<P><B>Rationale</B></P> <P>The P2Y<SUB>12</SUB> receptor inhibitor clopidogrel is widely used in patients with acute coronary syndrome, percutaneous coronary intervention, or ischemic stroke. Platelet inhibition by clopidogrel shows wide interpatient variability, and high on-treatment platelet reactivity is a risk factor for atherothrombotic events, particularly in high-risk populations. <I>CYP2C19</I> polymorphism plays an important role in this variability, but heritability estimates suggest that additional genetic variants remain unidentified. The aim of the International Clopidogrel Pharmacogenomics Consortium (ICPC) is to identify genetic determinants of clopidogrel pharmacodynamics and clinical response.</P> <P><B>Study design</B></P> <P>Based on the data published on www.clinicaltrials.gov, clopidogrel intervention studies containing genetic and platelet function data were identified for participation. Lead investigators were invited to share DNA samples, platelet function test results, patient characteristics, and cardiovascular outcomes to perform candidate gene and genome-wide studies.</P> <P><B>Results</B></P> <P>In total, 17 study sites from 13 countries participate in the ICPC, contributing individual patient data from 8,829 patients. Available adenosine diphosphate–stimulated platelet function tests included vasodilator-stimulated phosphoprotein assay, light transmittance aggregometry, and the VerifyNow P2Y<SUB>12</SUB> assay. A proof-of-principle analysis based on genotype data provided by each group showed a strong and consistent association between <I>CYP2C19</I>*2 and platelet reactivity (<I>P</I> value=5.1 × 10<SUP>−40</SUP>).</P> <P><B>Conclusion</B></P> <P>The ICPC aims to identify new loci influencing clopidogrel efficacy by using state-of-the-art genetic approaches in a large cohort of clopidogrel-treated patients to better understand the genetic basis of on-treatment response variability.</P>

Using the case of the Ghent University and its Technology Park, we will illustrate how changing policies and practices at the level of the university concerning research valorization have an impact on our science park. We will also demonstrate how the evolving nature of our science park has a clear impact on the university, as the science park becomes more and more an integral part of the university knowledge eco-system. We will also highlight the involvement of Ghent University in the Korea Songdo Global University Campus Project.

<P>We have studied the current-induced domain wall (CIDW) dynamics in perpendicularly magnetized Co/Ni multilayers deposited on Au underlayer, where the conventional spin transfer torque governs the domain wall dynamics, by the Kerr microscope. It is found that the DW angle tilting following Oersted field profile plays an important role in domain wall (DW) motion at high current density J by decreasing DW velocity with the increasing J, while distorting its DW morphology. Also we find that the DW pinning becomes pronounced as the anisotropy decreases by increasing number of Co/Ni repeats. Most remarkably, the DW tilting angle changes its sign by inserting ultrathin Pt layer between Au and Co layer, which suggests that the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction and spin Hall effect induces opposite effect in DW tilting. Our findings can be of use for application of CIDW to spintronics with perpendicularly magnetized systems. (C) 2016 The Japan Society of Applied Physics</P>

We report on a single electron transistor (SET) where the electronic levels of a singlep-conjugated molecule control the electron transport properties. The molecule can be in several distinct charged states from +3 to)4. The experiment closely resembles electrochemical measurements allowing us to report on quantitative measurements of the redox potentials (or ionization potentials)of a single molecule in a solid state device. The molecular excitation energies extracted from the SET measurements are strongly correlated with electrochemical data. In contrast, the HOMOLUMO gap is strongly reduced in a solid state environment, ascompared to solution. We suggest that this surprising eect may be caused by image charges generated in the source and drain electrodes. They will result in a strong localization of the charges on the molecule.
Current-Induced Domain-Wall Motion for Electron Flow in Ferromagnetic Pt/Co/Ni/Co/Pt Wires

<P>We report the current-induced domain-wall (CIDW) motion along the electron flow in the perpendicularly magnetized Co/Ni/Co structure sandwiched between the top and bottom Pt layers, observed by means of the Kerr microscope. As the lower Co thickness increases, the DW velocity for the electron flow is significantly increased, and also its motion becomes more stable irrespective of various current pulses. From the longitudinal field dependence of the DW velocity, it is found that the increase of the lower Co thickness increases a Dyzaloshinskii-Moriya interaction in the bottom Co/Pt interface, which results in the increase of the chiral spin torque, responsible for the increase of the DW velocity along the electron flow.</P>

Purpose: A fully digital approach to oral prosthodontic rehabilitation requires the possibility of combining (i.e., registering) digital documentation from different sources. This becomes more complex in an edentulous jaw, as fixed dental markers to perform reliable registration are lacking. This validation study aimed to evaluate the reproducibility of 1) intraoral scanning and 2) soft tissue-based registration of an intraoral scan with a cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scan for a fully edentulous upper jaw. Materials and Methods: Two observers independently performed intraoral scans of the upper jaw in 14 fully edentulous patients. The palatal vault of both surface models was aligned, and the inter-observer variability was assessed by calculating the mean inter-surface distance at the level of the alveolar crest. Additionally, a CBCT scan of all patients was obtained and a soft tissue surface model was generated using patient-specific gray values. This CBCT soft tissue model was registered with the intraoral scans of both observers, and the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) was calculated to evaluate the reproducibility of the registration method. Results: The mean inter-observer deviation when performing an intraoral scan of the fully edentulous upper jaw was 0.10±0.09 mm. The inter-observer agreement for the soft tissue-based registration method was excellent (ICC = 0.94; 95% confidence interval, 0.81-0.98). Conclusion: Even when teeth are lacking, intraoral scanning of the jaw and soft tissue-based registration of an intraoral scan with a CBCT scan can be performed with a high degree of precision.
