instrument had 50 items. As a result, many students suggested that Korean science curriculum developer keep in mind on reflecting creation as well as evolution In the future science curriculum.

The purpose of this study was to investigate about students' understanding of concepts related to photosynthesis in elemelltary school.The population of the study consisted of 122 fifth grade and 117 sixth grade from elementary school in Chonju.Data were obtained by the questionaire consisted of 12 questions. The results of the study showed that students in 5 · 6th grades had various misconceptions on concepts related to photosynthesis, that is, the use of light by plants, the functions of plant leaves, photosynthetic products and requirements of elements for photosynthesis.Especially there are many students who don't know the meaning of photosynthesis exactly. It was also showed that students concepts on photosynthesis develops as their grade levels proceed.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the direction and characteristic of geometry learning -instruction in 7th mathematics curriculum. The results of this study are followings. First, geometry in this new curriculum emphasizes to develop spatial sense. Second, it concentrates on learning-instruction applying to mathematical reasoning, mathematical communication, problem solving. As a result, It emphasize o develop the mathematical power which will be the most important basic ability in the coming society. Third, it Introduce geometrical concept and ideas as symmetry from informal setting to formal one. Finally, geometry in this new curriculum emphasizes mathematical connection.

Successful teachers of problem solving recognize that students must be exposed to a wide variety of problem situatrion and students must be taught to monitor their work throughout the various phases of problem solving. Our 7th mathematics curriculum considers all this aspect of problem solving. But the development of problem solving abilities of our students depends on not the curriculum but the teacher.

Presevice students' conceptions on the telescope were Investigated. Samples consisted of 63 students in Chonju National University of Education. The open-ended written questionnaire were used. The result were that students' naive theories on the telescope were numerous. For example, 87% students held the idea that when someone salts a object through the telescope, the object could be seen larger. This study was also discussed the teaching strategies to overcome these naive theories on the telescope.

The CAI (Computer Aided Instruction) program about the Energy was developed by using the multimedia authoring tool of PASS 2000 (Professional Authoring System for School in 2000) The contents involved the texts, images, animations, sounds, and movies concerned with the Energy. Above materials were reconstructed to be enhanced the efficiency of learning and for children to take interest in this title. The CAI program is useful for individually learning and the feedback.Also, the virtual experiments are executed in the cyber space instead of actually carrying out the difficult experiments with danger.
