      • Comparison of Principal Component Analysis and Linear Discriminate Analysis algorithm in human teeth recognition

        Biometric is an interesting research area where there are different approaches studied in the literature. This paper performs the comparison analysis of methods based Principal Components Analysis (PCA) and Linear Discriminate Analysis (LDA) for pattern recognition of human teeth. PCA and LDA are appearance based techniques, used widely for the dimensionality reduction and recorded a great performance for face recognition. To extract feature this paper uses the subspace created by the eigenvectors of the covariance matrix and the Fisher basis vectors. The training teeth images was mapped to the subspace for recognition, and the test teeth images are projected to the same subspace for recognition. The recognition measures as Euclidean distance to determine the class from training data to test data. Our experimental result was verified the superiority of the PCA method over the LDA algorithms in teeth recognition.

        Comparison of Different Deep Learning Optimizers for Modeling Photovoltaic Power

        Comparison of different optimizer performance in photovoltaic power modeling using artificial neural deep learning techniques is described in this paper. Six different deep learning optimizers are tested for Long-Short-Term Memory networks in this study. The optimizers are namely Adam, Stochastic Gradient Descent, Root Mean Square Propagation, Adaptive Gradient, and some variants such as Adamax and Nadam. For comparing the optimization techniques, high and low fluctuated photovoltaic power output are examined and the power output is real data obtained from the site at Mokpo university. Using Python Keras version, we have developed the prediction program for the performance evaluation of the optimizations. The prediction error results of each optimizer in both high and low power cases shows that the Adam has better performance compared to the other optimizers.

      • Downregulation of ERK signaling impairs U2OS osteosarcoma cell migration in collagen matrix by suppressing MMP9 production

        <P>The present study investigated the role of extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) activation in the migratory phenotype of human U2OS osteosarcoma (OS) cells in a collagen matrix. The activation of ERK was inhibited by PD98059, a specific inhibitor of ERK kinase. Additionally, no significant differences were observed in the adhesion and proliferation of the cells with or without PD98059 treatment in collagen-coated dishes. The migratory capacity of the U2OS cells was then examined in non-coated and collagen-coated dishes, and the results depicted that collagen I enhanced the migration of the U2OS cells, the effect of which was significantly blocked by the treatment of the cells with PD98059. Furthermore, enhanced gene and protein expression of matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP9), but not MMP2, was observed to be involved in the enhanced migratory phenotype of the U20S cells in the collagen-coated plates. This effect was partially abolished by the treatment of the cells in the collagen-coated dishes with ERK inhibitor. Collectively, the data demonstrate that ERK signaling is important for the migration of U2OS cells through the extracellular matrix (ECM), which is comprised mostly of collagen, by enhancing MMP9 production. These results may contribute to the regulation of MMP9 production in metastatic OS.</P>

        Impaired Taste Associative Memory and Memory Enhancement by Feeding Omija in Parkinson's Disease Fly Model

        Neurodegeneration can result in memory loss in the central nervous system (CNS) and impairment of taste and smell in the peripheral nervous system (PNS). The neurodegeneration seen in Parkinson's disease (PD) is characterized by functional loss of dopaminergic neurons. Recent studies have also found a role for dopaminergic neurons in regulating taste memory rewards in insects. To investigate how taste memories and sugar sensitivity can be affected in PD, we utilized the $DJ-1{\beta}$ mutant fruit fly, $DJ-1{\beta}^{ex54}$, as a PD model. We performed binary choice feeding assays, electrophysiology and taste-mediated memory tests to explore the function of the $DJ-1{\beta}$ gene in terms of sugar sensitivity as well as associative taste memory. We found that PD flies exhibited an impaired ability to discriminate sucrose across a range of sugar concentrations, with normal responses at only very high concentrations of sugar. They also showed an impairment in associative taste memory. We highlight that the taste impairment and memory defect in $DJ-1{\beta}^{ex54}$ can be recovered by the expression of wild-type $DJ-1{\beta}$ gene in the dopaminergic neurons. We also emphasized the role of dopaminergic neurons in restoring taste memory function. This impaired memory property of $DJ-1{\beta}^{ex54}$ flies also allows them to be used as a model system for finding supplementary dietary foods that can improve memory function. Here we provide evidence that the associative taste memory of both control and $DJ-1{\beta}^{ex54}$ flies can be enhanced with dietary supplementation of the medicinal plant, omija.

      • 폐기물 가스화 반응기의 CFD 해석

        현재 국내 폐기물 처리의 추세가 매립이나 단순소각에서 재활용 및 에너지화로 정책 방향이 이동됨에 따라 물질재활용이 어려운 가연성 폐기물에 대한 에너지화 사업의 추진이 활성화 되고 있으며 또한 RPS(Renewable Portfolio Standard) 제도의 도입으로 인한 국내 폐자원 에너지화 설비에 대한 안정화된 기술개발의 보급 필요성이 급증하고 있다. 기존의 소각열 회수를 통한 에너지화 기술 이외의 계속적인 기술개발이 요구되는 폐기물 에너지화 기술에는 기술적으로 고형연료화 기술 및 열분해 액상 연료화 기술 그리고 폐기물 가스화기술로 구분될 수 있다. 이러한 폐기물 에너지지화 기술 중 폐기물 가스화기술은 폐기물로부터 청정에너지(합성가스)를 생산하여 고효율로 발전을 하거나 부가가치가 높은 화학원료를 생산할 수 있는 기술로 폐기물의 보다 안정적이고 친환경적인 처리기술로 고려되고 있어 큰 관심의 대상이 되고 있다. 그러나 현재 국내의 기술개발 및 상용화 수준이 선진국에 비해 다소 미흡하여 과거 소각로 등 폐기물 처리분야 장치산업과 마찬가지로 향후 선진국으로부터의 기술종속이 우려됨에 따라 이를 예방하고 국내 및 해외시장의 선점을 위해서는 폐기물의 성상을 고려한 상용규모의 경제성 있는 국내고유의 가스화 기술 및 합성가스 이용기술개발이 절실히 필요한 실정에 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 이러한 폐기물 가스화기술의 한 요소기술의 개발에 활용 가능한 가스화 반응기에 대한 CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamic) 해석연구를 수행하였다. 이를 위하여 가스화 반응기에 대한 격자 및 Solver로 ANSYS DesignModeler V.14.5와 ANSYS FLUENT V.14.5를 각각 활용하였다.

      • Collagen I-induced dendritic cells activation is regulated by TNF-alpha production through down-regulation of IRF4.

        <P>Previously we have shown that collagen I enhances the maturation and function of dendritic cells (DCs). Inflammatory mediators such as tumour necrosis factor (TNF)- alpha, interleukin (IL)-1 beta and lipopolysaccharide (LPS) are also known to activate DCs. Here we investigated the involvement of TNF-alpha on the collagen I-induced DCs activation. TNF-a neutralization inhibited collagen I-induced IL-12 secretions by DCs. Additionally, we observed suppression of collagen I-induced costimulatory molecules expression along with down-regulation of genes involved in DCs activation pathway. Furthermore, TNF- alpha inhibition upon collagen Istimulation up-regulated the expression of interferon regulatory transcription factor IRF4, when compared to collagen I only treated cells. Collectively, our data demonstrate that collagen I induce TNF- alpha production, which is crucial for the activation and function of DCs, through down-regulation of IRF4, and implicates the importance in development of anti- TNF-alpha therapeutics for several inflammatory diseases.</P>

      • 1P-631 CFD analysis of Stoker Boiler with capacity higher than 50ton/day for overcoming combustion failures

        현재 국내 도시 생활쓰레기 및 산업쓰레기의 처리 시, 매립지 부족과 침출수 등으로 인한 2차 오염문제로 매립처리 방법은 우리나라에서는 적절치 않다. 하지만 쓰레기의 소각처리의 경우, 소각으로 인한 열작감량이 매우 크고 폐에너지 회수의 장점도 있기에 국내 쓰레기의 처리는 소각에 많이 의존하고 있다. 또한 국내 대체에너지의 목표치가 높아지는 상황에서 폐기물의 대체 에너지가 큰 역할을 해 주어야 한다. 폐기물 고형연료를 연소하는 과정 중에는 여러 문제점이 있는데, 설비의 고온 부식의 영향 및 연소로 내 국부적인 가열로 인한 설비의 파손, 연소로 내 불규칙적 유동현상으로 인한 연소 장애 등이 있다. 따라서 앞에서 말한 문제점들을 보안하며 보일러의 안정적인 운전 및 열효율 향상을 위해서는 기본적으로 연소로 내 유동현상을 정확히 예측할 수 있어야 한다. 이를 위해 우리는 상용화 되고 있는 50ton/day 이상 Stoker 보일러 현장 운전조건을 대입, Ansys CFD Fluent.18을 사용하여 시뮬레이션을 진행하였다. 연소로 내 열의 유동해석, 배출가스의 흐름 등을 예측하여 연소장애의 원인을 찾아보고 이에 맞는 대안을 찾기 위한 연구를 하였다.

      • Changes in the Distribution of Cancer Incidence in Nepal from 2003 to 2013

        Background: Cancer incidence data are vital for cancer control planning in any nation. This retrospective study was conducted to compare the cancer incidence of all sites between the first cancer registry report and the most recent example in Nepal. Material and Methods: The cases in the first (2003) and latest (2013) national cancer registry reports, accumulated by all the hospital based cancer registries in Nepal were taken for the research. The frequencies, crude incidences and age specific incidences (per 100,000) of the five major cancers were calculated for both males and females. Result: The most common cancer type for males in both years 2003 and 2013 was lung. Stomach was the third most common cancer in 2003 while it was the second in 2013. Similarly, the first four major cancers (cervix, breast, lung and ovary) did not change between 2003 and 2013 in females. The total cancer incidence rate increased from 12.8 in 2003 to 30.4 per 100,000 in 2013 for males and from 15.1 to 33.3 in females. Conclusion: The most common cancers in males in 2003 and 2013 were the bronchus and lung. Similarly, the most common cancer in females was cervix at both time points. The cancer incidence rate in females was higher than in males both in 2003 and 2013.
