In this study, we tested the influences of several κ opioid ligands on the [3H]diprenorphine binding in rat and guinea pig cortex membrane preparations. Using paradigm to block μ and δ opioid receptors with DAMGO(1μM) and DPDPE(1μM), [3H]diprenorphine labeled κ sites. Competition analysis in both rat and guinea pig cortex has shown a single population of [3H]diprenorphine binding site with different Kd values, respectively. There is a significant difference in Ki values of (-) WIN44441 and (+)WIN44441 in both rat and guinea pig cortex. Bremazocine, (-)ethylketocyclazocine, (-)cyclazocine, nor-binaltorphimine effectively inhibited the [3H]diprenorphine binding with different Ki values in rat and guinea pig cortex. U-69,593, U-50,488H and dynorphine-A (1-8) did not inhibit the [3H]diprenorphine binding in rat but in guinea pig cortex. Nor-binaltorphimine was a ligand discriminate the κ1, and κ2 receptor most effectively. We, also, examined the influence of Na ion and GTPγS, a nonhydrolyzable guanine nucleotide analog, on the inhibition of [3H]diprenorphine binding by diprenorphine, (-)ethyl-ketocyclazocine, U-69,593 and bremazocine. By the replacement of NaCl with N-methy-D-glucamine or addition of GTPγS, Ki values of diprenorpnine were not changed and that of ethylketocyclazocine were changed significantly in both rat and guinea pig cortex. The Ki value of bremazocine was decreased by removal of Na ion, and increased by GTPγS, however, was not changed by any one of either. These results suggest that there are 2 kinds of subtypes of κ opioid receptor, κ1, and κ2, showing different Ki values for various κ opioid ligands, also, bremazocine possess the antagonistic property at κ2 site which is dominant subtype of K receptor in rat cortex.

MOTIE(Ministry of Trade, Industry & Energy) aims to build a Southwest 2.5GW offshore wind farm. The job will require help from the government, electric operator and manufacturers. The domestic offshore wind farm market will boost global competitiveness up until 2019. This research analyzes the economic impact of the offshore wind farm project. The local acceptance in terms of production, employment and value added are expected to be maximized. According to the quantitative analysis using the extended 2010 input-output table, we calculated that the production inducement impact will reach up to 13.5 trillion won. 11.07 trillion won from the offshore wind farm industry and 2.4 trillion won from others. Furthermore the impact of increase in employment is expected to reach 22,662. 9,883 will be from the wind farm industry and 12,779 from other fields. The impact is expected to be greater especially during the middle of the jobless growth period, Lastly, the value added inducement impact is expected to be 4.24 trillion won. Regarding economic impacts, strategies required for increasing local acceptance are as follows. First, in order to diversify and sophisticate the primary industry into a secondary or tertiary one, we need to develop the nearby wind farm site into a wind farm thema park. Attracting the wind farm production, installing and maintaining/repairing firms and establishing an experience center for K-12 students by providing them an education center for offshore wind energy can be specific means of development. Also, during the operation and after the destruction of facilities, the government should lay out the sub-structure of the wind farm as a sea ranch. Thirdly, the level of local acceptance regarding the community ownership of the offshore wind farm should increase to those of Middelgrunden(Denmark) and Navarra(Spain). Considering the economic condition of Buan, Gochang and the Yeonggwang area, community ownership is one of best solutions for the increment of local tax revenue. At last, considering the supports system of areas adjacent to power plants and ``Partnership management with local community’, the offshore wind farm operator may need to provide assistant policies to nearby communities. The policies should be based on Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR) such as education scholarship projects, local economy cooperative projects, sports/culture projects.

Investigation of barrier characteristics in the hyaloid‐retinal vessel of zebrafish
Hyoung Kim, Jin,Suk Yu, Young,Kim, Kyu‐,Won,Hun Kim, Jeong Wiley Subscription Services, Inc., A Wiley Company 2011 Journal of neuroscience research Vol.89 No.6
<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>The blood–retinal barrier (BRB) is essential for the physiological integrity of the retinal vessels. In particular, ocular pathologies of retinal neovascularization could be causally related to the BRB breakdown. Zebrafish have emerged as an advantageous model for studying vascular development and characteristics. Here we investigated for the first time the barrier characteristics of the hyaloid‐retinal vessel using <I>fli1‐EGFP</I> transgenic zebrafish. By 7 dpf, the hyaloid‐retinal vessel was formed between lens and retina, where intercellular junctional complexes were already present between endothelial cells. Interestingly, NG‐2 expression, but not GFAP, was colocalized with EGFP‐positive cells of the hyaloid‐retinal vessel. Among endothelial tight junction proteins, claudin‐5 was expressed on EGFP‐positive cells of the hyaloid‐retinal vessel, whereas occludin and ZO‐1 were not observed on the vessel. In addition, the hyaloid‐retinal vessel was so leaky that a mixture of fluorescein tracers (2,000‐kDa FITC‐dextran, 10‐kDa rhodamine‐dextran, and 350‐Da DAPI) diffusely infiltrated into all retinal layers. Our results suggest that, unlike retinal vessels of higher vertebrates, the hyaloid‐retinal vessel of zebrafish shows insufficient characteristics to meet a functional endothelium‐based CNS barrier. Therefore, it might be not suitable to use the hyaloid‐retinal vessel of zebrafish for studying BRB biogenesis. © 2011 Wiley‐Liss, Inc.</P>
Changes in Plasma Cortisol in Patients with Bronchial Asthma
Kim, Kwan Hyoung,Han, Ki Don,Song, Jeong Sup,Moon, Hwa Sik,Park, Sung Hak,Byun, Hae Won CATHOLIC MEDICAL CENTER 1987 Bulletin of the Clinical Research Institute Vol.15 No.1
To examine the possible contribution of the circardian rhythm of plasma cortisol level to pathogenesis of bronchial asthma, the levels of plasma cortisol were measured at 8 A.M., 11 P.M., before and after ACTH infusion for 8 hours. The observed results were as follows : 1. In patients with bronchial asthma without nocturnal dyspnea, the value of plasma cortisol at 8 A.M. was 15.1 ± 7.0 ug/dl and at 11 p.M.8.8 ± 5,7 ug/dl. 2. In 17 patients with nocturnal or morning dipper asthma, the value of plasma cortisol at 11 P.M. was 3.2 ± 1.1 ug/dl and was lower than that of bronchial asthmatics without noctural dyspnea (p < 0.01). 3. In 20 bronchial asthmatics without nocturnal dyspnea. The value of plasma cortisol before ACTH infusion was 12.6 ± 5.9 ug/dl and after ACTH infusion 35.1 ±3.2 ug/dl. The results of present study show that the patients with bronchial asthma have normal circardian rhythm of cortisol level, but the bronchial asthamtics with nocturnal dyspnea have lower level of plasma cortisol at 11 P.M. than that of bronchial asthmatics without nocturnal dyspnea. The function of adrenal cortisol secretion after stimulation with ACTH infusion was normal. The circardian rhythm of coirticosteroid secretion seems to be a possible factor of nocturnal asthma.

<P>Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker and partial peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma agonist that modulates the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system. It is used primarily to manage hypertension, diabetic nephropathy, and congestive heart failure. Recent studies have reported that myocardial infarction (MI) has occurred in telmisartan-treated patients. The purpose of the study was to investigate the specific conditions and underlying mechanisms that may result in telmisartan-induced MI. We evaluated the effect of telmisartan on whole hearts, cardiomyocytes, and cardiac sarcolemmal ion channels. Hearts of 8-week-old male Sprague-Dawley rats were perfused with 3, 10, 30, or 100?μM telmisartan or losartan or with normal Tyrode's solution (control) for 3?h. We found that telmisartan induced myocardial infarction, with an infarct size of 21?% of the total at 30?μM (P?<?0.0001) and 63?% of the total area at 100?μM (P?<?0.001). Telmisartan also induced cardiac dysfunction (e.g., decreased heart rate, diminished coronary flow, hypercontracture, and arrhythmia). Confocal microscopy demonstrated that 30?μM telmisartan significantly elevated the intracellular Ca(2+) level, leading to hypercontracture and cell death. Patch clamp analysis of isolated cardiomyocytes revealed that telmisartan induced Na(+) overload by slowing the inactivation of voltage-gated Na(+) current (I (Na)), activating the reverse mode of Na(+)-Ca(2+) exchanger activity, and causing Ca(2+) overload. Telmisartan significantly delayed the inactivation of the voltage-gated Na(+) channel, causing cytosolic Na(+) overload, prolonged action potential duration, and subsequent Ca(2+) overload. Above 30?μM, telmisartan may potentially cause cardiac cell death and MI.</P>

<P>For the application of graphene quantum dots (GQDs) to optoelectronic nanodevices, it is of critical importance to understand the mechanisms which result in novel phenomena of their light absorption/emission. Here, we present size-dependent shape/edge-state variations of GQDs and visible photoluminescence (PL) showing anomalous size dependences. With varying the average size (d(a)) of GQDs from 5 to 35 nm, the peak energy of the absorption spectra monotonically decreases, while that of the visible PL spectra unusually shows nonmonotonic behaviors having a minimum at d(a) = ~17 nm. The PL behaviors can be attributed to the novel feature of GQDs, that is, the circular-to-polygonal-shape and corresponding edge-state variations of GQDs at d(a) = ~17 nm as the GQD size increases, as demonstrated by high-resolution transmission electron microscopy.</P>
