Role of Cytocentrifugation Combined with Nuclear Fast Picroindigocarmine Staining in Detecting Cryptozoospermia in Men Diagnosed with Azoospermia

        Sharma Rakesh Kumar,Gupta Sajal,Agarwal Ashok,Finelli Renata,Kuroda Shinnosuke,Saleh Ramadan,Boitrelle Florence,Kavoussi Parviz,Gül Murat,Tadros Nicholas,Ko Edmund,Farkouh Ala’a,Henkel Ralf,Arafa Moha 대한남성과학회 2022 The World Journal of Men's Health Vol.40 No.4

Purpose: Azoospermia is defined as the absence of spermatozoa in the pellet of a centrifuged semen sample. In fact, when a basic semen analysis fails to detect sperm in the ejaculate, there is still the possibility of detecting rare sperm after centrifugation of the sample and examination of the pellet. In this study, we assessed the role of Cytospin centrifugation in combination with the nuclear fast picroindigocarmine (NF-PIC) staining in identifying sperm in azoospermic samples. Materials and Methods: Semen samples of 251 men diagnosed as having azoospermia after standard examination were further analyzed by Cytospin centrifugation in combination with NF-PIC staining. Results: Sperm were detected in 60 men (23.9%), thus changing their diagnosis to cryptozoospermia. Conclusions: By identifying sperm in the semen of men who were thought to have total azoospermia, the Cytospin NF-PIC test can alter the diagnosis and further treatment of these men.

Can a brief period of double J stenting improve the outcome of extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy for renal calculi sized 1 to 2 cm?

        Rakesh Sharma,Arpan Choudhary,Ranjit Kumar Das,Supriya Basu,Ranjan Kumar Dey,Rupesh Gupta,Partha Pratim Deb 대한비뇨의학회 2017 Investigative and Clinical Urology Vol.58 No.2

Purpose: Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) is an established modality for renal calculi. Its role for large stones is being questioned. A novel model of temporary double J (DJ) stenting followed by ESWL was devised and outcomes were assessed. Materials and Methods: The study included 95 patients with renal calculi sized 1 to 2 cm. Patients were randomized into 3 groups. Group 1 received ESWL only, whereas group 2 underwent stenting followed by ESWL. In group 3, a distinct model was applied in which the stent was kept for 1 week and then removed, followed by ESWL. Procedural details, analgesic requirements, and outcome were analyzed. Results: Eighty-eight patients (male, 47; female, 41) were available for analysis. The patients' mean age was 37.9±10.9 years. Stone profile was similar among groups. Group 3 received fewer shocks (mean, 3,155) than did group 1 (mean, 3,859; p=0.05) or group 2 (mean, 3,872; p=0.04). The fragmentation rate was similar in group 3 (96.7%) and groups 1 (81.5%, p=0.12) and 2 (87.1%, p=0.16). Overall clearance in group 3 was significantly improved (83.3%) compared with that in groups 1 (63.0%, p=0.02) and 2 (64.5%, p=0.02) and was maintained even in lower pole stones. The percentage successful outcome in groups 1, 2, and 3 was 66.7%, 64.5%, and 83.3%, respectively (p=0.21). The analgesic requirement in group 2 was higher than in the other groups (p=0.00). Group 2 patients also had more grade IIIa (2/3) and IIIB (1/2) complications. Conclusions: Stenting adversely affects stone clearance and also makes the later course uncomfortable. Our model of brief stenting followed by ESWL provided better clearance, comfort, and a modest improvement in outcome with fewer sittings and steinstrasse in selected patients with large renal calculi.

Soluble Polyarylates Based on Methyl-substituted Bisphenols Containing Pendent Biphenyl Moiety: Synthesis, Characterization, and Thermal Properties

Rakesh K. Sharma 한국섬유공학회 2021 Fibers and polymers Vol.22 No.10

A series of polyarylates (PARs) containing pendent biphenyl moiety was synthesized via interfacial polycondensation polymerization from a mixture of three aromatic diols (4,4'-[1-(4-biphenylyl)ethylidene] bisphenol (BBP), 4,4'-[1-(4-biphenylyl)ethylidene]-bis,3-methyphenol (oBBP) and 4,4'-[1-(4-biphenylyl)ethylidene]bis,3,5-dimethylphenol (dmBBP)) with molar equivalent of terephthaloyl chloride (TC). The synthesized PARs (coded as BBP-TC, oBBP-TC, and dmBBP-TC) showed excellent thermal properties and solubility in common organic solvents as the incorporation of pendent biphenyl moiety. The inherent viscosity of PARs was in the range of 0.50-0.71 dl/g, while the number average molecular weights (Mn) were found in the range of 30,213-35,112 g/mol. All the PARs showed glass transition temperatures (Tgs) between 201 oC to 278 oC. The oBBP-TC observed low Tg as containing asymmetric dimethyl substitution, while other BBPTC and dmBBP-TC were found normal Tgs due to symmetrical structure with and without methyl substitution. The 10 % weight loss degradation temperatures of PARs were found to be in the range of 395-423 oC. X-ray diffraction studies of polyesters showed that all the PARs were amorphous. The mechanical and optical properties of films were also analyzed to understand the desirability of PARs in further applicability. With regards to its solubility, thermal stability, mechanical properties, and optical properties, these PARs may be considered as a promising material in the field of processable highperformance engineering.

        Rakesh Kumar Sharma,Raman Chawla,Rajesh Arora,Shikha Singh,Ravinder Kumar Sagar,Raj Kumar,Ashok Sharma,Manju L. Gupta,Surender Singh,Jagdish Prasad,Haider A. Khan,Anand Swaroop,A.K. Sinha,A.K. Gupta,R 한국식품영양과학회 2007 Journal of medicinal food Vol.10 No.1

Plants are an abundant source of medicinal compounds, some of which are useful in combating free radical-1002 (flavonoid-poor fraction) of Hippophae rhamnoideswere screened on the basis of their reducing power in the aqueousphase. REC-1001 was selected for further study, since it exhibited 27.38 times higher antioxidant activity than REC-1002.REC-1001 also showed significant (P. .05) membrane protection potential at 50 .g/mL, which was attributed to its abilityto scavenge peroxyl radicals (64.82. 1.25% scavenging within 1,440 min). A significant (P. .05) difference of 67.02% infree radical scavenging activity at 1,000 ng/mL between REC-1001 and vitamin E demonstrated the extract fraction’s worthc-tion. Further, REC-1001 was found to be nontoxic up to 200 mg/kg of body weight. This research suggests that the REC-1001 fraction of H. rhamnoidesextract is a safe and effective antioxidant nutraceutical product.

        Thermal transport and its structure dependence in ZnxSe100?x (x = 10, 20, 40 and 50) alloys

        Rakesh Sharma,S.N. Dolia,T.P. Sharma,N.S. Saxena 한국물리학회 2006 Current Applied Physics Vol.6 No.5

Simultaneous measurements of eective thermal conductivity (ke) and eective thermal diusivity (ve) of twin pellets ofZnxSe100. x (x . 433 MPa), havebeen made at room temperature using transient plane source (TPS) technique. From the measured values ofke and ve specic heatper unit volume (Cp) has been calculated. The results indicate that both the values ofke and ve increase linearly with increasing Znconcentration. Similar toke and ve, theCp also shows a linear increase with the increase in Zn concentration. This behaviour ofkeand ve with increasing Zn concentration can be explained using structural information obtained from X-ray diraction (XRD) ofthese materials and also using the change in the nature of bond from covalent to iono-covalent in this system. Comparative XRDstudies for structural investigation of ZnxSe100. x (x = 10 and 40) have also been discussed. An eort has also been made to predictvalues ofke,ve and calculated values ofCp.

Black Carbon Concentration during Spring Season at High Altitude Urban Center in Eastern Himalayan Region of India

        Khushboo Sharma,Rakesh Kumar Ranjan,Sargam Lohar,Jayant Sharma,Rajeev Rajak,Aparna Gupta,Amit Prakash,Alok Kumar Pandey 한국대기환경학회 2022 Asian Journal of Atmospheric Environment (AJAE) Vol.16 No.1

This study analyzed the BC associated with PM1 and the contribution of biomass burning to the BC using a portable seven-channel Dual spot Aethalometer in and around Gangtok, the capital city of Sikkim, India, during April 2021. Additionally, CO2 and meteorological parameters (Temperature, Pressure, and Relative Humidity) was measured. The minimum concentration of BC was found in rural areas where the contribution of biomass burning to the BC is highest. The observed spatial variability of BC over Gangtok Municipal Corporation (GMC) area is minimal. Five days back-trajectory analysis was done using the Hybrid Single Particle Lagrangian Integrated Trajectory (HYSPLIT) model to understand the regional influences of air masses at Gangtok. The air mass of the studied region is under influence of trans-regional transport from Indo-Gangetic Plains affecting the BC concentration over the studied region. The black carbon presence in the ambient air near the glacier heights in the Eastern Himalayan region may significantly cause localized warming, thereby enhancing glacier melts. The results have significant bearing for the policy-makers to take corrective steps in addressing the issue of rising BC concentration in high altitude regions. A further detailed study is needed to examine the effect of BC on radiative forcing and its large-scale effect on the East Asian summer monsoon using regional climate models.
