A New Approach of Imaging Defects in Concrete Structures
Lee, Sanghun,Endo, Takao,Kagaya, Makoto,Sugawara, Takashi 한국방재학회 2012 한국방재학회 학술발표대회논문집 Vol.11 No.-
Image created by stack imaging spectral amplitudes based on the impact-echo (SIBIE) method is largely one-dimensional because a single frequency domain spectrum for wave reflected below a single point of impact is used to create the image. The method has limitations for representing defects in a cross section of a concrete structural element using two-dimensional coordinates. This study focused on defect detection and visualization in a concrete structural element using multiple impacts and accumulated SIBIE. An impactor was used to induce energy at multiple points at positioned at prescribed intervals along the structural element. A modified SIBIE method was applied to the collected data of each point and the modified SIBIE images were accumulated to generate one image (an accumulated SIBIE image). As a result, the defect positions could be represented in the cross section of the structural element using a two-dimensional coordinate system.
A Study on Ship’s Autopilot System for a Small Boat

This paper describes dynamics analysis of a small training boat and the application of a gain map PID controller to the autopilot of the vessel. After upgrading the autopilot of the Sazanami, an actual small training boat, in order to identify the boat model, zigzag maneuver trials were performed at various speeds. It was found that the Nomoto gain and time constant changed considerably with the vessel’s speed. Based on this analysis, an improved autopilot system that utilizes a gain map PID controller to compensate for vessel maneuverability changes was designed. From the results of various control simulations, we determined that the proposed system offered significant performance improvements over the vessel’s conventional autopilot.
Loneliness, Depression and Health Status of the Institutionalized Elderly in Korea and Japan
김옥수,변영순,김정희,Emiko Endo,Makoto Akahoshi,Hiromi Ogasawara 한국간호과학회 2009 Asian Nursing Research Vol.3 No.2
Purpose The purpose of the study was to describe loneliness, depression, and health status in Korean and Japanese institutionalized elderly and explore differences between the countries. Also this study determined predictors of depression in each group. Methods Elderly subjects, aged 65–98 (n = 184), were recruited from private nursing homes in Korea and Japan. Subjects were interviewed on health status, loneliness, and depression. Results Korean subjects had higher loneliness scores than Japanese. More Korean elderly had depressive symptoms than Japanese elderly. The mean GDS score of Korean elderly was 8.07 and that of Japanese elderly was 5.21. Korean elderly had less physical function, and perceived their general health to be poor. Loneliness and perception of general health were significant predictors of depression in Korean and Japanese subjects. Conclusion It is necessary to assess the levels of loneliness and depression of institutionalized Korean elderly and pursue an intervention to reduce these problems.
