      • Poster Session : PS 0462 ; Genetics ; Different Effects of Polymorphisms in HLA-DR Locus are Possible Between Females and Males in the Development of Graves` Disease

( E Sacide Kozan ),( Salih Kozan ),( Yalcin Aral ),( Ahmet Yildirim ),( Mesut Akyol ),( Zafer Aydin Ecemis ),( Necat Imirzalioglu ) 대한내과학회 2014 대한내과학회 추계학술대회 Vol.2014 No.1

Background: Graves` disease is more prevalent in women. HLA-DR locus, an immune response genes, is well-studied in different populations, but the difference in distributions of succestibility alleles between females and males are required to be clarifi ed. Methods: Totally 140 subjects consisting of 70 patients with Graves` disease (GD) (44 females, 26 males) and 70 controls (55 females, 15 males) were included to the study. Thirteen polymorphisms for DRB1 with DRB3, DRB4 and DRB5 were analysed by PCRSSP method. The difference in distributions of DR alleles were compared between females and males. A study model was designed for confi rming of Results: Results: None of DR polimorphisms, in existance or absence of alleles, was associated with GD among males. However, in absence of DRB1*07, GD risk was higher than the carriage of at least one allele in females (p=0.012, OR=9.56). In addition, the development of GD risk among females was higher in the carriage of at least one DRB1*15 allele (p=0.004, OR=4.67). Carriage of DRB5 was also found in association with GD among females with suggestive risk (p=0.003, OR=4.07). However, underlying cause of the risk was unclear due to the haplotype inheritance of DRB1*15/ DRB5. Conclusions: We concluded that, gender is an effective factor on the evaluation of the association between DR polymorphisms and GD.

Hospital Emergency Department Simulation for Resource Analysis

Kozan, Erhan,Diefenbach, Mel Korean Institute of Industrial Engineers 2008 Industrial Engineeering & Management Systems Vol.7 No.2

The Emergency Department (ED) is an integral part of hospitals. Admissions from the ED account for a significant proportion for a hospital's activity. Ensuring a timely and efficient flow of patients through the ED is crucial for optimising patient care. In recent years, ED overcrowding and its impact on patient flow has become a major issue facing the health sector. Simulation is rapidly becoming a tool of choice when examining hospital systems due to its capacity to involve numerous factors and interactions that impact the system. An analytical simulation model is used to investigate potential impacts by changing the following aspects of ED (physical layouts; number of beds; number and rate of patient arrivals; acuity of illness or injury of patients; access to radiology and pathology services; hospital staffing arrangements; and access to inpatient beds). Results of a significant numerical investigation at a hospital are also presented.

An Interactive Planning and Scheduling Framework for Optimising Pits-to-Crushers Operations

Shi Qiang Liu,Erhan Kozan 대한산업공학회 2012 Industrial Engineeering & Management Systems Vol.11 No.1

In this paper, an interactive planning and scheduling framework are proposed for optimising operations from pits to crushers in ore mining industry. Series of theoretical and practical operations research techniques are investigated to improve the overall efficiency of mining systems due to the facts that mining managers need to tackle optimisation problems within different horizons and with different levels of detail. Under this framework, mine design planning, mine production sequencing and mine transportation scheduling models are integrated and interacted within a whole optimisation system. The proposed integrated framework could be used by mining industry for reducing equipment costs, improving the production efficiency and maximising the net present value.

Variation of Meat Quality Parameters Due to Conformation and Fat Class in Limousin Bulls Slaughtered at 25 to 27 Months of Age

        Guzek, Dominika,Glabska, Dominika,Pogorzelski, Grzegorz,Kozan, Karolina,Pietras, Jacek,Konarska, Malgorzata,Sakowska, Anna,Glabski, Krzysztof,Pogorzelska, Ewelina,Barszczewski, Jerzy,Wierzbicka, Agnie Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2013 Animal Bioscience Vol.26 No.5

The aim of the present study was to determine the influence of age of animal, hot carcass weight, pH, conformation and fat class on basic beef quality attributes (tenderness, sarcomere length, basic chemical composition, marbling and colour) in a group of purebred animals. The object of the study was beef of Limousin bulls (25 to 27 months, hot carcass weight - $432{\pm}31$ kg, "U" conformation class, "2"-"3" fat class). Analysed cuts were Infraspinatus muscle from the blade and Longissimus dorsi muscle from the cube roll and the striploin. Tenderness was analysed with universal testing machine, colour - chromometer analysis, sarcomere length - microscopic method, basic chemical composition - near-infrared spectroscopy and marbling - computer image analysis. No differences in tenderness and sarcomere length were observed within the age groups of Limousin bulls (age of 25, 26, 27 months) (p>0.05). Moisture (p = 0.0123) and fat (p = 0.0250) content were significantly different for meat of animals slaughtered at the age of 25 and 27 months. No influence of pH value on tenderness was observed, but at the same time, influence on sarcomere length (p = 0.039) and $b^*$ component of colour (0.045) was found. For "U" conformation class, in subclasses, as well as for fat classes "2"-"3", there were no differences in tenderness, sarcomere length and colour components. Higher fat content was observed in the higher fat class, rather than in lower, however this feature was not associated with marbling.

Noncompaction of Ventricular Myocardium Involving the Right Ventricle

        Muzaffer Saglam,Hasan Saygin,Huseyin Kozan,Ersin Ozturk,Hakan Mutlu 대한심장학회 2015 Korean Circulation Journal Vol.45 No.5

Noncompaction ventricular myocardium is an unusual cause of cardiomyopathy. It is association with congenital heart defects, most often with outflow obstructive lesions or coronary anomalies. However, no factor could explain the arrest of development of myocardial structure (isolated form). The pathogenesis of isolated noncompaction is thought to be an arrest in endomyocardial morphogenesis. It has been reported that myocardial noncompaction could present as acquired disease. The most common site of involvement is the left ventricle, with right ventricular involvement being reported in a few cases. In this report, we present a case with noncompaction of the right ventricle (RV). Cardiac computed tomography angiography and magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated morphological abnormalities of the RV

The Evaluation of Oxidative Stress in the Serum and Tissue Specimens of Patients With Chronic Otitis Media

        Mehmet Fatih Garça,Mahfuz Turan,Barış Avşar,Ferhat Kalkan,Halit Demir,Ahmet Kozan,Nazım Bozan 대한이비인후과학회 2015 Clinical and Experimental Otorhinolaryngology Vol.8 No.2

Objectives. To underline the effect of oxidative stress in chronic otitis media with and without cholesteatoma and to compare the oxidative stress values in the serum and tissue specimens in these two forms. Methods. The study included a total of 75 individuals, 35 cases with chronic otitis media (COM; 16 females and 19 males) and a healthy control group of 40 cases (20 females and 20 males). The COM patient group was comprised of 18 patients with cholesteatoma and 17 patients without cholesteatoma. All patients underwent mastoidectomy. Serum specimens were taken prior to surgery and diseased tissue specimens from the ear were obtained during surgery from all patients. Only serum specimens were taken from the healthy control cases. The malondialdehyde (MDA), superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and glutathione peroxidase (GHPx) were measured in the serum and tissue samples of the patient group and in the serum specimens of the control group. Results. The age ranged from 14 to 48 years in the patient group (mean age, 20.4±12.2 years) and from 19 to 40 years in the control group (mean age, 26.4±4.64 years). When the serum values of all COM patients were compared with those of the control group, in the patient group MDA, which reflects lipid peroxidation, was found to be significantly higher (P<0.01) whereas the antioxidant enzymes SOD, CAT, and GHPx were found to be significantly lower (P<0.01). When the serum and tissue MDA, SOD, CAT, and GHPx values in patients with and without cholesteatoma were compared, no significant difference was found these parameters (P>0.01). Conclusion. Although oxidative stress plays a role in the pathogenesis of COM with or without cholesteatoma, it may not reflect the severity of the disease. In patients with COM, the evaluation of only serum oxidative stress values without tissue evaluation may be sufficient for assessing oxidative stress.
