Direct synthesis of H2O2 and in situ oxidative desulfurization of model fuel over Au/Ti-HMS and Au/TS-1 catalysts has been comparatively investigated in water or methanol. Maximum amount (82%) of active Au0 species for H2O2 synthesis was obtained. Au/Ti-HMS and Au/TS-1 exhibited the contrary performances in H2O2 synthesis as CH3OH/H2O ratio of solvent changed. H2O2 decomposition and hydrogenation in water was inhibited by the introduction of methanol. Effect of O2/H2 ratio on H2O2 concentration, H2 conversion and H2O2 selectivity revealed a relationship between H2O2 generation and H2 consumption. The highest dibenzothiophene removal rate (83.2%) was obtained over Au/Ti-HMS in methanol at 1.5 of O2/H2 ratio and 60 oC. But removal of thiophene over Au/TS-1 should be performed in water without heating to obtain a high removal rate (61.3%). Meanwhile, H2 conversion and oxidative desulfurization selectivity of H2 were presented.
Nomogram for predicting overall survival in children with neuroblastoma based on SEER database

Purpose: This study was performed to establish and validate a nomogram for predicting the overall survival in children with neuroblastoma. Methods: The latest clinical data of neuroblastoma in Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database was extracted from 2000 to 2016. The cases included were randomly divided into training and validation cohorts. The survival curves were drawn with a Kaplan-Meier estimator to investigate the influences of certain single factors on overall survival. Also, least absolute shrinkage and selection operator regression was applied to further select the prognostic variables for neuroblastoma. Additionally, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves and calibration curves were used to evaluate the accuracy of the nomogram. Results: In total, 1,262 patients were collected and 8 independent prognostic factors were achieved, including patients’ age, sex, race, tumor grade, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, tumor site, and tumor size. Then we constructed a nomogram by using the data of the training cohort with 886 cases. Subsequently, the nomogram was validated internally and externally with 886 and 376 cases, respectively. The internal validation revealed that the area under the curves (AUC) of ROC curves of 1-, 3-, and 5-year overall survival were 0.69, 0.78, and 0.81, respectively. Accordingly, the external validation also showed that the AUC of 1-, 3-, and 5-year overall survival were all ≥0.69. Both methods of validation demonstrated that the predictive calibration curves were consistent with standard curves. Conclusion: The nomogram possess the potential to be a new tool in predicting the survival rate of neuroblastoma patients.

<P><B>Background</B></P><P>Low methylation status of <I>LINE-1</I> in tumors is associated with poor survival in patients with colon cancer. Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status (ECOG-PS) is a method to assess the functional status of a patient. We retrospectively evaluated the relationship between ECOG-PS and <I>LINE-1</I> methylation in colorectal cancers (CRCs) and their prognostic impact in CRC or colon cancer patients receiving adjuvant 5-fluorouracil/leucovorin/oxaliplatin (FOLFOX).</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P><I>LINE-1</I> methylation and microsatellite instability were analyzed in stage III or high-risk stage II CRCs (<I>n</I> = 336). <I>LINE-1</I> methylation levels were correlated with clinicopathological features, including PS and recurrence-free survival (RFS). The association between the tumoral <I>LINE-1</I> methylation level and PS was observed (OR = 2.56, <I>P</I> < 0.001). Differences in <I>LINE-1</I> methylation levels in cancer tissue between the PS 0 and 1 groups were significant in patients older than 60 years (<I>P</I> = 0.001), the overweight body mass index group (<I>P =</I> 0.005), and the stage III disease group (<I>P</I> = 0.008). Prognostic significances of <I>LINE-1</I> methylation status or combined PS and <I>LINE-1</I> methylation statuses were identified in stage III colon cancers, not in stage III and high-risk stage II CRCs. Low <I>LINE-1</I> methylation status was closely associated with a shorter RFS time. The difference between PS(0)/<I>LINE-1</I>(high) and PS(≥1)/<I>LINE-1</I>(low) was significant, which suggests that colon cancer patients with concurrent PS(≥1)/<I>LINE-1</I> (low) have a higher recurrence rate.</P><P><B>Conclusions</B></P><P>PS was associated with <I>LINE-1</I> methylation in CRC tissue. <I>LINE-1</I> methylation was associated with RFS in stage III colon cancer patients who were treated with adjuvant FOLFOX chemotherapy. A new simple 3-node triangular flat-shell element with standard nodal DOF (6 DOF per node) is proposed for the linear and geometrically nonlinear analysis of very thin to thick plate and shell structures. The formulation of element GT9 (Long and Xu 1994), a generalized conforming membrane element with rigid rotational freedoms, is employed as the membrane component of the new shell element. Both one-point reduced integration scheme and a corresponding stabilization matrix are adopted for avoiding membrane locking and hourglass phenomenon. The bending component of the new element comes from a new generalized conforming Kirchhoff-Mindlin plate element TSL-T9, which is derived in this paper based on semiLoof constrains and rational shear interpolation. Thus the convergence can be guaranteed and no shear locking will happen. Furthermore, a simple hybrid procedure is suggested to improve the stress solutions, and the Updated Lagrangian formulae are also established for the geometrically nonlinear problems. Numerical results with solutions, which are solved by some other recent element models and the models in the commercial finite element software ABAQUS, are presented. They show that the proposed element, denoted as GMST18, exhibits excellent and better performance for the analysis of thin-think plates and shells in both linear and geometrically nonlinear problems.

The present study was conducted to evaluate the effect of a fraction of macroporous resin (FMR), a bioactive component of Smilax china L., on benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in castrated rats induced by testosterone propionate. Rats were randomly divided into five groups: the negative control group (sham-operated), the model group, two FMR-treated groups (at doses of 300mg/kg and 600 mg/kg of body weight), and the positive control group (treated with finasteride at the dose of 3 mg/kg). Drugs were administered once a day for three consecutive weeks by gastric gavage. Prostates were weighed, testosterone and dihydrotestosterone (DHT) levels in serum were determined, and histopathological examinations were carried out. FMR treatment inhibited prostatic hyperplasia, reducing the DHT level in serum and improving the prostate gland morphology compared with the model group. The overall results of this study suggest that FMR is effective at inhibiting experimentally induced prostate enlargement, and it presents a valuable resource for the treatment of human BPH.

Purpose The purpose of this study was to investigate the survival trends and patterns of failure in patients with stage II nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) treated with radiotherapy (RT) and chemotherapy over the last 20 years. Materials and Methods Thirty-eight hundred and eight patients diagnosed with stage II NPC between January 1990 and December 2012 were involved in this retrospective cohort study. All patients were treated with RT. According to the main imaging techniques and RT technology, we categorized these patients into four calendar periods: 1990-1996, 1997-2002, 2003-2007, and 2008-2012. Overall survival (OS), progression-free survival (PFS), locoregional relapse-free survival (LRFS), and distant metastasis–free survival (DMFS) were served as the clinical outcome. Results After a median follow-up period of 84.7 months, we observed increasing trends in survival and disease control. The 3- and 5-year OS rates increased from 87.1% and 78.7% in the first calendar period to 97.4% and 94.5% in the last calendar period, respectively (p < 0.001). Additionally, significant increasing trends could be seen in the PFS and LRFS during the four calendar periods. In the subgroup analysis, the LRFS in patients older than 50 years at diagnosis showed greater improvement than younger patients. However, the rate of distant metastasis was stable and relatively low, as the 5-year DMFS ranged from 90.5% to 94.7% among the four calendar periods. Conclusion The survival rates in patients with stage II NPC showed increasing trends from 1990 to 2012. The advance of RT provided excellent locoregional control and enhanced OS.
