Reflection on Mark 3:13-19 and the Debate on the Purpose of Theological Education

This article addresses the debate on the purpose of theological education. It presents, first, a critical review of the works of scholars on the emphases and models of theological education. Then, in an attempt to build on the paradigm and principles of the Scripture with regard to theological education, exegesis and exposition was done on Mark’s explicit statement on the purposes of Jesus in educating and training the Twelve disciples (Mark 3:13-19) - to be with him and to be sent by him. Finally, the implication for our admission and training of theological students considering their calling, being, and doing is given.

A critical look at software tools in corpus linguistics

Corpora are often referred to as the 'tools' of corpus linguistics. However, it is important to recognize that corpora are simply linguistic data and that specialized software tools are required to view and analyze them. The functionality offered by software tools largely dictates what corpus linguistics research methods are available to a researcher, and hence, the design of tools will become an increasingly important factor as corpora become larger and the statistical analysis of linguistic data becomes increasingly complex. In this paper, I will first discuss how separating the data from the tools resolves various issues that are hotly debated within the field. Next, I will offer a critical look at the development of four generations of corpus tools, discussing their strengths and weaknesses. Then, I will discuss the role of programming in corpus linguistics tools creation and present a model for the development of future corpus tools. Finally, I will show a real-world example of a next-generation corpus tool that was developed for use in language learning. (Waseda University)

In Commemoration of the Legacy of Ulrich Beck

In this paper we will discuss about the paradigm of methodological cosmopolitism proposed by Ulrich Beck from the theory of migrations, based on research on new migrants, cosmopolitics and inegal individuation. We will first discuss the relations between cosmopolitanism, reflexive modernity and individuation, and then introduce the paradigm of Post-Western Sociology in dialogue with methodological cosmopolitanism. In Europe because of economic crisis, ethnic conflicts and wars in different countries, increasing numbers of asylum seekers, refugees, new migrants converge in big cities where they experiencing integration, exclusion, or even expulsion. Biopolitics, economic insecurity on labour markets and ethnic discrimination are embedded in European society and do produce inegalitarian cosmopolitanism which could produce processes of socialization, de-socialization and re-socialization in local and global societies. New migrants and new cosmopolitan actors also develop capabilities to create subpolitics and transnational spaces. Narratives of new migrants, asylum seekers and refugees are characterized by a proliferation of biographical bifurcations which does reflect a double local and global individuation’s process and new global expulsions. The theoritical challenge is how to think, on one hand, of the dynamics, the coexistence and the simultaneity of the processes of violence, segregation, expulsion of new migrants and , on another hand, the production of new biopolitics and new subpolitics in a context of humanitarian crisis in struggling any form of methodological nationalism.

미국의 자기부상열차 기술개발과 상용화 현황

이상에서 살펴본 것과 같이 과거 몇 년간 미국 내에서의 자기부상열차 기술개발과 노선건설에 있어서 그렇다할 성과는 없었다. 국가적 차원에서의 대규모 기술개발 자금지원도 없었고 단지 기업이나 주정부로부터의 재원조달이 주였다고 할 수 있다. 다행이 일본이 Washington DC와 Baltimore 노선에 일본의 초전도 자기부상열차 기술과 5조 원의 자금을 투자하겠다고 나서 가시적인 결과가 기대된다. 도시형의 경우 Orlando에서 24km 노선건설을 위한 토지임대협상이 진행 중인데 금년 봄에 결론에 도달할 것으로 알려지고 있다. 그 이외에도 몇 개의 다른 지역에서 노선건설이 추진 중이어서 더 두고 볼 일이다. 연구비 확보에 있어서는 연방정부의 지원이 줄자 전통적인 공공자금에서 민간자본으로 눈을 돌리는 것도 최근의 경향이라고 할 수 있다. 마지막으로 저자가 미국의 기술개발 환경에서 배운 점 중의 하나는 독창적인 기술이 미성숙이라고 하도라도 공개적으로 제안하고 평가를 받으며 사회는 그에 대한 연구비를 지원한다는 것이다. 그 결과 새로운 개념의 자기부상기술의 다수는 미국에서 나오고 있다.

Preterm birth is associated with epigenetic programming of transgenerational hypertension in mice

Renal and cardiovascular complications of prematurity are well established, notably the development of hypertension in adulthood. However, the underlying molecular mechanisms remain poorly understood. Our objective was to investigate the impact of prematurity on the ontogenesis of renal corticosteroid pathways, to evaluate its implication in perinatal renal complications and in the emergence of hypertension in adulthood. Swiss CD1 pregnant mice were injected with lipopolysaccharides at 18 days of gestation (E18) to induce prematurity at E18.5. Pups were sacrificed at birth, 7 days and 6 months of life. Second (F2) and third (F3) generations, established by mating prematurely born adult females with wild-type males, were also analyzed. Former preterm males developed hypertension at M6 (P< 0.0001). We found robust activation of renal corticosteroid target gene transcription at birth in preterm mice (αENaC (+45%), Gilz (+85%)), independent of any change in mineralocorticoid or glucocorticoid receptor expression. The offspring of the preterm group displayed increased blood pressure in F2 and F3, associated with increased renal Gilz mRNA expression, despite similar MR or GR expression and plasma corticosteroid levels measured by LC-MS/MS. Gilz promoter methylation measured by methylated DNA immunoprecipitation-qPCR was reduced with a negative correlation between methylation and expression (P=0.0106). Our study demonstrates prematurity-related alterations in renal corticosteroid signaling pathways, with transgenerational inheritance of blood pressure dysregulation and epigenetic Gilz regulation up to the third generation. This study provides a better understanding of the molecular mechanisms involved in essential hypertension, which could partly be due to perinatal epigenetic programming from previous generations.

The Ultimate Portraiture: God in Paradise Lost and in the Divine Comedy

Arguably the two greatest poets of the Christian world, Milton and Dante have both written about God, respectively in Paradise Lost and in The Divine Comedy. Though equally influenced by the Bible and Christian thought and sharing many affinities, the two poets adopted different approaches in portraying the Supreme Being, a task that taxes the imaginative powers of the greatest of poets. While Milton`s portraiture of God is highly anthropomorphic, reminding one very much of the epics of pre-Christian times, Dante`s parts company with that of the classical epics in a direction of its own, and is indebted for its success not to anthropomorphism, but, rather, to the avoidance of anthropomorphism. In the end, while Milton`s God is more interesting, more intriguing, and more "story-worthy" as a character, Dante`s comes closer to the true image of the Christian Supreme Being. This paper discusses the Christian God as he appears in Paradise Lost and in The Divine Comedy, compares the two poets` approaches with reference to Homer, Virgil, Goethe, and Chinese mythology, shows how, eventually, Dante turns out to be the greater master in representing the ineffable, the indescribable, and the inapprehensible.

Background: Malaria is complicated and endemic disease of Indonesian, Because malaria can make multisystem problem. The goal of research is knowing about celebral malaria related to blood group and mortality rate. Methods: Use research method is an observational prosoective study. Results: January 2009 to December 2009 have 208 patient, 164 patient with Falciparum Malaria and 44 uncomplicated malaria in general Hospital of Manado north Sulaweai. Using chi Square test for statistic analysis of data. Jaundice was foud statistically signifi cant greaten in blood groups O Compared Greaten group A, B, and AB O: 54% x2 = 38, 12. P <0, 01; ARF was foud statitistical signifi cantly for blood group B compared to O B : 50% X2 = 13, 27. P<0, 01: celebral malaria statitiscally signifi cantly greater in blood group B. compare to Blood group O. X2 = 16, 70 P<0, 01; Hiperparasitemia, Anemia and Hypotensian statistical signifi cantly blood group O: B 69%, X2 = 20, 75 P<0, 01. Conclusions: Research Conclusion is patient with blood group B have tendency ARF and cerebral malaria and mortality rate is also tends to increase in patients.
