        Application of an electrostatically actuated cantilevered carbon nanotube with an attached mass as a bio-mass sensor

        In the present paper, another latent capability of SWCNT as a mass sensor is investigated. The relationship between the resonant frequency, dynamic pull-in voltage at the resonance frequency shift, and the attached mass is established by using the nonlocal EulereBernoulli beam theory. Using this relationship,a general closed-form nonlinear sensor-equation has been derived for the detection of the mass attached to the SWCNT. The aim of this study and present model is to show the sensitivity of the Cantilevered SWCNT to the values and positions of attached mass. Moreover, the results indicate that by increasing the value of attached mass and considering a single non-local scaling parameter (e0), the values of dynamic pull-in voltage at the resonance frequency shift are decreased. Because of the small scaling parameter (e0), the mass sensitivity of carbon nanotube increases, when the position of the attached mass is in the tip of a Cantilevered SWCNT length. The authority and the accuracy of these formulas are examined with other pull-in sensor equations in literatures. The results demonstrate that the new sensor equation can be applied for CNT-based mass sensors with rational accuracy.

        DERIVATIONS ON CONVOLUTION ALGEBRAS

        In this paper, we investigate derivations on the noncommutative Banach algebra $L^{\infty}_0({\omega})^*$ equipped with an Arens product. As a main result, we prove the Singer-Wermer conjecture for the noncommutative Banach algebra $L^{\infty}_0({\omega})^*$. We then show that a derivation on $L^{\infty}_0({\omega})^*$ is continuous if and only if its restriction to rad($L^{\infty}_0({\omega})^*$) is continuous. We also prove that there is no nonzero centralizing derivation on $L^{\infty}_0({\omega})^*$. Finally, we prove that the space of all inner derivations of $L^{\infty}_0({\omega})^*$ is continuously homomorphic to the space $L^{\infty}_0({\omega})^*/L^1({\omega})$.

      • High-Performance Computation Using a Single-Flux Quantum Accelerator

        A large-scale reconfigurable data-path (LSRDP) processor based on single-flux quantum circuits has been proposed to overcome the barriers originating from the CMOS technology. LSRDP is integrated to a general purpose processor in a high-performance computing system to accelerate the execution of data flow graphs extracted from scientific applications. The LSRDP micro-architecture and its specifications will be presented in this paper. A preliminary performance evaluation of the reconfigurable processor will be given as well.

        Application of the energy balance method to nonlinear vibrating equations

        In this paper, He’s energy balance method is applied to nonlinear vibrations and oscillations. The method is applied to four nonlinear differential equations. It has indicated that by utilizing He’s energy balance method (HEBM), just one iteration leads us to high accuracy of solutions. It has illustrated that the energy balance methodology is very effective and convenient and does not require linearization or small perturbation. Contrary to the conventional methods, in energy balance method, only one iteration leads to high accuracy of the solutions. The results reveal that the energy balance method is very effective and simple. It is predicted that the energy balance method can be found wide application in engineering problems, as indicated in following examples.

        Electrochemical noise investigation of Aloe plant extract as green inhibitor on the corrosion of stainless steel in 1 M H2SO4

        The inhibition action of Aloe Vera leaf extract as environmentally friendly inhibitor for the corrosionprotection of stainless steel in 1 M H2SO4 solution was studied by electrochemical techniques as well asscanning electron microscope. The results of linear polarization and electrochemical impedancespectroscopy proved the effectiveness of Aloe Vera extract as concentration increased. Corrosioninhibition of Aloe extract was also studied by electrochemical noise (EN). Employing EN, differentaspects like transient analysis, noise resistant and characteristic charge were characterized. Moreover, aliterature review of Aloe Vera characterization using high-performance liquid chromatography and GCMSwas carried out.

        The Relationship between Anger Expression and Its Indices and Oral Lichen Planus

        Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a common inflammatory disease with unknown etiology. Depression, stress and anxiety are psychological factors that their influence on the expressionof lichen planus by affecting the immune system’s function has been confirmed. There is a probable relationship between anger and OLP expression. Therefore,the present study aimed to evaluate the association of “anger” and OLP. In this descriptivestudy 95 subjects were included in 3 groups. A: patients with oral lichen planus,B: positive control, C: negative control. Anger and its indices were assessed by theState-Trait Anger Expression Inventory-2 (STAXI-2) questionnaire, and pain wasmeasured via the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). The collected data were analyzed statisticallyusing SPSS 18 software. The lichen planus and positive control groups borehigher total anger index (AX index) values compared with the negative control. Comparing anger expression-in (AXI) among the lichen planus and negative controlgroups revealed higher grades in lichen planus group. Evaluating the pain severity index(VAS) data and anger indices in lichen planus group, Spearman’s Rank CorrelationTest revealed a significant correlation between TAngR (reactional anger traits) andpain severity. The findings of this study indicated that there was a significant correlationbetween anger control and suppression of lichen planus development. On the otherhand, the patients with more severe pain mostly expressed their anger physically. Based on the findings, we can make the claim that anger suppression and its control-in(gathering tension) may play a role in the development of lichen planus as a knownpsychosomatic disorders.

      • Expression Analysis of MiR-21, MiR-205, and MiR-342 in Breast Cancer in Iran

        MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are short non-coding RNA molecules characterized by their regulatory roles in cancer and gene expression. We analyzed the expression of miR-21, miR-205, and miR-342 in 59 patients with breast cancer. Samples were divided into three different groups according to their immunohistochemistry (IHC) classification: ER- positive and/or PR-positive group ($ER^+$ and/or $PR^+$; group I); HER2-positive group ($HER^{2+}$; group II); and ER/ PR/ HER2- negative ($ER^-$/ $PR^-$/ $HER^{2-}$; group III) as the triple negative group. The expression levels of the 3 miRNAs were analyzed in the tumor samples and the compared with the normal neighboring dissected tumor (NNDT) samples in all three groups. The expression of miR-21 was similar in all three groups. In patients positive for P53 by IHC, positive for axillary lymph node metastasis and higher tumor stages, it appeared to have significantly elevated. However, significant increase was not found among the 18 fibroadenoma samples. Both miR-205 and miR-342 expressions were significantly down regulated in group III. We conclude that miR-21 does not discriminate between different breast cancer groups. In contrast, miR-205 and miR-342 may be used as potential biomarkers for diagnosis of triple negative breast cancer.

        Study of effective parameters for the polarization characterization of PEMFCs sensitivity analysis and numerical simulation

        A three-dimensional model of a HT-PEMFC was simulated using Comsol Multiphysics software. Sensitivity was analyzed by using the three-level Box-Behnken experimental design. The effect of independent variables on the fuel cell performance including air and hydrogen velocity, temperature and amount of phosphoric acid doping level (PAdop) on the membrane was investigated. The results showed that the PAdop is the most important variable. The simulation results showed that with the increasing of the PAdop from 2 to 16, the current density (at a voltage of 0.4 V) increased from 0.3 to 0.9A/cm2, which confirms the importance of the PAdop factor on the fuel cell performance.

        Periodate activation by concurrent utilization of UV and US for the degradation of para-nitrophenol in water: A synergistic approach

        Para-nitrophenol (PNP) is a toxic compound widely used in various industries. The release of PNP into the environment not only threatens human health but the ecosystem. Hence, the treatment of contaminated water is necessary. Periodate (PI) is a new oxidant which is used for the generation of free radicals. In the current work, PI was concurrently activated by ultraviolet (UV) and ultrasound (US) to eliminate PNP from aqueous solution. The effects of operating parameters were studied and complete degradation of PNP was obtained in 30 min. The presence of ferrous ions increased the PNP degradation rate. Scavenging experiments confirmed that HO• and IO • 3 were corresponding agents of the PNP degradation, which the latter had a bold role. The performance of PI/UV/US was examined on real wastewater and the results showed that 70% of total phenol was removed during 60 min. The PNP degradation intermediate was recognized and a pathway of PNP degradation was proposed. Although PI/UV/US process is high energy consuming, its excellent performance can be a rational reason for the scaling up the process.
