        The final goal of our work is to develop a Lattice Boltzmann Method (LBM) analysis code for generalized coordinate system. As a first step, in this paper the developed code is validated/verified for well-known benchmark problems such as a 2-D lid-driven cavity flow, Couette flow, Poiseuille flow by using Cartesian coordinates. Throughout this paper D2Q9 lattice modeling is employed. The features of boundary conditions are also discussed.

        Influence of ball milling time on structural stability and distribution of CNTs in aluminium matrix composites

        Carbon Nanotubes (CNTs) are considered as an ideal reinforcement to improve the properties of the Aluminium (Al) matrix composites. Even though a significant improvement in mechanical, thermal and electrical properties obtained in Al-CNT composites, there are still several challenges to get uniform dispersion in the matrix and interfacial bonding between CNTs and Al matrix. The objective of the present work is to study the influence of ball milling time on structural stability and distribution of CNTs in Al matrix. The fabricated composite powders morphology like grain size and CNT structural quality were analyzed using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Raman spectroscope. It was found that the 6 hrs of ball milling is an effective way to achieve homogeneous distribution of CNTs in Al matrix. The highest hardness value of 77.4 Hv was obtained at 6 hrs ball milling time and subsequently the hardness was reduced to 46.2 Hv at 12 hrs. The reduced hardness of Al-CNT composites may be attributed to lower structural qualities of CNTs with longer milling time. This is evident from the ID/IG values of 0.92 and 1.04 for the 6 hrs and 12 hrs ball milled composites respectively

        Effect of Mg/Co on the properties of CdS thin films deposited by spray pyrolysis technique

        Mg, Co doped and (Mg, Co) co-doped CdS thin films were prepared using chemical spray pyrolysis method. It is observed from the X-ray diffraction study that the deposited film exhibit cubic phase of CdS with preferred orientation along the (111) plane and incorporation of Mg and Co has been confirmed form energy dispersive analysis and XPS analysis as well. The doped and codoped CdS thin films exhibit 1LO and 2LO vibrations as confirmed by Raman spectrum. The core level XPS spectra ensures the incorporation of doping elements precisely. The morphological variations due to the incorporation of Co and Mg in CdS thin films have been observed by FE-SEM. The particle sizes and crystalline nature have been revealed from HRTEM images and corresponding SAED patterns. The co-doped CdS thin films show a significant shift blue in absorption spectrum. Improved magnetic properties have been observed for the co-doped CdS thin films

      • Quantitative Analysis of Degummed Calophyllum Inophyllum Oil

        The chemical properties of biodiesel fuel are much depends upon the fatty ester composition. The Calophyllum inophyllum seed oil without purification in crude stage and purified Calophyllum inophyllum oil in degummed stage were studied. The Crude Calophyllum Inophyllum Oil (CCIO) and Degummed Calophyllum Inophyllum Oil (DCIO) was the test samples considered for fatty acid quantitative analysis. The composition of fatty acids was identified by using Gas Chromatography (GC) to quantitative the test samples. In the results, the higher percentage presence of straight chain saturated fatty acid (palmitic) and unsaturated fatty acid (linoleic and oleic) has identified in the CCIO sample. By Degumming process, the percentage level of saturated fatty acid Palmitic diminished and unsaturated fatty acid Linoleic increased respectively; also the lesser amount formation of saturated fatty acid Capric, but unsaturated fatty acid Oleic and saturated fatty acid Myristic was completely removed.

        Numerical And Experimental Study Of Single stage And Multistage Centrifugal Mixed Flow Submersible Borewell Pumps

        This paper focuses on the single stage and multistage performance characteristics of centrifugal mixed flow submersible borewell pump. This study reveals that the performance of single stage pump is higher than that of multistage pumps. The head, input power and efficiency of single stage pump are higher than the per stage head, per stage input power and efficiency of multistage pumps. This study is divided into three parts. In the first part, five prototype pumps were made in single stage and multistage construction and the performance tests were conducted. In the second part, numerical validation has been done for different turbulence models and grid sizes. k-Omega SST model has been selected for the performance simulation and was validated with the performance of the test pump with static pressure tappings. In the third part, single and three stage pump performance were simulated numerically and compared with experimental results. The detailed analysis of pressure and velocity distributions reveals the difference in performance of single and three stage pump, due to non-uniform flow and difference in averaged flow velocities at the subsequent impeller inlets except the 1st stage impeller inlet.

        Synthesis and electrochemical investigation of hetero bimetallic complexes CoMn2O4 micro rods for novel supercapacitor electrode

        Supercapacitors have been emerging tool with high power density in energy storage system. The energy storage capabilityof supercapacitors depends on electrochemical performance of transition metal oxide based electrode materials. Becauseof the co-existence of two metal ions and synergistic eff ects of elements, binary metal oxides, AB 2 O 4 (A or B = Ni, Co,Mo, Mn, and so on), have more active reaction sites and high electrical conductivity than other binary transition metaloxides. To improve the best electrochemical performance, cobalt manganese oxide (CoMn 2 O 4 ) is synthesized via simplehydrothermal method. The CoMn 2 O 4 rod is characterized to analyse its crystalline structure, functional group vibrations,surface morphology and elemental conformations. The electrochemical performance of CoMn 2 O 4 is analysed using cyclicvoltammetry, galvano-static charge–discharge and electrochemical impedance spectrum techniques. The cyclic voltammetryresult reveals that pseudo capacitive behaviour of CoMn 2 O 4 compound. The charge–discharge cycling stability of CoMn 2 O 4rod is analysed in 5 A g −1 up to 10,000 cycles. Asymmetric supercapacitor is fabricated using CoMn 2 O 4 || Activated Carbonwhich also obeys pseudo capacitive behaviour. The energy density is analysed as 28.7 Wh kg −1 at current density 1 mA forasymmetric supercapacitor device.

      • Trihalomethane formation potential of drinking water sources in a rural location

        Trihalomethanes, produced as a result of chlorination of drinking water, are considered a potential health hazard. The trihalomethane formation potential (THMFP) of a raw water source may indicate the maximum trihalomethanes (THMs) that are likely to be produced when chlorine reacts with natural organic matter (NOM) present in the water. A study was conducted to evaluate the THMFP in seven different drinking water sources in the vicinity of Kalpakkam, a rural township, on the east coast of India. Water from seven stations were analysed for THMFP. THMFP was compared with surrogate parameters such as dissolved organic carbon (DOC), ultraviolet absorbance ($UV_{254}$) and bromide. The data showed that THMFP was high in water from open wells as compared to closed bore wells, possibly due to more photosynthetic activity. Proximity to sea, and consequently the levels of bromide, was an important factor that influenced THM formation. THM surrogate parameters showed good correlation with THMFP.

      • High electrochemical capacitor performance of oxygen and nitrogen enriched activated carbon derived from the pyrolysis and activation of squid gladius chitin

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Activated carbon containing nitrogen functionalities exhibits excellent electrochemical property which is more interesting for several renewable energy storage and catalytic applications. Here, we report the synthesis of microporous oxygen and nitrogen doped activated carbon utilizing chitin from the gladius of squid fish. The activated carbon has large surface area of 1129 m<SUP>2</SUP> g<SUP>−1</SUP> with microporous network and possess ∼4.04% of nitrogen content in the form of pyridinic/pyrrolic-N, graphitic-N and N-oxide groups along with oxygen and carbon species. The microporous oxygen/nitrogen doped activated carbon is utilize for the fabrication of aqueous and flexible supercapacitor electrodes, which presents excellent electrochemical performance with maximum specific capacitance of 204 Fg<SUP>−1</SUP> in 1 M H<SUB>2</SUB>SO<SUB>4</SUB> electrolyte and 197 Fg<SUP>−1</SUP> as a flexible supercapacitor. Moreover, the device displays 100% of specific capacitance retention after 25,000 subsequent charge/discharge cycles in 1 M H<SUB>2</SUB>SO<SUB>4</SUB> electrolyte.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> A novel O- and N- doped activated carbon is derived from squid gladius chitin. </LI> <LI> The microporous carbon is used for the fabrication of supercapacitor electrodes. </LI> <LI> The supercapacitors demonstrated remarkable electrochemical performances. </LI> <LI> The device shows long stability of ∼100% after 25,000 charge/discharge cycles. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>
