Choosing Solitude in Turmoil, Herding in the Decentralized Finance (DeFi) Token Market: An International Perspective

Rasim OZCAN(Rasim OZCAN ),Asad ul Islam KHAN(Asad ul Islam KHAN ),Murat TURGUT(Murat TURGUT ),Ayuba NAPARI(Ayuba NAPARI ) 한국유통과학회 2022 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.9 No.9

Financial markets have long been known to be prone to behavioral biases. One such behavioural bias that is consequential yet pervasive in financial markets is the herd effect. The objective of this study is to determine whether or not there exist herd behaviour in the new and bourgeoning Decentralized Finance (DeFi) Tokens market. This is accomplished by using daily returns of 22 DeFi tokens from January 29, 2017 to August 19, 2021, and the Cross-sectional Absolute Deviation (CSAD) of market returns to capture herd behavior. The results fail to provide any evidence of herding in the DeFi token market on bullish days, that is days for which the average market returns is positive. For bearish days however, that is days for which the market returns is negative, our empirical findings point to the presence of adverse herding in the DeFi token market. This phenomenon can be explained to some extent by the investor composition of the DeFi market. The DeFi token space is a growth market dominated by experts and/or enthusiasts who are insulated against the temptation and panic of negative market swings by the level of market and technical information they possess on the assets they invest.

Pharmacotherapy and regional cerebral blood flow in children with obsessive compulsive disorder

        Rasim Somer Diler,Mustafa Kibar,Ayse Avci 연세대학교의과대학 2004 Yonsei medical journal Vol.45 No.1

While regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) studies on adults involving the caudate, prefrontal, orbitofrontal, and cingulated areas have been reported, no such published data on children exist. In this study, we aimed to determine the significance of pre- and post-treatment regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) differences in children with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and compared them with healthy controls. Eighteen drug-free obsessive compulsive children, aged 11 to 15, without comorbid states except for anxiety disorders - participated in this study. The control group consisted of 12 children, aged 11 to 15, with no medical or psychiatric illnesses. Using SPECT (Single Photon Emission Computerized Tomography) scans with Technetium-99m-HMPAO-hexamethly propyleneamine oxime (Tc99mHMPAO), the rCBF was calculated in 15 regions of the control group according to a standard protocol, while in the study group, it was measured at baseline and after 12 weeks of treatment with a fixed dose of paroxetine (20 mg qd). We compared the resulting pre- and post-treatment CBF values for the control group and study group. The right and left caudates, right and left dorsolateral prefrontals, and cingulate had significantly higher rCBF in children with obsessive compulsive disorder than in the control group. These areas, in addition to the right anteromedial temporal, showed significant rCBF reduction after treatment with paroxetine. The mean percentage of change in obsession scores during the treatment correlated significantly with the baseline and post- treatment rCBF level of the right caudate, post-treatment left caudate, and baseline left caudate. Our findings on children are consistent with adult studies and support the theory of a cortical-striatal-thalamic-cortical loop disturbance in OCD.

Production of translucent ceramics containing diopsideakermanite phases by fast firing

Rasim Ceylantekin 한양대학교 세라믹연구소 2012 Journal of Ceramic Processing Research Vol.13 No.4

In this study, research was made on the production of white and translucent ceramics with a low water absorption and high resistance using waste dolomitic sepiolite, cullet and calcite through fast firing under operational conditions. For this purpose, 4 different recipes were prepared. The recipes were first dry ground and shaped with a dry pressing method. The shaped samples were then fired in a fast firing kiln at 1140 ο C for 70 minutes. Strength, water absorption, porosity and color measurements were made on the fired samples as well as mineralogical and microstructural examinations. Consequently, diopside and amorphous phases and diopside and akermanite based ceramic structures were produced using the waste materials through fast firing at 1140 ο C. L* values of the fired samples were found to be between 92.30 and 95.40. In the samples with the akermanite and diopside phases, the ratio of dissolution was found to be higher in acids than samples containing the diopside and amorphous phases. Consequently, highly white and translucent ceramics with a low water absorption capacity were obtained using the waste materials used through fast firing.

Teaching learning-based optimization for design of cantilever retaining walls

Rasim Temür,Gebrail Bekdaş 국제구조공학회 2016 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.57 No.4

A methodology based on Teaching Learning-Based Optimization (TLBO) algorithm is proposed for optimum design of reinforced concrete retaining walls. The objective function is to minimize total material cost including concrete and steel per unit length of the retaining walls. The requirements of the American Concrete Institute (ACI 318-05-Building code requirements for structural concrete) are considered for reinforced concrete (RC) design. During the optimization process, totally twenty-nine design constraints composed from stability, flexural moment capacity, shear strength capacity and RC design requirements such as minimum and maximum reinforcement ratio, development length of reinforcement are checked. Comparing to other nature-inspired algorithm, TLBO is a simple algorithm without parameters entered by users and self-adjusting ranges without intervention of users. In numerical examples, a retaining wall taken from the documented researches is optimized and the several effects (backfill slope angle, internal friction angle of retaining soil and surcharge load) on the optimum results are also investigated in the study. As a conclusion, TLBO based methods are feasible.

        Guldiken, Rasim,Makaram, Prashanth,Bakhtari, Kaveh,Park, Jingoo,Busnaina, Ahmed A. Wiley Subscription Services, Inc., A Wiley Company 2007 Microscopy research and technique Vol.70 No.6

<P>A new technique is proposed for the scanning and detection of nanoparticles on flat substrates and three-dimensional structures using fluorescence microscopy. This technique is utilized for particle removal measurements especially in semiconductor and hard disk manufacturing. This fluorescent particle scanning technique enables nanoscale particle detection. The technique shows that single particles down to 63 nm could be detected and counted. The technique is also capable of detecting particles in trenches that are as deep as 500 μm. Microsc. Res. Tech., 2007. © 2007 Wiley-Liss, Inc.</P>

Resource Constrained Project Scheduling by Harmony Search Algorithm

Omer Giran,Rasim Temur,Gebrail Bekdaş 대한토목학회 2017 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.21 No.2

The construction industry is nonhomogeneous and also managing construction projects are more difficult in today's world. Construction projects are huge and contractors want to accomplish them within a short time in this fast changing era. Therefore, the time and resource have to be managed for a successful construction project management. Resource leveling is one of the primary tools used for managing resources. The target is leveling the resources within a minimum time period to complete the project successfully. Resource constrained project scheduling problems (RCPSP) are a Non-deterministic Polynomial-time hard (NP-hard) problem therefore heuristic methods can be used to solve it. This paper presents a harmony search method for solving the RCPSP. In order to compare the performance of the developed software three examples were chosen from the literature. Computational results indicate that the harmony search method is more effective, rapid and suitable for the RCPSP than existing solutions.

        Teratogenicity of Antiepileptic Drugs

        Betül Tekin Güveli,Rasim Özgür Rosti,Alper Güzeltaş,Elif Bahar Tuna,Dilek Ataklı,Serra Sencer,Ensar Yekeler,Hülya Kayserili,Ahmet Dirican,Nerses Bebek,Betül Baykan,Ayşen Gökyiğit,Candan Gürses 대한정신약물학회 2017 CLINICAL PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY AND NEUROSCIENCE Vol.15 No.1

Objective: Antiepileptic drugs (AED) have chronic teratogenic effects, the most common of which are congenital heart disease, cleft lip/palate, urogenital and neural tube defects. The aim of our study is to examine teratogenic effects of AED and the correlation between these malformations and AED in single or multiple pregnancies. Methods: This is a retrospective study of malformations in children born to mothers currently followed up by our outpatient clinics who used or discontinued AED during their pregnancy. Their children were then investigated using echocardiography, urinary ultrasound, cranial magnetic resonance image, and examined by geneticists and pediatric dentists. Results: One hundred and seventeen children were included in the study. Ninety one of these children were exposed to AED during pregnancy. The most commonly used AED were valproic acid and carbamazepine in monotherapy. The percentage of major anomaly was 6.8% in all children. Dysmorphic features and dental anomalies were observed more in children exposed especially to valproic acid. There were 26 mothers with two and four mothers with three pregnancies from the same fathers. No correlation was found between the distribution of malformations in recurring pregnancies and AED usage. Conclusion: Our study has the highest number of dysmorphism examined in literature, found in all the children exposed to valproic acid, which may account for the higher rate of facial dysmorphism and dental anomalies. On lower doses of valproic acid, major malformations are not seen, although the risk increases with polytherapy. Our data also indicate possible effects of genetic and environmental factors on malformations.

Analysis of trusses by total potential optimization method coupled with harmony search

        Toklu, Yusuf Cengiz,Bekdas, Gebrail,Temur, Rasim Techno-Press 2013 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.45 No.2

Current methods of analysis of trusses depend on matrix formulations based on equilibrium equations which are in fact derived from energy principles, and compatibility conditions. Recently it has been shown that the minimum energy principle, by itself, in its pure and unmodified form, can well be exploited to analyze structures when coupled with an optimization algorithm, specifically with a meta-heuristic algorithm. The resulting technique that can be called Total Potential Optimization using Meta-heuristic Algorithms (TPO/MA) has already been applied to analyses of linear and nonlinear plane trusses successfully as coupled with simulated annealing and local search algorithms. In this study the technique is applied to both 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional trusses emphasizing robustness, reliability and accuracy. The trials have shown that the technique is robust in two senses: all runs result in answers, and all answers are acceptable as to the reliability and accuracy within the prescribed limits. It has also been shown that Harmony Search presents itself as an appropriate algorithm for the purpose.

A Cytogenetic Study in 120 Turkish Children with Intellectual Disability and Characteristics of Fragile X Syndrome

        Osman Demirhan,Deniz Ta?temir,Rasim Somer Diler,Sunay Fırat,Ayse Avcı 연세대학교의과대학 2003 Yonsei medical journal Vol.44 No.4

We review the evidence for the frequency of the fragile X syndrome (FXS), other X-linked abnormalities, and other chromosomal disabilities of Turkish pediatric psychiatry outpatients with intellectual disability. Reported clinical features and genetic findings were used in cytogenetic screenings to estimate the prevalence of the fragile X (fra X) and other chromosomal aberrations in 120 patients with mental retardation, language disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity, or developmental delay, in comparison with 30 healthy children. Data on the clinical, intellectual and behavioral findings in 14 fra X positive children (11.7%) is presented. Ten of the 120 patients (8.3%) had enlargement of the heterochromatin region of chromosome 9. Other chromosomal aberrations and autosomal fragile sites (FS) were also observed. There was a statistically significant difference in the autosomal and X-linked FS between the study and control groups (p<0.05). The tests for the fra X chromosome are likely to be of diagnostic benefit in young children with autism or developmental delay, particularly in speech, and who have large and prominent ears.
