Monte Carlo calculation of dosimetry parameters for the IR08-P103d brachytherapy source : Dosimetry parameters for the IR08-P103d brachytherapy

        Saidi, Pooneh,Sadeghi, Mahdi,Shirazi, Alireza,Tenreiro, Claudio Wiley (John WileySons) 2010 Medical physics Vol.37 No.6

<P>PURPOSE: For the treatment of some cancerous tumors using brachytherapy methods and low-energy photon sources, such as 125I and 103Pd, the American Association of Physicists in Medicine Task Group No. 43U1 report recommends that the dosimetric parameters of a new brachytherapy source must be determined in two experimental and Monte Carlo theoretical methods before using each new source clinically. This study presents the results of Monte Carlo calculations of the dosimetric parameters for IR08-103Pd brachytherapy source design. IR08-103Pd seed has been manufactured at the Agricultural, Medical and Industrial Research School. METHODS: Version 5 of the (MCNP) Monte Carlo radiation transport code was used to calculate the dosimetry parameters around the source. Three geometric models of the seed, based on different locations of beads inside the titanium capsule, were simulated. The seed contains five resin beads of 0.6 mm diameter having 103Pd uniformly absorbed in the bead volume, which were contained within a cylindrical titanium capsule having 0.8 mm outside diameter and 4.8 mm length. RESULTS: The Monte Carlo calculated dose rate constant of the IR08-103Pd seed was found to be 0.695 +/- 0.021 cGyU(-1) h(-1). Also in this study, the geometry function G(r, theta), line and point-source radial dose functions gL(r) and gP(r), and the anisotropy function F(r, theta), have been calculated at distances from 0.25 to 7 cm. The results of these calculations have been compared with measured values for an actual IR08-103Pd seed. CONCLUSIONS: There are no statistical significant dosimetric differences among the three seed orientations in this study (i.e., ideal, vertical, and diagonal). However, the observed differences between the calculated and measured values could be explained by the measurement uncertainty and the configuration of the resin beads within the capsule and capsule orientation.</P>

Genetic Diversity and Morphological Variations of Goosegrass [Eleusine indica (L.) Gaertn] Ecotypes in Malaysia

Saidi, Nazreen,Kadir, Jugah,Hong, Lau Wei The Korean Society of Weed ScienceThe Turfgrass So 2016 Weed & Turfgrass Science Vol.5 No.3

Goosegrass [Eleusine indica (L.) Gaertn] has been a nuisance to growers in Malaysia due to its increased resistance to commercial herbicides, rapid growth and dissemination, and interference with agricultural practices. In the course of developing an apt integrated management to control goosegrass, more information of this weed is needed. The aim of this study was to look into variations among the goosegrass ecotypes sampled throughout Malaysia from the aspects of genotype and phenotype. Sequence-related amplified polymorphism (SRAP) markers were employed in investigating the genetic diversity and relationships among the 18 goosegrass ecotypes. Consequently, 5 primer combinations amplified 13 fragments with the polymorphism rate of 69.23%. At 74% similarity, the ecotypes were clustered into 6 groups. Phenotypic variability of the goosegrass ecotypes was assessed by observing their morphology, growth and seed traits. Goosegrass ecotypes were sorted into 3 major groups at the genetic distance (DIST) of 0.37. Concurrences of the evaluated genetic distance, ecotypes with the closest and most distant relationships were assembled together in Group I which showed high variation even among ecotypes in the same group. Results obtained thus implied high molecular and morphological variations of the goosegrass ecotypes in Malaysia.

A simple hyperbolic shear deformation theory for vibration analysis of thick functionally graded rectangular plates resting on elastic foundations

        Saidi, Hayat,Tounsi, Abdelouahed,Bousahla, Abdelmoumen Anis Techno-Press 2016 Geomechanics & engineering Vol.11 No.2

A simple hyperbolic shear deformation theory taking into account transverse shear deformation effects is proposed for the free flexural vibration analysis of thick functionally graded plates resting on elastic foundations. By considering further supposition, the present formulation introduces only four unknowns and its governing equations are therefore reduced. Hamilton's principle is employed to obtain equations of motion and Navier-type analytical solutions for simply-supported plates are compared with the available solutions in literature to check the accuracy of the proposed theory. Numerical results are computed to examine the effects of the power-law index and side-to-thickness ratio on the natural frequencies.

Inequality of Opportunity and Degree of Human Development: Evidence from Tunisia

Saidi Anis,Hamdaoui Mekki,Ochi Anis 중앙대학교 경제연구소 2021 Journal of Economic Development Vol.46 No.1

There are many socio-economic factors beyond the individual control that can affect human development indicators. In this setting, this paper aims to examine the effects and evolution of unequal opportunities on the distribution of human development indicators embodied by monetary well-being (consumption) and education in Tunisia for the period 2005-2010. We used parametric and non-parametric approach in addition to Dissimilarity-Index and Shapley’s Decomposition to identify most important factors explaining inequality of chances in Tunisia. We found that Father’s education, residence area, and connection to drinking water appears to be the most important background variables affecting well-being profile. However, child’s sex appears to be the most important determinant of the accessibility to education. Inequality of opportunity in consumption and education persists and tends to increase over time which is undesirable for the country. As an economic implication of our results, policy makers must make appropriate policies to reduce intergenerational transmission of parental background and sex discrimination and to overcome traps of inequality for future generations

Empirical Analysis of the Dynamic Relationships between Transport, ICT and FDI in 63 Countries

Saidi Samir,Haifa Mefteh 한국국제경제학회 2020 International Economic Journal Vol.34 No.3

This study examines the relationship between information and communication technologies (ICT), transport, and foreign direct investment (FDI) in countries with different income levels over the period 2000-2016. We investigate the impact of ICT and transport on territorial attractiveness of FDI in host countries. A global panel of 63 countries has been divided into three sub-panels. Using the GMM estimators, we found that these variables influence each other in the long-run. The causality direction varies across panels with different levels of significance. These empirical investigations are of particular interest to policymakers in both developed and developing countries. They prove the major impact of transport and ICT infrastructures on economic development of host countries through their significant contribution to improve FDI attractiveness. Moreover, the results confirm the positive role of transport and ICTs in supporting economic growth by strengthening countries’ economic openness and increasing their participation in international trade.

Thermo-mechanical bending response with stretching effect of functionally graded sandwich plates using a novel shear deformation theory

Hayat Saidi,Abdelouahed Tounsi,Mohammed Sid Ahmed Houari,El Abbas Adda Bedia 국제구조공학회 2013 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.15 No.2

This paper presents an analytical solution to the thermomechanical bending analysis of functionally graded sandwich plates by using a new hyperbolic shear deformation theory in which the stretching effect is included. The modulus of elasticity of plates is assumed to vary according to a power law distribution in terms of the volume fractions of the constituents. The core layer is still homogeneous and made of an isotropic ceramic material. The effects of functionally graded material (FGM) layer thickness, volume fraction index, layer thickness ratio, thickness ratio and aspect ratio on the deflections and stresses of functionally graded sandwich plates are investigated.

Quality Improvement of Shunt Active Power Filter with Direct Instantaneous Power Estimator Based on Virtual Flux

        Salem Saidi,Rabeh Abbassi,Souad Chebbi 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2016 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.14 No.5

This paper presents a new control strategy which is based on a switching table applied for Virtual FluxDirect Power Control (VF-DPC) of voltage source inverter based shunt active power filter (SAPF). This controlmethod is applied to eliminate harmonic pollution and compensate the reactive power in the presence of nonlinearloads and unbalanced sources. Its main goal is to select switching states of the SAPF converter appropriately basedon a look-up table established by hysteresis controllers acting on the instantaneous error between the commandedand VF-estimated values of active and reactive power. Our method aims to improve the electrical quantity behaviorin steady and dynamic states while reducing the installing cost of the filter through eliminating the AC line voltagesensors. Facing to disturbances affecting the electrical network, a phase locked loop (PLL) has been integrated .Thecontrol strategy proposed for the active filter has been tested in the Matlab/Simulink environment.

        POONEH SAIDI BIDOKHTI,MAHDI SADEGHI,BEHROOZ FATEH,MITRA MATLOOBI,GHOLAMREZA ASLAN 한국원자력학회 2010 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.42 No.5

Rhenium-186, having a half-life of 90.64 h, is an important radionuclide, used in metabolic radiotherapy and radioimmunotherapy. 186Re hydroxyethylidene diphosphonate (HEDP) is a new compound used for the palliation of painful skeletalmetastases. Its production is achieved via charged-particle-induced reactions; the data are available in EXFOR library. For thework discussed in this paper, production of 186Re was done via natW(p,n)186Re nuclear reaction. Pellets of natW were used astargets and were irradiated with 15, 17.5, 20, 22.5, 25 MeV proton beams at 5 µA current. The radiochemical separation wasperformed by the ion exchange chromatography method. The production yield achieved at 25 MeV was 1.91 MBq·µA-1·h-1. Excitation functions for the 186Re radionuclide, via 186W(p,n)186Re and 186W(d,2n)186Re reactions were calculated by ALICE-ASH and TALYS-1.0 codes to validate and fit the experimental data and to obtain a recommended set of data for 186W(p,n)186Re reaction. Required thickness of the targets was obtained by SRIM code for each reaction.
