Chilean Women and Democratization
Vol.24 No.2
Historically, women played a very traditional role in Chilean society, and under Pinochet women were assumed to continue playing a private role while men dominated the public sphere of politics. Ironically, Pinochet’s regime with its neo-liberal economic policies and political oppression resulted in women’s collective action which meant that women’s role in politics was transformed. They now began to play more public roles as they took on more economic and political roles outside the home. This article focuses on the arpillera workshops which allowed women to play an important political role in the democratization process and assist in removing Pinochet from power. After the transition to democracy, women’s political role was not suddenly and unequivocally expanded, but the election of Michelle Bachelet illustrates the legacy of the arpillera movement and how women have become more effective public actors and active participants in Chilean democracy.

Objective: In vitro culture of preimplantation embryos is improved by grouping embryos together in a drop of media. Individually cultured embryos are deprived of paracrine factors; with this in mind, we investigated whether the addition of a single embryo-secreted factor, interleukin-6 (IL-6), could improve the development of individually cultured embryos. Methods: Mouse embryos were cultured individually in $2{\mu}L$ of G1/G2 media in 5% oxygen and supplemented with a range of doses of recombinant mouse or human IL-6. Results: Mouse IL-6 increased hatching at doses of 0.01 and 10 ng/mL compared to the control (93% and 93% vs. 78%, p< 0.05) and increased the total number of cells at a dose of 0.1 ng/mL compared to the control ($101.95{\pm}3.36$ vs. $91.31{\pm}3.33$, p< 0.05). In contrast, the highest dose of 100 ng/mL reduced the total number of cells ($79.86{\pm}3.29$, p< 0.05). Supplementation with human IL-6 had a different effect, with no change in hatching or total cell numbers, but an increase in the percentage of inner cell mass per embryo at doses of 0.1, 1, and 100 ng/mL compared to the control ($22.9%{\pm}1.1%$, $23.3%{\pm}1.1%$, and $23.1%{\pm}1.1%$ vs. $19.5%{\pm}1.0%$, p< 0.05). Conclusion: These data show that IL-6 improved mouse embryo development when cultured individually in complex media; however, an excess of IL-6 may be detrimental. Additionally, these data indicate that there is some cross-species benefit of human IL-6 for mouse embryos, but possibly through a different mechanism than for mouse IL-6.

ASSET MODEL INVESTED BY SHORT-SAMPLING INTERVALS
2005 Journal of the Korean Society for Industrial and A Vol.9 No.1
We analyze some real data and, from the background of analysis of data, we define a multi-dimensional jump-type asset model which is derived from short-sampling asset prices. We study some basic properties of this asset model.
Vol.21 No.3
This paper argues that goal ambiguity is a more fundamental concern than goal conflict in managing innovation-based corporate entrepreneurship. Integrating agency and stewardship theories with the innovation and corporate entrepreneurship literatures, we develop a framework that sees the managerial role as (1) selecting project leaders based on entrepreneurial motivation and competence, (2) seeking balance in empowering entrepreneurs, providing guidance and support, and evaluating progress, and (3) recognizing entrepreneurs' efforts and ensuring they are insulated from negative consequences associated with failure. We develop propositions to illuminate the relationships suggested in this framework, and to guide future empirical work in this domain.
Robotic extralevator excision of a retrorectal giant aggressive angiomyxoma
2018 Obstetrics & Gynecology Science Vol.61 No.6
Aggressive angiomyxoma (AA) is a very rare mesenchymal tumor most commonly found in the pelvic and perineal regions. For the complete excision of retrorectal tumors, with extension through the levator muscle into the ischioanal space, open anterior and posterior approaches are typically required. Herein, we report our experience with robotic excision of a giant presacral AA with extralevator extension into the ischioanal space and extraction via Pfannenstiel incision, which we found to be technically feasible, efficacious, and safe to perform. Mayo Clinic Institutional Review Board exemption status was obtained for this study.
