Immunomodulatory Activity of Type-4 Resistant Starch in the Mesenteric Lymph Nodes of Rats

We evaluated the immunomodulatory activity of type-4 resistant starch (RS) in mesenteric lymph nodes (MLNs) using a rat model. Sixteen male Sprague-Dawley rats were fed either a cellulose diet or an RS diet (RSD) for 4 weeks. Serum immunoglobulin A levels, as well as the CD4+ T cell population and the ratio of CD4+/CD8+ T cells in the MLNs of rats, were significantly elevated by replacing cellulose with RS in the diet. The survival rate of concanavalin A (Con A)-stimulated MLN lymphocytes and interleukin-4 secretion from the Con A-stimulated MLN lymphocytes were significantly increased in rats fed RSD. These results indicate that type-4 RS might ameliorate allergic inflammation in the MLNs of rats through an increased CD4+ T cell population and enhanced differentiation of MLN lymphocytes into type-2 T cells.

This study was conducted to investigate the antiobesity effect of peptides derived from defatted mealworm (Tenebrio molitor larvae) and to determine the expression level of obesity-related membrane-associated proteins in the rat muscle. The production of functional peptide was produced by hydrolysis of mealworm protein using commercial enzymes. To evaluate anti-obesity effects through animal feeding experiments, a total of thirty-two rats were randomly divided into control diet (CD), 5% mealworm peptide supplemented control diet (CT), highfat diet (HD), and 5% mealworm peptide supplemented high-fat diet group (HT). The weight loss of HT was confirmed by mealworm peptides feeding. The weights of fat tissues (perirenal and epididymal) of HT were significantly decreased, however, soleus muscle weight of HT was significantly increased compared to those of the HD, respectively. The expression levels of obesity-related membrane-associated proteins (FABPpm, PGC-1α, and PPAR) in HT group involved in fatty acid transport and utilization were significantly higher than that of the HD. From these results, mealworm peptide supplement showed an anti-obesity effect by stimulation of FABPpm, PGC-1α, and PPAR-δ in skeletal muscle and then showed an increase in muscle weight along with body weight loss in HT group.
애착 외상과 데이트 폭력 피해의 관계에서 사회적 지지의 조절효과

본 연구는 애착 외상과 데이트 폭력 피해의 관계에서 사회적 지지의 조절효과를 검증해 보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 데이트 경험이 있는 성인 미혼 남녀 363명을 대상으로 아동기 외상 질문지 단축판(CTQ-SF), 갈등관리 척도-2(CTS-2), 사회적 지지 척도를 실시하였으며, 구조방정식 모형을 통해 조절효과를 검증하였다. 본 연구의 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 성별에 따른 주요 변인들의 차이를 살펴본 결과, 여성이 남성에 비해 애착 외상의 하위요인 중 정서적 학대를 높게 보고했고, 다른 변인들에는 유의한 성차가 없었다. 둘째, 상관분석을 통해 알아본 결과, 애착외상과 사회적 지지, 사회적 지지와 데이트 폭력 피해는 각각 부적 상관을 나타냈다. 셋째, 애착 외상과 데이트 폭력 피해와의 관계에서 사회적 지지의 완충적인 조절효과가 확인되었다. 이는 아동기에 외상을 경험하였다 할지라도 사회적으로 지지받을 수 있는 체계가 있다면, 데이트 폭력 피해라는 부정적 결과를 감소 시킬 수 있음을 보여준다. 위의 결과를 바탕으로 본 연구의 의의와 제한점, 그리고 후속연구를 위한 제언을 논의하였다. The purpose of this study was to examine the moderating effects of social support on the relationship between attachment trauma and the victimization of dating violence. For this purpose, 363 adult unmarried men and women completed measures of Childhood Trauma Questionnaire-Short Form(CTQ-SF), The Revised Conflict Tactics Scales(CTS-2), and Social Support Scale. Structural equation modeling(SEM) was used for testing of the moderating effect. The results of this study are summarized as follows. First, Gender difference was significant in one variable. Women reported higher emotional abuse than men. Second, there was a significant positive correlation among attachment trauma and the victimization of dating violence. Also, social support showed significant negative correlations with attachment trauma and the victimization of dating violence. Third, social support was found to be a significant moderator between attachment trauma and the victimization of dating violence. This study suggests that attachment trauma can be a risk factor to increase the victimization of dating violence, and high level of social support can be a buffer to lower the victimization of dating violence. Based on the above results, the implications and limitations of this study were discussed along with suggestions for further research.
Isolation and identification of mosquito-borne zoonotic diseases in slaughterhouse in Daejeon

This study was performed to investigate the distribution of mosquito vectors related to the zoonotic disease in Daejeon. Samples were taken using a blacklight trap once a month from March to November 2021 at the slaughterhouse in Daejeon. A total of 820 mosquitoes were captured and classified into 5 genera and 8 species. Among the collected mosquitoes, 319 (38.9%) and 295 (35.93%) were Aedes vexans nipponii and Culex pipiens pallens , respectively, making them the dominant species. The overall number of mosquitoes collected started to increase from May and reached the largest value of 329 (40.12%) in June. Trapped mosquitoes are created 72 pools by environmental condition and by species. The pools were tested by PCR methods for 7 zoonotic pathogens. Flaviviruspositive products were confirmed by DNA sequencing. Japanese encephalitis viruses were detected in 3 pools collected from cow lairage (Culex pipiens pallens ) in May, cow by-product processing room (Aedes vexans nipponii ) in June and cow lairage (Mansonia uniformis ) in June. Culex flavivirus were detected in 4 pools. Based on the results of this study, it is considered that continous surveillence of mosquitoes in livestock assembly facilities (slaughterhouse) should be performed for controlling mosquito populations and mediating disease spread by mosquitoes.
