        화학공장의 중대사고에 따른 예상손실액 산정 및 대책연구

        This study evaluated the effect of the accidents caused by fire, explosion, and toxic gas release by using SuperChems, quantitative hazardous material release modeling software, which estimates the potential area of damage. According to the loss severity, the appropriate risk management principles can be applied. Risk management is divided into the two methods which are risk control and risk financing. Risk control includes risk avoidance, risk spreading and diversification, and risk reduction. Risk financing includes risk retention and risk transfer. The results of this study can help the related company determine the appropriate reserve fund and the amount to be insured against the third party losses according to the estimated loss severity.

        Hypolipidemic Effect of a Blue-Green Alga (Nostoc commune) Is Attributed to Its Nonlipid Fraction by Decreasing Intestinal Cholesterol Absorption in C57BL/6J Mice

        We previously demonstrated that Nostoc commune var. sphaeroids Ku¨tzing (NO), a blue-green alga (BGA), exerts a hypolipidemic effect in vivo and its lipid extract regulates the expression of genes involved in cholesterol and lipid metabolism in vitro. The objective of this study was to investigate whether the hypolipidemic effect of NO is attributed to an algal lipid or a delipidated fraction in vivo compared with Spirulina platensis (SP). Male C57BL/6J mice were fed an AIN-93M diet containing 2.5% or 5% of BGA (w/w) or a lipid extract equivalent to 5% of BGA for 4 weeks to measure plasma and liver lipids, hepatic gene expression, intestinal cholesterol absorption, and fecal sterol excretion. Plasma total cholesterol (TC) was significantly lower in 2.5% and 5% NO-fed groups, while plasma triglyceride (TG) levels were decreased in the 5% NO group compared with controls. However, neither NO organic extract (NOE) nor SP-fed groups altered plasma lipids. Hepatic mRNA levels of sterol regulatory element-binding protein 2, 3-hydroxy-3-methyl-glutaryl-CoA reductase (HMGR), carnitine palmitoyltransferase-1α, and acyl-CoA oxidase 1 were induced in 5% NO-fed mice, while there were no significant changes in hepatic lipogenic gene expression between groups. NO, but not NOE and SP groups, significantly decreased intestinal cholesterol absorption. When HepG2 cells and primary mouse hepatocytes were incubated with NOE and SP organic extract (SPE), there were marked decreases in protein levels of HMGR, low-density lipoprotein receptor, and fatty acid synthase. In conclusion, the nonlipid fraction of NO exerts TC and TG-lowering effects primarily by inhibiting intestinal cholesterol absorption and by increasing hepatic fatty acid oxidation, respectively.

        Effective Combination of Agrobacterium tumefaciens Strains and Ti Plasmids for the Construction of Plant Vector System

        The purpose of this study is to obtain the most efficient combination of Agrobacterium tumefaciens strains and Ti plasmids for the construction of dicotyledonous plant vector system. Ti plasmid-curing A. tumefaciens A136 and KU12C3 were transformed with four kinds of Ti plasmids, pTiBo542, pTiA6, pTiKU12 and pTiAch5, respectively. The stems of 28 species of dicotyledonous plants were then inoculated with these transformants and examined for crown gall formation. The different combination of A. tumefaciens strains and Ti plasmids showed quite a difference in terms of the crown gall formation. Agrobacterium strains A136 and KU12C3 have a same plant host range in case that both strains barbour the same kind of Ti plasmid, pTiBo542 or pTiAch5. However, the above-mentioned both strains have quite different host range in the event of containing the same Ti plasmid, pTiKU12 or pTiA6. In case that KU12C3 contains pTiA6 or pTiKU12, this strain has a wider plant host range than A136. The plant host range of pTiBo542 is the widest, followed by pTiA6, pTiKU12 and pTiAch5. Twelve plants among 28 tested plants are not transformed by any virulent Agrobacterium strains used in this study. In conclusion, A. tumefaciens KU12C3 and A136 harboring pTiBo542 showed the widest host range for transforming dicotyledonous plants. Also, it was acertained that the host range of Ti plasmids is affected by chromosomal level.

        Wittgenstein's Indirect Communication: Educational Implications

        The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate the educational implications implied on the indirect communication of Wittgenstein by investigating the common and different factors between Kierkegaard's indirect communication and Wittgenstein's one. It is often said that Wittgenstein and Kierkegaard are seemed to be engaged in indirect communication in their writings, but neglected the fact that Wittgenstein uses 'what can be said' while Kierkegaard uses 'what cannot be said' in each indirect communications. It leads to the differences between education and religion, and this paper focuses on the educational implications by pointing out the coherence throughout the early and late philosophies of Wittgenstein in light of indirect communication; education can be defined to be an activity to establish 'what cannot be said' by saying 'what can be said'.

        Holographic tomography: hardware and software solutions for 3D quantitative biomedical imaging (Invited paper)

        In this paper, we demonstrate the current concepts in holographic tomography (HT) realized within limited angular range with illumination scanning. The presented solutions are based on the work performed at Warsaw University of Technology in Poland and put in context with the state of the art in HT. Along with the theoretical framework for HT, the optimum reconstruction process and data visualization are described in detail. The paper is concluded with the description of hardware configuration and the visualization of tomographic reconstruction, which is calculated using a provided processing path.

        The effects of the thermal treatment of activated carbon on the phenols adsorption

        The adsorptive properties of thermally treated activated carbon at 1,500 and 1,800 oC were investigated. The adsorption kinetics and adsorption efficiency of phenol, 4-chlorophenol and 2,4-dichlorophenol from aqueous solutions were examined. The adsorption kinetic data were analyzed using the pseudo-first and pseudo-second order models, while the equilibrium adsorption data were described by the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms. The adsorption rate and efficiency increased in the order: phenol<4-chlorophenol<2,4-dichlorophenol. The activated carbons were also used for the modification of the carbon paste electrodes for the detection of the phenols based on the differential pulse voltammetry. Compared to the non-modified electrode, all the new paste electrodes showed a significantly greater sensitivity for the detection of the phenols. The signal response was closely related to the porosity of the materials used, and increased with an increase in the adsorption ability and the specific surface area of the modifiers.

        Lateral-torsional buckling steel beams with simultaneously tapered flanges and web

        A procedure for critical buckling moment of a tapered beam is proposed with the application of potential energy calculations using Ritz method. Respective solution allows to obtain critical moments initiating lateral buckling of the simply supported, modestly tapered steel I-beams. In particular, lateral-torsional buckling of beams with simultaneously tapered flanges and the web are considered. Detailed, numerical, parametric analyses are carried out. Typical engineering, uniformly distributed design loads are considered for three cases of the load, applied to the top flange, shear centre, as well as to the bottom flange. In addition simply supported beam under gradient moments is investigated. The parametric analysis of simultaneously tapered beam flanges and the web, demonstrates that tapering of flanges influences much more the critical moments than tapering of the web.

        HYBRID SHAPE OPTIMIZATION OF AUTOMOTIVE SPRING SEAT

        Work presented in this article concerns an industrial example of a mass optimization problem, performed on automotive suspension components. Due to the fact, that the considered element, i.e. spring seat is a part of the vehicle suspension module, analyses are performed on the shock absorber assembly level with the mutual interaction of each body. To solve constrained optimization task, a combination of genetic and gradient-based algorithms are used, involving nonlinear static strength problem, represented by finite element method analysis. Parametric representation of considered component geometry is used, incorporating manufacturing restrictions and design assembly requirements. The final, optimized form of the spring seat is then compared with its initial shape, i.e. “working space”, especially under constraints fulfillment, which are specified by the customer. Performance comparison of used methods (or combination of such) is the aim of this paper, focusing on practical aspects of work, i.e. final mass decrease, number of function calls, or design space exploration capabilities. The optimization method presented hereby is universal and can be adapted to many fields of industry, wherever efficient mass reduction must be achieved incorporating the feasibility of the component. The hybrid optimization approach presented in the paper allows effective mass reduction and works well for multimodal objective functions typically found in industrial applications.

        Design Overstrength of Steel Eccentrically Braced Frames

        The paper reports an analytical study on the design overstrength of steel eccentrically braced frames (EBFs). The study aimed at examining the influence of geometrical factors and seismic hazard on the design overstrength of EBFs. Pursuant to this goal a computer program which facilitates EBF designs was developed. The algorithm of the program adopts the lightest uniform frame design and library of link-beam-brace sub-assemblages concepts. The design output from the program was compared with published solutions and the results indicate that the algorithm developed as a part of this study is capable of providing lighter framing solutions. A parametric study was conducted using the developed computer program. The results indicate that the frames considered in this study have on average higher overstrength values when compared with the codified value even without considering potential increases due to material overstrength and strain hardening. The design overstrength was found to be influenced primarily by the link length to bay width ratio and the bay width, and secondarily by the building height and seismic hazard level.

      • Transcultural European Law Clinics for Persons Suspected or Accused of Crime : Challenges and Solutions

        This article focuses on the implementation of a new transcultural law clinic that will offer supervised translating/interpreting services to persons who do not speak the language and are suspected or accused of a crime. The clinic was implemented as part of the international project ‘TransLaw. Exploring Legal Interpreting Service Paths and Transcultural Law Clinics for persons suspected or accused of a crime’ (2018-2019). The article covers the implementation and piloting phase of the Transcultural Law Clinic at the University of Maribor in Slovenia, which involved the cooperation of translating and interpreting students with law students. The empirical part of this research focuses on the importance of self-reflective and observational techniques and how they may be incorporated into the practice of interpreting and law students. To collect the data, we used observation logs, which helped students gain a better understanding of the learning and knowledge they had acquired during the observational process (Jarvis, 2001). Observation logs were structured and developed to use during: (a) the observation of interpreted trials and (b) translating workshops in which translating/interpreting students and law students worked together. The results of this study support key suggestions in the literature: that interpreters should be motivated to improve their expertise by improving their skills through self-reflective practices and via supports such as ongoing mentorship, training and professional development. The results also support our argument that translating and interpreting students can be successfully trained together with law students and that both groups can and should be motivated to improve their skills through self-reflective practices.
