Antitumor Activity of the Aqueous-alcoholic Extracts from Unripe Cotton Ball of Gossypium indicum

The present study investigated the antitumor activity of the aqueous-alcoholic extracts from unripe cotton balls of Gossypium indicum. An Exposure of murine B16 melanoma and L1210 lymphoma cells to the extracts resulted in their severe deaths in time- and concentration-dependent manners. Of the extracts, hydrophilic fractions were most efficacious for the antitumor activity and found to contain certain amounts of catechin and its derivatives. The hydrophilic extract fraction C36B2-8 had approximately 10 times more cytotoxic effects on B12 and L1210 cells than on isolated murine thymocytes. High concentrations (>150 $\mu$g/ml) of C 36B3-8 mainly induced necrotic cell death. At low concentrations (<100 $\mu$g/ml), however, C 36B3-8 induced not only necrosis but also apoptosis of the two tumor cell lines, which was proved by the TUNEL staining and DNA fragmentation techniques. The data indicate that certain ingredients of the cotton ball extract of G. indicum have an antitumor activity.

This research examines the effect of educational service quality of Taekwondo gym on parents-satisfaction, exercise adherence, and recommendation intention to provide basic date to come up with management strategy for Taekwondo. The study has obtained data by conducting survey 360 randomly chosen parents through convenience sampling especially who participating children in Taekwondo gym. In fact, 335 in this study. As a result of analysis: First, instructor, consulting, program of education service quality’s sub factors showed significant effect on parents satisfaction. Second, consulting, instructor, program of education service quality’s sub factors showed significant effect on exercise adherence. Third, instructor, price of education service quality’s sub factors showed significant effect on recommendation intention. Forth, parents’ satisfaction in Taekwondo gym had significant effect on exercise adherence and recommendation intention. Fifth, exercise adherence of parents in Taekwondo gym had significant effect on recommendation intention.

관망 내 배관의 간섭 거동에 따른 지하 매설 배관의 영향선 분석을 위하여 실제 환경에 부합하도록 지하의 상부와 하부에 각각 하수관거와 가스관을 매설하여 유한요소모델을 구현하였으며, 두 배관의 교차 정도에 따라 하부 가스 배관의 영향선을 분석하였다. 하수관거와 가스관은 각각 1.0m와 3.39m의 매설심도를 가지며, 두 배관이 이루는 교차각은 0∼90°에 대하여 해석을 실시하였다. 본 연구에서는 Ring Deflection과 Bending Stress의 결과로부터, 교차각에 따른 영향선을 분석하였으며, 그 결과 두 배관이 이루는 교차각과 하부 배관의 영향선은 일치함을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 배관의 간섭 거동에 따른 하부 배관의 영향선은 두 배관의 교차각과 깊은 관계가 있다고 판단된다. In order to make the critical path analysis of gas pipeline located under rigid pipes for interference behavior, FE analysis is performed considering real buried conditions of a drain and a gas pipe according to intersection angle of two pipes. A drain pipe and gas pipe have cover depth respectively 1.0m and 3.39m and this study considers a interference angle in the range of 0∼90°. In this paper, the critical path is analyzed from the result of Ring Deflection and bending stress according to intersection angle. In the event intersection angle of two pipes equal to the critical path of lower pipe. The analysis results show that the critical path of lower gas pipe according to interference behavior has relation to intersection angle of two pipes.

Vaccinia-related kinase 1 (VRK1) and VRK3 are members of the VRK family of serine/threonine kinases and are principally localized in the nucleus. Despite the crucial roles of VRK1/VRK3 in physiology and disease, the molecular and functional interactions of VRK1/VRK3 are poorly understood. Here, we identified over 200 unreported VRK1/VRK3-interacting candidate proteins by affinity purification and LC-MS/MS. The networks of VRK1 and VRK3 interactomes were found to be associated with important biological processes such as the cell cycle, DNA repair, chromatin assembly, and RNA processing. Interactions of interacting proteins with VRK1/VRK3 were confirmed by biochemical assays. We also found that phosphorylations of XRCC5 were regulated by both VRK1/VRK3, and that of CCNB1 was regulated by VRK3. In liver cancer cells and tissues, VRK1/VRK3 were highly upregulated and its depletion affected cell cycle progression in the different phases. VRK3 seemed to affect S phase progression and G2 or M phase entry and exit, whereas VRK1 affects G1/S transition in the liver cancer, which could be explained by different interacting candidate proteins. Thus, this study not only provides a resource for investigating the unidentified functions of VRK1/VRK3, but also an insight into the regulatory roles of VRK1/VRK3 in biological processes.

Our laboratoy has been participated in Proficiency Analytical Testing (PAT) program which is operated by the Americal Industrial Hygiene Association in cooperation with the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). The program is designed to assist a laboratory improve its analytical performance by providing samples on a quarterly basis, evaluating the results, and providing reports on how well the laboratory performed. Evaluation of the results reported here covers five rounds of the PAT program (round 121∼round 125). The way a laboratory is evaluated by PAT program is as follows: 1) There is no overall proficiency rating given to a laboratory. 2) A proficiency rating is given for each type of analyze (i.e., metals, silica, asbestos, solvents) that a laboratory analyzed. 3) Proficiency is rated acceptable ($quot;A$quot;) if Z score lies between -3 and +3, and unacceptable if Z score is either higher than +3 ($quot;H$quot;) or lower than -3 ($quot;Lo$quot;). Z score = (reported data - reference value) / standard deviation 4) For a laboratory to be rated proficient it must either have had no outliers over the most recent two rounds or of the samples actually analyzed over the past year (past four rounds), 75 % or more of the analyze sample results must be acceptable. According to the above rating criteria of PAT program, performance of metals including cadmium, lead, chromium and zinc, and asbestos sample analyses were rated acceptable ($quot;A$quot;). For silica analyses, all samples except one out of four samples in round 122 was rated high($quot;H$quot;) were acceptable showing 95 % of ing 95 % of acceptance rate (19/20) throughout the rounds. Analyses of organic solvents were done on 52 samples in 9 types including methanol(MOH), 1,1,1-trichloroethane(MCM), tetrachloroethylene(PCE), trichloroethylene(TCE), benzene(BNZ), o-xylene(OXY), toluene(TOL), chloroform(CFM), 1,2-dichloroethane(DCE). All samples analyzed were rated acceptable except 2 samples that were rated high; one out of each four MCM and TCE samples in round 121, and one that was low out of four o-xylene analyses in round 122 indicating 94 % of acceptance rate(49/52) throughout the rounds. According to the laboratory rating criteria, our laboratory is rated proficient so far for all types of contaminants.

Purpose: Previous studies have shown the role of Sal-like protein 4 (SALL4) as a biomarker in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and some studies have shown the relationship between SALL4 and prognosis. Given the debates in study groups differences in terms of etiologic causes between Western and Asian HCC and detection methods, we attempted to verify the features of SALL4 immunoreactivity and its clinical correlation in Korean HCC patients. Methods: Immunohistochemical staining of SALL4 of tissue microarrays (TMAs) consisting of 213 surgically resected HCC patients’ tissue were scored in a semiquantitative scoring system with immunoreactive score and the results analyzed with clinical outcome, in addition to general demographics and clinical characteristics. Results: SALL4 immunoreactivity was expressed in 50 cases. Relevance between SALL4 and α-FP correlated significantly (P= 0.002). Also, the SALL4-positive patients had considerably higher tumor grade (P < 0.001). The survival analysis showed negative correlation with SALL4 immunoreactivity in all HCC patient groups, but SALL4 immunoreactivity in T3 and T4 HCC correlated with poor prognosis. Conclusion: Here, we found that positive immunostaining of SALL4 is correlated with poor patient survival outcome in large and undifferentiated Korean HCC. SALL4 expression showed close relationship with clinical outcomes of HCCs in Korean patients.
