        Clinical Utility and Cut-Off Scores of the Korean Adult Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder Rating Scale

        Objectives: This study was conducted to re-validate the clinical efficacy of the Korean Adult Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Rating Scale (K-AARS), which is a self-report scale for ADHD in adults, and to determine the clinical utility and cut-off scores of K-AARS. Methods: The participants were 135 drug naïve adults with ADHD and 144 healthy controls. To diagnose ADHD based on the diagnostic criteria of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th Edition, two board-certified pediatric psychiatrists interviewed the participants and completed the Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview. K-AARS was applied to all participants. K-AARS comprises six clinical subscales, one impairment subscale, and one driving behavior subscale. The receiver operating characteristic analysis was conducted to calculate the cut-off scores of K-AARS. Results: All subscale scores, including six clinical subscale, impairment subscale, and driving behavior subscale scores, were found to be significant in distinguishing adults with ADHD from healthy controls. The sensitivity and specificity of the six clinical subscales were 63.0–77.0% and 66.7–79.9%, respectively. The combined total score of the six clinical subscales, had a sensitivity of 80.0% and specificity of 79.9%. Conclusion: The discriminative power of K-AARS for the diagnosis of ADHD in adults was excellent, and K-AARS and the empirical diagnosis of adults can be useful in diagnosing ADHD in adulthood.

        Preliminary Report of Validity for the Infant Comprehensive Evaluation for Neurodevelopmental Delay, a Newly Developed Inventory for Children Aged 12 to 71 Months

        Objectives: Early detection of developmental issues in infants and necessary intervention are important. To identify the comorbid conditions, a comprehensive evaluation is required. The study’s objectives were to 1) generate scale items by identifying and eliciting concepts relevant to young children (12–71 months) with developmental delays, 2) develop a comprehensive screening tool for developmental delay and comorbid conditions, and 3) assess the tool’s validity and cut-off. Methods: Multidisciplinary experts devised the “Infant Comprehensive Evaluation for Neurodevelopmental Delay (ICEND),” an assessment method that comes in two versions depending on the age of the child: 12–36 months and 37–71 months, through monthly seminars and focused group interviews. The ICEND is composed of three parts: risk factors, resilience factors, and clinical scales. In parts 1 and 2, there were 41 caretakers responded to the questionnaires. Part 3 involved clinicians evaluating ten subscales using 98 and 114 questionnaires for younger and older versions, respectively. The Child Behavior Checklist, Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire, Infant-Toddler Social Emotional Assessment, and Korean Developmental Screening Test for Infants and Children were employed to analyze concurrent validity with the ICEND. The analyses were performed on both typical and high-risk infants to identify concurrent validity, reliability, and cut-off scores. Results: A total of 296 people participated in the study, with 57 of them being high-risk (19.2%). The Cronbach’s alpha was positive (0.533–0.928). In the majority of domains, the ICEND demonstrated a fair discriminatory ability, with a sensitivity of 0.5–0.7 and specificity 0.7–0.9. Conclusion: The ICEND is reliable and valid, indicating its potential as an auxiliary tool for assessing neurodevelopmental delay and comorbid conditions in children aged 12–36 months and 37–71 months.

        Comparison of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder Practice in Adults According to a Training Background in Child Psychiatry

        Objectives: Awareness of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in adults has significantly increased; however, clinical data specific to the Korean population are insufficient. Clinical experience of ADHD may differ based on whether psychiatrists have received pediatric psychiatry-specific training. In order to prepare a practice parameter for adult ADHD patients in Korea, we examined questionnaire data to observe how pediatric psychiatry training could affect clinical practice for adults with ADHD. Methods: A questionnaire about the diagnosis and treatment process was distributed to both general psychiatrists (GPsy) and child and adolescent psychiatrists (CAP) at the summer and winter workshop meetings of Korean Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Results: In total, 142 psychiatrists participated in the survey (86 GPsy, 56 CAP). GPsy and CAP preferred pharmacotherapy (GPsy 82.40%, CAP 64.30%) as the primary treatment option and answered that the clinical psychiatric interview is the most necessary step in diagnostic assessment (GPsy 22.16%, CAP 19.00%). The GPsy responded with an optimal and average treatment duration that was shorter than that reported by CAP. Conclusion: Identification of the initial presenting symptom as the correct diagnosis and the optimal duration of pharmacotherapy differed between GPsy and CAP in practice, whereas concepts in diagnosis and treatment of ADHD in adults were similar for both groups. These results suggest the urgent need for the Continuing Medical Education program for psychiatrists treating adults with ADHD.

        초등 과학수업에서 학생들이 구성한 비주얼 씽킹의 유형 및 수업 효과

        Based on the importance of visual representation for scientific understanding, this study applied visual thinking in elementary science classes. This study analyzed elementary students’ visual thinking and investigated the instructional influences. Students’ perceptions on the class applying visual thinking were also investigated. The subject were 38 fourth grade students, 18 in experimental group and 20 in control group. For the unit of ‘Shadow and mirror’, on-line and off-line blended classes were applied in both group because of COVID-19. The experimental group student were asked to construct their own visual thinking, while the control group students used traditional workbook. The results were as follows. First, students’ visual thinking can be classified into three different types, which are ‘activity recall type’, ‘result summary type’, and ‘core concept representation type’ based on what they represent rather than how they represent. Second, applying visual thinking in science class showed significant effects on science academic achievement, science related attitude, and creative academic efficacy. Third, students’ perceptions on applying visual thinking in science classes were very positive. Students perceived visual thinking activities were interesting and helpful for understanding science. Educational implications of applying visual thinking in elementary science classes were discussed.

        Increased Right Dorsolateral Prefrontal Cortex Connectivity During Emotion Recognition Task in Adolescents With Self-Injurious Behavior: A Functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy Study

        Objective Research on neural correlates in the prefrontal cortex (PFC) associated with self-injurious behavior has mainly been performed in adults. However, studies on adolescents are scarce. We aimed to investigate the activation and connectivity of the PFC between adolescents with self-injurious behavior (ASI) and psychiatric controls (PC) using functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS).Methods We used an emotion recognition task during fNIRS to assess 37 adolescents (23 with self-injurious behavior and 14 PC) between June 2020 and October 2021 and compared connectivity and activation between the two groups. We also measured adverse childhood events (ACE, Adverse Childhood Experiences) and performed a correlation analysis of channel activation according to ACE total scores.Results The difference in activation between the groups was not statistically significant. The connectivity of channel 6 was statistically significant. The interaction between channel 6 and the ACE total score showed statistical significance between the two groups(t[33] -2.61; p=0.014). The ASI group showed a negative correlation with the total ACE score.Conclusion This is the first study to investigate PFC connectivity using fNIRS in ASI. It has the implication of a novel attempt with a practically useful tool to uncover neurobiological differences among Korean adolescents.

        Semi closed-form pricing autocallable ELS using Brownian Bridge

        This paper discusses the pricing of autocallable structured product with knock-in (KI) feature using the exit probability with the Brownian Bridge technique. The explicit pricing formula of autocallable ELS derived in the existing paper handles the part including the minimum of the Brownian motion using the inclusion-exclusion principle. This has the disadvantage that the pricing formula is complicate because of the probability with minimum value and the computational volume increases dramatically as the number of autocall chances increases. To solve this problem, we applied an efficient and robust simulation method called the Brownian Bridge technique, which provides the probability of touching the predetermined barrier when the initial and terminal values of the process following the Brownian motion in a certain interval are specified. We rewrite the existing pricing formula and provide a brief theoretical background and computational algorithm for the technique. We also provide several numerical examples computed in three different ways: explicit pricing formula, the Crude Monte Carlo simulation method and the Brownian Bridge technique.

        상담자의 비대면 화상상담 경험에 대한 합의적 질적 연구: D 대학원 상담센터를 중심으로

        본 연구는 COVID-19 팬데믹 이후 필요성이 한층 증가된 비대면 화상상담을 시행하고 있는 상담사들의 경험을 통해 비대면 상담의 경험과 비대면 화상상담의 특징을 탐색하기 위해 수행되었다. 이를 위해 비대면 화상상담 시스템이 안정적으로 구축된 D 대학원 상담센터에 주목하고, 최근 6개월 이내에 10회기 이상 진행한 사례를 2사례 이상 가진 상담자 13명을 참여자로 선정하였다. 합의적 질적 연구(CQR)방법에 따라 자료를 수집, 분석하여 3개의 영역, 8개 범주가 결과로 도출되었다. <비대면 화상상담에 대한 개인적 경험> 영역에서는 ‘가상공간에 대한 불확실성에 대한 염려와 긴장’, ‘우려를 불식시킨 긍정적 경험’, ‘전문가로서의 성장 기회’, <비대면 화상상담의 평가> 영역에서는 ‘시공간 제약의 초월’, ‘물리적 거리감이 주는 한계’, ‘대면 상담과의 차이’, <비대면 화상상담 운영을 위한 제언> 영역에서는 ‘필요조건’, ‘지원체계 확보’로 구조화하였다. 본 연구는 새로운 상담 방식인 화상상담의 긍정성과 한계를 확인하고, 상담사로서의 성장 과정을 탐색하였다는 것에 의의가 있다. 마지막으로 본 연구의 제한점과 추후 연구를 위한 논의를 제시하였다. This study explored counselors’ experiences in teletherapy, which has increased since the COVID-19 pandemic. This study was conducted with counselors at the D Graduate School Counseling Center, which had a stable teletherapy system. Among the counselors, 13 therapists who had conducted at least 2 cases of 10 or more sessions within the past 6 months were selected. The consensual qualitative research (CQR) method was utilized, and 3 domains and 8 categories were derived as a result. The domains are as follows; <Personal experience with teletherapy>, <Evaluation of teletherapy>, <Suggestions for operating teletherapy>. The implication is that the study confirmed the positives and limitations of teletherapy as a new counseling method. Lastly, the study's limitations and suggestions for future research were discussed.

      • 지하공동구 유지관리에 적합한 유비쿼터스 센서 네트워크 모델에 관한 연구

        IT분야 급속한 발전과 함께 유비쿼터스 응용시스템 적용 분야의 범위도 점점 넓어지고 있다. 그 중 사회기반 시설물 관리에 유비쿼터스 센서 네트워크 시스템을 적용하는 문제도 예외는 아니다. 현재까지 대부분의 사회기반 시설물은 지하와 지상에 분산되어 있다. 그로인해 체계적인 유지보수 및 관리에 어려움이 발생하고 있는데, 최근 선도사를 중심으로 지하공동구라는 공간에 기반 시설물을 응집하여 체계적인 관리체계를 구축하려는 노력들이 시작되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 지하공동구라는 밀폐되고 한정된 공간에 센서 네트워크를 적용하기 위한 최적의 방법을 고찰하고 해당 구역에 설치된 시설물 관리에 적합한 USN 토폴로지 구성과 상황인식이 가능한 센서 모델을 제안한다.
