      • Clearly Canadaian: How Canada’s Unique Diversity Education Structure can Represent an Ideal Learning Environment for South Korean Students

        Globalization has made the national borders less significant than in the past. Continuous efforts to enhance diversity education are necessary to prepare for the future. Korea, which has experienced rapid and compressed industrialization, attracts tourists from all over the world and many migrant workers from developing countries. However, it seems that Koreans are not yet prepared to welcome these people due to the low levels of English proficiencyprejudice towards foreigners. Canada is known to have a well-established diversity education system. Korean students who are in need of English education can greatly benefit from Canada’s learning environment. This paper explores issues in Korean and Canadian education in order to explore whether Canada can offer Korean students a suitable venue for study abroad opportunities. Considering Canada’s many advantages, including its multicultural atmosphere, low cost of education, and multilingual educational history, this paper found that Korean students Clearly Canadian: How Canada’s Unique Diversity Education Structure can Represent an Ideal Learning Environment for South Korean Students 81 would greatly benefit from choosing to study abroad in Canada. Canada could also take advantage from accepting Korean students to study overseas by further diversifying their classrooms with Korean students, and boosting its economy through an increase in Korean investment into Canadian education. Therefore, Canada’s efforts to enhance exchange programs are needed. These can be accomplished by lowering costs, improving its transitional programs, and more advertising on Korean websites.

        역전파 알고리즘을 응용한 인구통계학 기반 서울 주택가격 변화 예측 연구

        본 논문에서는 대한민국의 연도별 출생아 수 데이터와 머신러닝 알고리즘을 활용하여 서울 주택가격 변화를 예측하였다. 더 정확한 예측을 위하여 머신러닝 알고리즘 중에서 역전파 (Back propagation) 알고리즘을 사용하였으며, 가상 GDP 성장률과 예상 수명 연장률이 고려되었다. 예측 결과, 서울 주택가격은 2025년까지 꾸준히 증가하며, 2025년부터 2033년까지는 큰 상승없이 유지가 되다가 2033년 이후부터는 다시 하락할 것으로 예측되었다. 결국, 2040년경에는 2020년 현재의 주택가격과 비슷한 수준으로 돌아올 것이 전망되었는데, 이는 저출산 영향으로 앞으로 만 25세 이상의 인구수가 점차 감소하여 주택의 수요 또한 감소할 것이기 때문으로 해석되었다. In this paper, housing price in Seoul of Republic of Korea was predicted by utilizing annual birthrate data in Republic of Korea and machine learning algorithm. In order to conduct more accurate prediction, a back propagation algorithm was used among machine learning algorithms, and virtual GDP growth rate and expected life extension rate were considered. As a result, house price in Seoul is expected to increase steadily until 2025, and remain almost unchanged from 2025 to 2033, and then fall again after 2033. Eventually, it was expected that the house price of Seoul will return to a level similar to current house price of Seoul. This result was due to decrease in the number of people over the age of 25 from low fertility phenomenon, which results in decrease in demand for house.

      • Fabrication of copper nanoparticles in a thick polyimide film cured by rapid thermal annealing.

        <P>We investigated the imidization of a polyimide (PI) and the formation of Cu nanoparticles in a PI film by curinga precursor of PI (polyamic acid (PAA) dissolved in n-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone) in a reducing atmosphere in the rapid thermal annealing (RTA) system. A Cu film was deposited onto the SiO2/Si substrate, and the PAA was spin-coated onto the Cu film. After the PAA reacted with the Cu film, soft-baking was performed to evaporate the solvent. Finally, the PAA was imidized to PI at 450 degrees C by curing in a reducing atmosphere with the RTA. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy showed that the PAA was successfully imidized by the RTA. X-ray diffraction patterns revealed that Cu nanoparticles formed by RTA curing at 450 degrees C for 5 minutes in a reducing atmosphere, and transmission electron microscopy showed that Cu nanoparticles about 6.5 nm in size were uniformly dispersed in the PI film. Curing by RTA is an attractive method because it takes only a few minutes.</P>

        In order to develop anti-cancer drug with strong anti-cancer activity without side effects, we extracted by various steps from the mixture of Coptis chinensis (CO) and Croton tiglium L (CR), and evaluated it by measuring the cytotoxicity against various tumor cell-lines including normal spleen and thymus cells. Five murine cell lines including leukemia L-1210 and 9 human tumor cell lines including leukemia HL-60 derived from various organs such as stomach, liver, lung, colon and breast cancers were used. The cytotoxicity were measured by the well-known colorimetric [3-(4,5dimethylthiazol-2-yl)2,5 -diphenyltetrazolium bromice] (MTT) assay. The extract (CP-2) from the mixture of CO and CR were very effective to all tumor cell lines with different degrees but showed no significant effects on normal spleen and thymus cells. Specially stomach SNU-1, lymphoma Raji and colon SNU-C2A compared with others showed very strong cytotoxicity; 60? 80 %, 55 ?96 % and 40~80 %, within the range of 10 ~45 ?g/ ml, 10 ~90 ?g/ml and 55 ~96 ?g/ml of the extract (CP-2) respectively. The range of ID50 values were from 4.4 ?g/ml in lymphoma Raji to 350 ?g/mi in liver HEP-3B, which were relatively low compared with other natural crude extracts reported elsewhere.

        방사선지표식물 자주달개비를 이용한 환경방사선 감시

        Tradescantia in BNL 4430 is a hybrid clone heterozygous for its flower color and extremely sensitive to ionizing radiation. Such a fact made people around nuclear power plants be interested in Tradescantia, a botanical tester of radiation effects. The pur pose of this study is to provide the botanical supplement to physical radiation monitor systems and also to ascertain biological safety regarding environmental radiation around nuclear power plants. Flowers collected periodically from three Tradescantia gardens (in Youngkwang NPP Jeonsigwan. City office and KAERI. respectively) were scored for pink mutation frequencies in stamen hair cells. Pink mutation frequencies in the study area were in the range of 0.82∼1.14. which were slightly lower than the annual mean background mutation frequency of 1.16. Statistical analysis of scoring data showed that there was no significant difference between three Tradescantia gardens (p>0.05). From the result, the environmental radiation level around Youngkwang nuclear power plant can be said biologically safe. Further study for verifying safety will make a role for improving public acceptance related to the peaceful use of nuclear power.
