        『오만과 편견』번역서에 나타난 존재구문의 초점구조 실현양상 연구

        This study was intended to see how There existential sentences are realized in English-Korean translation under the notion of information structure using Lambrecht’s focus structures. The target texts are three translated versions of Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. After the study, it was founded that there are more different versions of translation in the sentences with negatives than with quantifiers. That is because the ones with negatives are a predicate-focus structure where verbs have more variables to be translated. On the other hand, the ones with quantifiers are an argument-focus structure in which a quantifier itself does not have many versions of translated counterpart. There existential sentence is one of the unique and efficient ways of English to focus certain nouns with negatives and quantifiers as well as to introduce a noun as new information. English writers use this specific sentence for the specific reason and it should also be realized in translation. (Halla University)

      • Integrated genome sizing (IGS) approach for the parallelization of whole genome analysis

        <P><B>Background</B></P><P>The use of whole genome sequence has increased recently with rapid progression of next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies. However, storing raw sequence reads to perform large-scale genome analysis pose hardware challenges. Despite advancement in genome analytic platforms, efficient approaches remain relevant especially as applied to the human genome. In this study, an Integrated Genome Sizing (IGS) approach is adopted to speed up multiple whole genome analysis in high-performance computing (HPC) environment. The approach splits a genome (GRCh37) into 630 chunks (fragments) wherein multiple chunks can simultaneously be parallelized for sequence analyses across cohorts.</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>IGS was integrated on Maha-Fs (HPC) system, to provide the parallelization required to analyze 2504 whole genomes. Using a single reference pilot genome, NA12878, we compared the NGS process time between Maha-Fs (NFS SATA hard disk drive) and SGI-UV300 (solid state drive memory). It was observed that SGI-UV300 was faster, having 32.5 mins of process time, while that of the Maha-Fs was 55.2 mins.</P><P><B>Conclusions</B></P><P>The implementation of IGS can leverage the ability of HPC systems to analyze multiple genomes simultaneously. We believe this approach will accelerate research advancement in personalized genomic medicine.         A Fully integrated D-band Direct-Conversion I/Q Transmitter and Receiver Chipset in SiGe BiCMOS Technology

        This paper presents design and characterizationof single-chip 110–170 GHz (D-band) direct conversion in phase/quadrature-phase (I/Q) transmitter and receiver monolithicmicrowave integrated circuits (MMICs), realized in a 130 nm SiGeBiCMOS process with ft/fmax of 250 GHz/370 GHz. The chipset issuitable for low power wideband communication and can be usedin both homodyne and heterodyne architectures. The Transmit ter chip consists of a six-stage power amplifier, an I/Q modulator,and a LO multiplier chain. The LO multiplier chain consists offrequency sixtupler followed by a two-stage amplifier. It exhibitsa single sideband conversion gain of 23 dB and saturated outputpower of 0 dBm. The 3 dB RF bandwidth is 31 GHz from 114 to145 GHz. The receiver includes a low noise amplifier, I/Q demodu lator and x6 multiplier chain at the LO port. The receiver providesa conversion gain of 27 dB and has a noise figure of 10 dB. It has 3dB RF bandwidth of 28 GHz from 112-140 GHz. The transmitterand receiver have dc power consumption of 240 mW and 280 mW,respectively. The chip area of each transmitter and receiver circuitis 1.4 mm × 1.1 mm.

        Antenatal Diagnosis of Iniencephaly: Sonographic and MR Correlation: A Case Report

        Iniencephaly is an uncommon and fatal neural tube defect involving the occiput and inion, this occurs together with rachischisis of the cervical and thoracic spine, and retroflexion of the head. We report the ultrasound (US) and magnetic resonance (MR) imaging findings of a case of iniencephaly with clubfeet and arthrogryposis. The diagnosis of iniencephaly is easy to make on ultrasound due to the typical star-gazing fetus. However, the details of the fetal brain and spinal cord may not be adequately delineated on US. We found MR imaging to be superior for depicting central nervous system abnormalities. MR imaging has evolved as an imaging modality and it is complementary to fetal US, yet US remains the screening modality of choice.

        Two way network construction and analysis of mRNA, miRNA and lncRNA reveals critical regulators and regulatory modules in cardiovascular diseases

        Background Cardiovascular diseases contribute to the leading cause of deaths (31%) in the world population. Objective The objective of this study is to compile non-coding RNA-gene interaction into a core regulatory network whose dysregulation might play an important role in disease progression. Method We applied a structured approach to reconstruct the interaction network of lncRNAs, miRNAs and genes involved in cardiovascular diseases. For network construction, we used ‘diseasome to interactome’ and ‘interactome to diseasome’ approaches and developed two regulatory networks in heart disorders. In diseasome to interactome approach, starting from a disease-centric network we, expanded the data into an interaction network. However in interactome to diseasome, we used a set of guide genes, miRNAs and lncRNAs to arrive at the common diseases. The disease-centric network in combination with the interaction network will shed light on the interconnected components in a huge diseasome network implicated in heart disorders and manifested through small sub-networks while progressing. Using the above networks we created a subnetworks consisting only of hub genes, miRNAs and lncRNAs on both approaches. The dysregulation of any one of the hubs can lead to a disease condition. Results The top ranking hubs common in both the sub-networks were found to be VEGFA, MALAT1, HOTAIR, H19 and hsa-miR-15a. Our network based study reveals an entanglement of regulatory sub-network of miRNAs, lncRNAs and genes in multiple conditions. Conclusion The identification of hubs in the core triple node network of elements in disease development and progression demonstrates a promising role for network based approaches in targeting critical molecules for drug development.

        A Review Study of Information-Structural Perspectives on THERE Existential Sentences

        Purpose: This paper is to review some recent studies on There existential sentences under the notion of Infor-mation Structure, showing that the main purpose of using There sentence is to stress negative or quantifier words within the sentence. It begins with some research data on the patterns of There existential sentences in two Eng-lish novels, one Korean-English translation and three versions of English-Korean translation: ‘Sense and Sensibil-ity’, ‘Pride and Prejudice’ by Jane Austen; and three English-Korean translations of ‘Pride and Prejudice’ . Then, it follows two empirical studies on the acquisition level of There sentences. Method: There are two studies on research data analysis and two empirical studies. The first research data of two novels is from Literature Online Collection(Lion) and uses AntConc corpus analysis toolkit(3.5.8.0). In the sec-ond study, ‘The Vegetarian’ is chosen as a representative of Korean-English novel because it won The Man Booker International Prize. However, the three English-Korean translated versions of ‘Pride and Prejudice’ are randomly chosen. Then, the first acquisition level study has 17 university students answer 9 questions on information struc-ture sentences; There expletive, passive and inversion sentences, and the second study has 75 students answer 12 questions on There sentences only. Both studies use SPSS 20.0 for the data analysis. Results: According to the text analysis, more than 50% of There sentences have negative words or quantifiers with nouns as a way of end-focus realization. In other words, one of the main reasons to use the There construc-tion is to stress the non-existence of a certain noun or the quantity of a noun using There expletive. Thus, the data from translations says There sentences with quantifiers are more realized than those with negatives, and this also applies to the level of acquisition. The survey participants of the empirical studies are shown more aware of the sentences with quantifiers than negative words. Conclusion: English writers or speakers use There expletive sentences for specific reasons and one of them is to make readers or hearers to focus on some negatives or quantifiers with the nouns within the sentence. However, it seems that this reason has not been considered in both English education and English-Korean translation. Even though the studies mentioned in this paper need more back up data in both research and empirical area, this summary of previous studies will be a starting point to lead to further studies in this field.

        Accessibility modeling for land use, population and public transportation in Mashhad, NE Iran

        Accessibility analysis is an important subject in urban land use assessment and transportation management in order to predict the travel supply-demands of residential population and to allocate main land use destinations. In the present study, a GIS-based accessibility modeling for land use and public transport analysis was constructed to measure and survey the accessibility levels in different zones of Mashhad city, North-eastern Iran. Analytic network process was used to obtain the weights of the criteria, which are applied to produce a unique main land use (MLU) layer. Then, correlation coefficients for analysis of relationship between MLU destinations and their trip attractions, bus stations of public transportation (PT) and residential population (RP) was carried out. Results revealed that, the current development of PT in Mashhad does not bear a direct spatial relationship with RP (with R = -0.40) and starting point of urban trips. Statistically, current development of PT in Mashhad depends on the MLU destinations (with R = 0.64) especially commercial constructions.

        Buckling analysis of sandwich beam reinforced by GPLs using various shear deformation theories

        In this research, the buckling analysis of sandwich beam with composite reinforced by graphene platelets (GPLs) in two face sheets is investigated. Three type various porosity patterns including uniform, symmetric and asymmetric are considered through the thickness direction of the core. Also, the top and bottom face sheets layers are considered composite reinforced by GPLs/CNTs based on Halpin-Tsai micromechanics model and extended mixture rule, respectively. Based on various shear deformation theories such as Euler-Bernoulli, Timoshenko and Reddy beam theories, the governing equations of equilibrium using minimum total potential energy are obtained. It is seen that the critical buckling load decreases with an increase in the porous coefficient, because the stiffness of sandwich beam reduces. Also, it is shown that the critical buckling load for asymmetric distribution is lower than the other cases. It can see that the effect of graphene platelets on the critical buckling load is higher than carbon nanotubes. Moreover, it is seen that the difference between carbon nanotubes and graphene platelets for Reddy and Euler-Bernoulli beam theories is most and least, respectively.
