        초인지 수업 모형이 자기장 개념 형성에 미치는 효과

        The objective of this research was to study the impact of metacognitive lesson models on the formation of magnetic field concepts. The subjects of this research was eighty students from two sixth grade classes. One class of forty of these students was the experimental group, which the metacognitive strategic lesson model was applied, and the other class of forty students was the control group which the traditional lessons were conducted. As the result of the experiment, the experimental group and the control group, which previously did not show difference in terms of achievement of conceptualizing magnetic field, displayed a significant difference. According to the comparison between the pre-experiment test on the students' previous concepts and the achievement of the students after the experiment, the middle group showed difference between the experimental group and the control group in a small degree. The lower group showed a notable difference between the two groups and the higher group showed no difference. In terms of achievements shown in different questions asked, there was little difference in the questions that were stated in the textbook while there was a significant difference in the questions that applied the contents of the textbook. The higher academic group, according to the test on the previous concepts, did not show much difference between the experimental group and the control group when they were asked about the concepts of the textbook. In terms of the comparison in the metacognitive levels, both the higher and lower metacognitive experimental groups' average grade was higher than the control groups' and showed an important statistical difference.

        대학생 복식 현상에 나타난 상징성 연구

        The purpose of this study was to analyze the classification and meaning of symbols, of the clothes of the college students by sex-roll theory and identity theory. The clothes analyzed in this study were collected by photographs which were taken in the campus (240 out of 1,000 pictures) of the several colleges and universities in Seoul form fall in 1993 to summer in 1994. The results were as follows: 1. Analysis as a symbol of sexuality. The phenomenon of the visual inconsistency and consistency of sexual image in dress were showed simultaneously. The clothes of male students were generally becoming feminine style in materials and colors of clothes. These suggested that sex-roll theory be applied to their clothes. 2. Analysis as symbols of identification or individuality. The identification of shoes, bags, accessories, and hair styles were prominent than that of clothes. When it was analyzed as a symbol of individuality, the college students seemed to act as fashion leaders, who accepted new fashions and tried them on first. Theses suggested that Erikson's theory on identity be applied to their clothes. 3. Analysis as a symbol of emblem. The dissimilarities of between the college students and other groups in the same generation were bright and casual attire with files, books, and sack. 4. Analysis as a symbol of campus ceremony. The clothes of college students on campus ceremonies were more casual and flexible than those of other groups in the same generation. It was known that the symbols showed above were reflected on their clothes as "one's expressions" which are sex-roll, identity, and characteristics of college students.

        초등학교 과학수업에서 교사의 학습 동기 전략 분석

        The purpose of this study was to define teachers' learning motivation strategies and students' responses by analyzing science classes and interviews. The subjects were first grade and sixth grade teachers and students of an elementary school. The analysis tools are based on Keller's ARCS theory. The differences of teachers' motivation strategies were analyzed by grades and teachers' and students' backgrounds. The interviewers were composed of three teachers and three students of first grade, and three teachers and three students of sixth grade. The data were collected by recording of the classes using tape recorders, video cameras, and notebooks written by researchers. The results are as follows. First, teachers had their own styles of teaching strategies in their classes. Especially teachers' teaching backgrounds affected on the teachers' instructional strategies. The teachers who had long teaching experiences of lower grade students used to show a lot of attention strategies. While the teachers with long teaching experiences of higher grade students used to show few learning motivation strategies. Especially, sixth grade teachers used to show fewer confidence strategies than first grade teachers. Second, all of the teachers used to show few satisfaction strategies commonly in all the classes observed. Third, the students' recognition of the motivation strategies were not different according to their conceptions or activities of the classes. Commonly first grade students focused on the attention strategies, while sixth grade students focused on negative motivation strategies. Fourth, the teachers who believed that students need detail guidance and control recognized the needs of satisfaction strategies by students' autononmous activities after observing video tapes of other teachers' classes.

        Emphysematous cholecystitis is an unusual variant of acute cholecystitis caused by gas-forming organisms. It is characterized by the presence of gas in the gall bladder lumen, wall or pericholecystic tissues. It is thought to be a rare but life-threatening disease with high morbidity and mortality rates than those for other types of acute cholecystitis. Management of emphysematous cholecystitis is surgical removal of gallbladder. Recently, percutaneous cholecystostomy drainage is employed in patients with complications such as perforation and in those who have high surgical risk. It is demonstrated to lower the surgical mortality rates, but it still does not obviate the need for surgical removal of the gallbladder. Percutaneous cholecystostomy may be used for definite therapeutic procedure of emphysematous cholecystitis and we report a case of emphysematous cholecystitis that was cured by the percutaneous cholecystotomy without surgical procedure.         Change of connexin 37 in allergen-induced airwayinflammation

        Gap junction channels formed with connexins directly link to the cytoplasm of adjacent cells and have been implicated in intercellular signaling. Connexin 37 (Cx37) is expressed in the gas-exchange region of the lung. Recently, Cx37 has been reported to be involved in the pathogenesis of inflammatory disease. However, no data are available on the role of Cx37 in allergic airway inflammatory disease. In the present study, we used a murine model of ovalbumin (OVA)- induced allergic airway disease and primary murine epithelial cells to examine the change of Cx37 in allergic airway disease. These mice develop the following typical pathophysiological features of asthma: airway hyperresponsiveness, airway inflammation, and increased IL-4, IL-5, IL-13, intercellular adhesion molecule- 1, vascular cell adhesion molecule-1, eotaxin, and RANTES levels in lungs. Cx37 protein and mRNA expression were decreased in OVA-induced allergic airway disease. Immunoreactive Cx37 localized in epithelial layers around the bronchioles in control mice, which dramatically disappeared in allergen-induced asthmatic lungs. Moreover, the levels of Cx37 protein in lung tissues showed significantly negative correlations with airway inflammation, airway responsiveness, and levels of Th2 cytokines in lungs. These findings indicate that change of Cx37 may be associated with the asthma phenotype.

        Rayleigh-Backscattering-Suppressed Two-Way Quantum Key Distribution

        This paper reports, a detailed experimental study of the Rayleigh backscattering eects on single-mode bers (SMFs) fabricated by dierent vendors and on the quantum eciencies of an InGaAs/InP single-photon avalanche detector (SPAD). An optimization process for the input laser power to achieve negligible backscattering-induced error in a plug-and-play type two-way quantum key distribution (QKD) scheme was determined for a SMF transmission of 25 km. Based on this process, we have demonstrated 2 kbit/s quantum interference counts with 1-MHz optical pulses transmitted over the 25-km SMF, which allows a 1-kbit/s raw quantum key generation based on the BB84 protocol to be enabled. The measured QBER was less than 3 %.

      • Injection Laser Wavelength-Dependent Timing Jitter Reduction of Gain-Switched Single-Mode VCSELs

        <P>We report the effect of an external injection laser wavelength on reducing the timing jitter of optical pulses generated from gain-switched single-mode 1.5-μm vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs). Simultaneous timing jitter reduction, pulse width shortening, and spectral linewidth narrowing without any peak power penalty were observed when the injection laser wavelength was tuned near the spectral peak of the free-running VCSELs spectrum operating in a continuous wave mode. The timing jitter was reduced up to 40% of that without any injection.</P>

        <P>All-optical set-reset flip-flop operations of conventional circular cylindrical-shaped 1.55-μm wavelength single-mode vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) have been demonstrated at a switching frequency of 1 GHz based on polarization bistability observed via injection current variation. The energy of set and reset pulses was lower than 4.5 fJ at a bias current of the VCSEL of 4 mA. Polarization bistable VCSELs will be useful for high-speed optical signal processing applications.</P>

      • A novel method for measuring continuous dispersion spectrum of electro-optic coefficients of nonlinear materials

        <P>We report, for the first time to our knowledge, a novel and simple method for measuring continuous dispersion spectrum of unclamped linear electro-optic (EO) coefficient using a white-light interferometry. This method detects phase changes of the interference patterns with and without an applied electric voltage, and allows a simultaneous measurement of wavelength and polarization dependent EO coefficients of birefringent materials. Both of the unclamped EO coefficients, r(13) (T) and r(33) (T), of a congruent LiNbO(3) (LN) crystal have been measured simultaneously with the method, and their continuous dispersion curves have been also obtained.</P>

        Luteolin 8-C-β-fucopyranoside downregulates IL-6 expression by inhibiting MAPKs and the NF-κB signaling pathway in human monocytic cells

        <P>Numerous studies have been suggested that derivatives can improve the effects of original substances. Therefore, we made luteolin derivative luteolin 8-C-beta-fucopyranoside (LU8C-FP) for better anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer effects. In a previous study, we demonstrated that LU8C-FP inhibits invasion of human breast cancer cells via suppression of matrix metalloproteinase 9 and IL-8, which play major roles in tumor progression and cancer cell invasion. Various stimuli trigger inflammatory responses by inducing pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines in THP-1 cells. IL-6 induces inflammation via inducing various cytokines and appears to be a potential mediator of inflammatory diseases. Here, we investigated the precise mechanism by which LU8C-FP inhibited phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate-induced IL-6 mRNA and protein expression. We showed LU8C-FP down-regulated IL-6 expression by inhibiting mitogen-activated protein kinases and the nuclear factor-kappaB signaling pathway in human monocytic cells. Furthermore, LU8C-FP exerts less cytotoxicity than luteolin and also it has specific inhibitory effect on IL-6 expression. However, luteolin has a variety of inhibitory effects on pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines.
