        Cancer risk based on alcohol consumption levels: a comprehensive systematic review and meta-analysis

        OBJECTIVES: Alcohol consumption is a well-established risk factor for cancer. Despite extensive research into the relationship between alcohol consumption and cancer risk, the effect of light alcohol consumption on cancer risk remains a topic of debate. To contribute to this discourse, we conducted a comprehensive systematic review and meta-analysis. METHODS: Our systematic review aimed to investigate the associations between different levels of alcohol consumption and the risk of several cancer types. We focused on analyzing prospective associations using data from 139 cohort studies. Among them, 106 studies were included in the meta-analysis after a quantitative synthesis. RESULTS: Our analysis did not find a significant association between light alcohol consumption and all-cause cancer risk (relative risk, 1.02; 95% confidence interval, 0.99 to 1.04), but we observed a dose-response relationship. Light alcohol consumption was significantly associated with higher risks of esophageal, colorectal, and breast cancers. Light to moderate drinking was associated with elevated risks of esophageal, colorectal, laryngeal, and breast cancers. Heavy drinking was also found to contribute to the risk of stomach, liver, pancreas, and prostate cancers, thereby increasing the risk of almost all types of cancer. Additionally, females generally had lower cancer risks compared to males. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings highlight that cancer risks extend beyond heavy alcohol consumption to include light alcohol consumption as well. These findings suggest that there is no safe level of alcohol consumption associated with cancer risk. Our results underscore the importance of public health interventions addressing alcohol consumption to mitigate cancer risks.

      • Antibacterial Analysis of Extracts from Selected Tropical Plants and Study on Potential Application to Antimicrobial Substance

        Since ancient times, some plants with antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties have been used in traditional medicine. In this study, the tropical plants from Malaysia were obtained by the International Center for Biological Materials Research (IBMRC), and the antibacterial activity of 87 samples was investigated. The antibacterial activity was determined by the disc diffusion method using gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. As a result, 6 extracts that significantly represented an inhibition zone against Gram-positive bacteria are as follows: Rhodamnia uniflora, Melastoma molle, Ochanostachys amentacea, Syzygium attenuatum, Melastoma muticu, Garcinia mangostana. In addition, extracts from G. mangostana and Leea indica showed antibacterial activity against Gram-negative bacteria. In conclusion, it was confirmed that extract from G. mangostana has high antibacterial activity and can be used as an antimicrobial substance with a wide range because it can be applied to both gram-positive and gram-negative.

        Functional central limit theorems for ARCH(∞) models

        In this paper, we study ARCH(${\infty}$) models with either geometrically decaying coefficients or hyperbolically decaying coefficients. Most popular autoregressive conditional heteroscedasticity (ARCH)-type models such as various modified generalized ARCH (GARCH) (p, q), fractionally integrated GARCH (FIGARCH), and hyperbolic GARCH (HYGARCH). can be expressed as one of these cases. Sufficient conditions for $L_2$-near-epoch dependent (NED) property to hold are established and the functional central limit theorems for ARCH(${\infty}$) models are proved.

        A Corpus-based Genre Analysis of Curriculum Vitae

        This paper aims to provide customized guidelines to EFL learners for writing in a specific genre (curriculum vitae). To this end, a total of 100 typical samples of CVs distributed by several UK and US universities were collected and analyzed using a genre-based approach. In this paper, the major features of genre analysis and corpus-based genre analysis techniques will be introduced. The collected CVs will then be analyzed, with a focus on the ‘Experience’ section in terms of its informational structures, communicative goals, and lexical items supporting the goals. The findings of the analysis of the ‘Experience’ stage in CVs are as follows. In terms of the overall linguistic characteristics, goal-oriented informational structures, reader-friendly presentation, and very specific and detailed supporting evidence was used; several sub-stages were employed, which contain different information with different communicative goals; several lexical and grammatical features from words to clauses were included, and these varied from stage to stage and made a great contribution to the accomplishment of the individual communicative goals. From these findings, the pedagogical implications will be discussed.

        Evaluation of Two Types of Biosensors for Immunoassay of Botulinum Toxin

        Immunoassay of botulinum toxin (BTX) B type was investigated using two types of biosensors: light addressable potentiometric sensor (LAPS) and surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor. Urease-tagged and immuno-filtration capture method have been used for LAPS. Tag-free and direct binding real-time detection method have been used for SPR sensor. The detection limit of sandwich assay format with LAPS was 10ng/ml, which was the lowest among methods tested. SPR has the advantage of being more convenient because Tag-free direct binding assay can be used and reaction time was reduced, regardless of low sensitivity. This result shows that sandwich assay format with LAPS can be used as an alternative method of BTX mouse bioassay which is known as the most sensitive method for the detection of BTX.

        Heterologous Expression of Daptomycin Biosynthetic Gene Cluster Via Streptomyces Artificial Chromosome Vector System

        The heterologous expression of the Streptomyces natural product (NP) biosynthetic gene cluster (BGC) has become an attractive strategy for the activation, titer improvement, and refactoring of valuable and cryptic NP BGCs. Previously, a Streptomyces artificial chromosomal vector system, pSBAC, was applied successfully to the precise cloning of large-sized polyketide BGCs, including immunosuppressant tautomycetin and antibiotic pikromycin, which led to stable and comparable production in several heterologous hosts. To further validate the pSBAC system as a generally applicable heterologous expression system, the daptomycin BGC of S. roseosporus was cloned and expressed heterologously in a model Streptomyces cell factory. A 65-kb daptomycin BGC, which belongs to a non-ribosomal polypeptide synthetase (NRPS) family, was cloned precisely into the pSBAC which resulted in 28.9 mg/l of daptomycin and its derivatives in S. coelicolor M511(a daptomycin non-producing heterologous host). These results suggest that a pSBAC-driven heterologous expression strategy is an ideal approach for producing low and inconsistent Streptomyces NRPS-family NPs, such as daptomycin, which are produced low and inconsistent in native host.

        자전거 교통 사고 현황 및 예측 분석

        국내의 자전거 이용 활성화 정책에 따라 자전거 노선 및 자전거 교통 인프라가 계속 확장되는 추세이다. 자전거 인구가 증가함에 따라 해마다 자전거 교통사고도 증가하고 있다. 본 논문은 도로교통공단의 2007년부터 2014년까지의 자전거 교통사고 데이터를 분석하여 교통사고 현황에 대한 통계량을 제시하였다. 또한 기상청의 종관기상관측소 서울지점의 기상 정보를 활용하여 서울지역의 일별 교통사고 발생 건수에 대한 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 그리고 의사결정 트리 분석 방법을 적용하여 교통사고 정보의 교통사고 심각도를 분류 예측하였다. 이러한 기술 분석 및 예측 분석을 통해 향후 자전거 교통사고 예방을 위한 자전거 교통사고 데이터 수집 정책 및 사고 예방 대책 수립에 도움이 되고자 한다. According to the promoting policy for bicycle riding, the bicycle road infrastructure in Korea has been widely established. As the number of bicycle rider increases, bicycle traffic accidents also increase year after year. In this paper, we analyze bicycle traffic accident data from 2007 to 2014 which is provided by Road Traffic Authority and present statistical results of bicycle traffic accidents. And also regression analysis is applied to predict the number of daily traffic accidents in Seoul using ASOS(Automated Synoptic Observing System) climate data observed in the Seoul sector which are provided by Korea Meteorological Administration. In addition, decision tree analysis techniques are used to forecast the level of traffic accidents severity. In the analytic results of this research, we expect that it will be helpful to establish the collective policy of bicycle accident data and protective strategy in order to reduce the number of bicycle accidents.
