We report on a case of post-burn contracture and right foot deformity in a 37-year-old female who underwent two surgical interventions at the age of seven years. The patient remained well without any associated problems until she presented to our hospital at the age of 37 years with severe pain and right foot deformity. A few treatment modalities have been reported, and amputation has been suggested as the best approach. However, our patient was treated with a talonavicular arthrodesis and a soft tissue procedure, which resulted in a stable, plantigrade, and pain-free foot with an unsupported, bipedal gait.

One of key issues for online service providers due to the increased competition is “churn” or customer movement in and out of the marketplace. Although many studies were conducted to study user‟{s switching behavior on various online services (web browsers, blogs, etc.), only a few studies were made regarding the switching behavior of users in social networking sites (SNSs). Considering the widespread use of SNSs around the world and the sudden shift of Filipino SNS usage from Friendster to Facebook, this paper examines five possible factors that should affect the user‟s intention and behavior to switch from one SNS to another. An exploratory interview was done to 15 Filipino students to create ideas for possible factors affecting SNS users and scales from previous studies were used to make the survey questionnaire. A pilot test was then conducted to 20 Filipino students and appropriate modifications on the items were made from the results. Finally, the survey was distributed online through Facebook messages and emails.
Uterine clear cell carcinoma risk in White versus non-White US subpopulations: does race matter?
Stephanie Chow,Deanna Wong,Cheng-I Liao,Amandeep Mann,Chunqiao Tian,Kathleen M. Darcy,John K. Chan 대한부인종양학회 2020 Journal of Gynecologic Oncology Vol.31 No.6
Objective: To determine incidence rates of uterine clear cell carcinoma among non-White USsubpopulations. Methods: Data from the United States Cancer Statistics and National Cancer Database from2004 to 2016 were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: A total of 488,811 women were diagnosed with uterine cancer from 2004–2016. Of these, 73.3% were endometrioid, 6.6% were serous, 5.3% were carcinosarcoma, 1.4%were clear cell, and 13.4% were other. Blacks had the highest incidence rate of uterine clearcell compared with Whites, Asian/Pacific Islanders, and American Indian/Alaska Natives(0.59 vs. 0.31, 0.29, and 0.24, respectively). Overall mean age at diagnosis was 68.6 years, with the youngest age in Asian/Pacific Islanders compared to Whites, Blacks, and AmericanIndian/Alaska Natives (65.9 vs. 68.7, 68.6, and 66.3 years, respectively). Analysis of the Asiansubpopulation revealed significantly younger age at diagnosis in Vietnamese women (55.8years) compared with 72.4 years in Japanese, 68.6 years in Pacific Islander, 66.6 years inIndian/Pakistani, 65.9 years in Filipino, 65.8 years in Chinese, 65.2 years in Korean, and 63.7years in other Asians. Conclusions: Black women are two times more likely to be diagnosed with uterine clear cellcarcinoma compared with other races. Asians present at younger ages, with Vietnamesewomen most likely to be diagnosed at the youngest age.
Liquid Crystal Droplet Patterns to Monitor Catalase Activity at Femtomolar Levels
Stephanie Yoon,장창현 대한화학회 2014 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.35 No.9
Catalase (CAT) decomposes hydrogen peroxide that is toxic to the body. In this study, simple and sensitive detector has been developed for observing catalase activity using liquid crystal droplet system. Microscale LC droplet patterns are formed by spreading aldehyde-doped nematic liquid crystal on pre-treated glass slides. When hydrogen peroxide is added, aldehyde is oxidized and amphiphiles are formed. Dodecanoates cause the pattern to transit from bright to dark as they self-assemble to form a carboxyalte monolayer at the interface. When a drop of pre-incubated CAT and hydrogen peroxide mixture is placed onto the pattern, bright fan-shape is observed. This planar optical appearance indicates that catalase has decomposed hydrogen peroxide. Compared to the detectors that have been previously developed, this system is more sensitive with detection limit of 1fM. This research suggests further studies to be on LC droplet patterning to develop highly sensitive and methodologically simple sensors for various chemicals.
Diverse yet Distinct: Philippine Men’s Clothing in the Nineteenth Century, 1850s-1890s
( Stephanie Marie R. Coo ) 부산외국어대학교 동남아지역원 2017 Suvannabhumi Vol.9 No.2
The changing of clothes in Balagtas’ 1860 fictional comedy La filipina elegante y negrito amante (The Elegant Filipina and the Amorous Negrito) is used to explore the ethnic, cultural, and sartorial diversity in 19th century colonial Philippines. But, how does plurality in men’s clothing reflect the socio-economic conditions of the late Spanish colonial period? This paper focuses on the diversity in Philippine men’s clothing around 1850 to 1896, taking into account the limited range of colonial archetypes in iconographic and documentary sources. Underscoring the colonial culture that shaped mentalities and tendencies, this study offers insights on how clothing was used and how it was perceived in relation to the wearer. In discussing clothing diversity, distinctiveness was articulated using the work of J.A.B. Wiselius (1875), a Dutch colonial administrator in neighboring Indonesia, who in comparing Spanish and Dutch systems of colonial governance, underscored the Filipino penchant for imitation.
Clustering of craniofacial patterns in Korean children with snoring
Stephanie Maritza Anderson,Hoi-Jeong Lim,Ki-Beom Kim,Sung-Wan Kim,Su-Jung Kim 대한치과교정학회 2017 대한치과교정학회지 Vol.47 No.4
Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate whether the craniofacial patterns of Korean children with snoring and adenotonsillar hypertrophy (ATH) could be categorized into characteristic clusters according to age. Methods: We enrolled 236 children with snoring and ATH (age range, 5–12 years) in this study. They were subdivided into four age groups: 5–6, 7–8, 9–10, and 11–12 years. Based on cephalometric analysis, the sagittal and vertical skeletal patterns of each individual were divided into Class I, II, and III, as well as the normodivergent, hypodivergent, and hyperdivergent patterns, respectively. Cluster analysis was performed using cephalometric principal components in addition to the age factor. Results: Three heterogeneous clusters of craniofacial patterns were obtained in relation to age: cluster 1 (41.9%) included patients aged 5–8 years with a skeletal Class I or mild Class II and hyperdivergent pattern; cluster 2 (45.3%) included patients aged 9–12 years with a Class II and hyperdivergent pattern; and cluster 3 (12.8%) included patients aged 7–8 years with a Class III and hyperdivergent pattern. Conclusions: This study found that the craniofacial patterns of Korean children with snoring and ATH could be categorized into three characteristic clusters according to age groups. Although no significantly dominant sagittal skeletal discrepancy was observed, hyperdivergent vertical discrepancy was consistently evident in all clusters.
