Improved performance of cerium conversion coatings on steel with zinc phosphate post-treatment
B. Ramezanzadeh,H. Vakili,R. Amini 한국공업화학회 2015 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.30 No.-
The steel samples were pre-treated by cerium conversion layer. Then, zinc phosphate conversion coatingwas used as sealing agent for the cerium conversion layer to enhance its corrosion resistance. Thecorrosion performance and surface characteristics of the samples were characterized by electrochemicalimpedance spectroscopy, scanning electron microscope and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Resultsrevealed that the post-treatment of the cerium conversion coating by phosphate coating significantlyincreased its corrosion resistance. A denser conversion layer with less cracks were precipitated on thesteel surface after post-treatment by zinc phosphate. The surface free energy was significantly increasedafter post-treatment by zinc phosphate.

M. Mahdavian,B. Ramezanzadeh,M. Akbarian,M. Ramezanzadeh,P. Kardar,E. Alibakhshi,S. Farashi 한국공업화학회 2017 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.55 No.-
This work intends to study the effect of a polydimethylsiloxane additive on the protection performance of a hybrid silane coating on mild steel. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, polarization and electrochemical noise measurements and salt spray showed an increase in corrosion resistance of the silane coating in the presence of the additive. Silane films were examined by FTIR, water droplet contact angle, Vickers hardness and SEM. Results showed decrease in crosslinking density in the presence of the additive. Superior corrosion protection in the presence of additive was attributed to the enhanced hydrophobic character and flexibility of the coating.
Corrosion inhibition properties of a green hybrid pigment based on Pr-Urtica Dioica plant extract

The main aim of this research is studying the corrosion inhibition properties of the combination of praseodymium nitrate (PrN) and Urtica Dioica (UrDi) on mild steel in sodium chloride solution. Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis), thermogravimetric analysis/differential thermogravimetry (TGA/DTG) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) results confirmed complex formation between Pr cations and UrDi (Pr-UrDi). Electrochemical results revealed that the Pr-UrDi hybrid complex had significant influence on the mild steel corrosion protection (by inhibition efficiency of ca. 94%) in NaCl solution.

Chain extenders including diethanol amine (DEA) and 2-cyano-N,N-bis-hydroxyethyl acetamide (CNBA)were utilized to enhance the adhesion and mechanical properties of a polyurethane (PU) adhesive. The adhesion and mechanical properties of the adhesives were studied by peel test, tensile test and dynamic thermal analysis (DMTA) respectively. Results revealed that both chain extenders (DEA and CNBA)increased peel test modulus. The cross-linking density and toughness of the adhesive were significantly increased using chain extenders. Results showed that chain extender without side chain (DEA) could improve the adhesion and mechanical properties of the adhesive greater than chain extender with aliphatic side group (CNBA).

The inhibition action of Aloe Vera leaf extract as environmentally friendly inhibitor for the corrosionprotection of stainless steel in 1 M H2SO4 solution was studied by electrochemical techniques as well asscanning electron microscope. The results of linear polarization and electrochemical impedancespectroscopy proved the effectiveness of Aloe Vera extract as concentration increased. Corrosioninhibition of Aloe extract was also studied by electrochemical noise (EN). Employing EN, differentaspects like transient analysis, noise resistant and characteristic charge were characterized. Moreover, aliterature review of Aloe Vera characterization using high-performance liquid chromatography and GCMSwas carried out.

This study aims at synthesis and characterization of a Fe3O4 nanoreservoir (Fe3O4-NS) by an ultrasoundassisted route through a layer-by-layer procedure. An active nanoreservoir was obtained throughinclusion of Nettle extract (NE) as a green corrosion inhibitor. A polyelectrolyte layer of polyaniline (PANI)was employed to loading corrosion inhibitor on the Fe3O4 nanoparticles (Fe3O4-NP) and preventing theinhibitor release from Fe3O4-NS before application. Fe3O4-NS was characterized by different analyticaltechniques. Results obtained confirmed that the PANI and NE layers were successfully deposited on theFe3O4-NP. Electrochemical measurements revealed that Fe3O4-NSfilled with NE is an efficient activecorrosion protective system.

The aim of this study is enhancing an automotive clearcoat easy-to-clean property against simulated tree gum (Arabic gum) using hydroxyl-functional silicone polyacrylate additives having different hydroxyl contents. The clearcoat surface, mechanical and chemical properties were studied using a contact angle measuring device, dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMTA) and Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) respectively. It was found that additive with lower hydroxyl content gave rise to better easy-to-clean properties of the clearcoat against Arabic gum. This additive also resulted in lower contact angles and higher cross-linking density, tensile stress and work of break of the clearcoat.

Reduction of graphene oxide still is one of discussion subjects in scientific communities. The use of toxicchemicals like hydrazine is a well-known procedure for graphene oxide reduction. In this paper, a newecofriendly, fully scalable, and cheap approach with easy procedure on industrial scale for producingreduced graphene oxide is introduced. The studied method was based on successful reduction ofgraphene oxide by urtica dioica leaves’ extract in 1 h at 90 C. Raman spectroscopy evidenced thesignificant removal of considerable oxygen functional groups in graphene oxide after reduction. Improving corrosion properties by helping the functionalization ability of u. dioica leaves’ extract forsuperior dispersion in polyurethane coatings was studied as well. Electrochemical impedancespectroscopy measurements along with salt spray exposure test revealed the remarkable role ofresultant reduced graphene oxide in protective function of polyurethane coatings before and afteraccelerated weathering condition. Impedance value in low frequency diagrams reveals more than 99%protection efficiency indicating the great role of u. dioica in barrier property of PU coatings afteraccelerated weathering condition.

An aluminum alloy 1050 was treated by zirconium-based conversion coatings at different pHs, immersion times, temperatures and Zr concentrations. Corrosion resistance and morphological properties of samples were investigated by potentiostatic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectrum (EDS) and atomic force microscope (AFM). The results showed that surface treatment of aluminum by zirconium conversion coating caused decrease in corrosion current density and increase in corrosion resistance even at long immersion times. The Zr conversion layer enhanced the adhesion of the epoxy coating to the aluminum alloy surface.
