Effect of Vortex Design on a Half-Ducted Axial Flow Fan (In the case of forced vortex design)

Kaji, Atsushi,Kinoue, Yoichi,Shiomi, Norimasa,Setoguchi, Toshiaki Korean Society for Fluid machinery 2018 International journal of fluid machinery and syste Vol.11 No.1

An improvement of the half-ducted axial flow fan design by applying the forced vortex design to the rotor blade was conducted by CFD. The quasi three-dimensional flow theory was applied for the half-ducted fan design, and the meridional flow was calculated by the method of streamline curvature. When the radial balance equations from hub to tip was solved, the vortex design was changed from the constant-whirl-velocity design to the forced vortex design in reference to our previous experimental results of the half-ducted fan's internal flow. The analysis of the three-dimensional internal flow fields of the half-ducted fan designed by adopting the forced vortex design was conducted. As a result of CFD, the efficiency ${\eta}$ of the fan was about 1-3 % larger at the flow rate coefficient ${\phi}$ of 0.158-0.343 than the constant-whirl-velocity design.

      • Development of Heat- and Creep-resistant Fine-grained Rapidly Solidified P/M Aluminum Alloy

        Kaji Toshihiko,Tokuoka Terukazu,Nishioka Takao 한국분말야금학회 2006 한국분말야금학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.2006 No.1

The new alloy1) is made from rapidly solidified Al-Ni-Zr-Ce aluminum alloy powder, and has the following unique mechanical characteristics:(1) The stress-strain curve shows a yield point; (2) The alloy shows high heat resistance; (3) Although the alloy is submicron particle diameter, it shows excellent creep resistance. We observed the micro structures of this new alloy, and it is thought that is based on the following reasons:(1) The dislocation strongly adheres to the alloy’s many crystal boundaries;(2) The added alloying elements have a small diffusion coefficient in aluminum;(3) The tiny intermetallic compound particles crystallizing at the grain boundary.

      • pLog: User Generated Media for Personal LBS

Kaji, Hideki,Arikawa, Masatoshi Korea Spatial Information System Society 2009 한국공간정보시스템학회 논문지 Vol.11 No.2

This paper proposes a framework for personal location based services with personal life content, for example diaries, schedules and to-do lists. A lot of Internet users are recording their personal experiences and knowledge as text and other digital media on the network. Our proposed tool provides users with an environment to store personal records with related place attributes, and to retrieve these personal records at the right place. There are two applications on this tool, a place-enhanced blog and a LBS client on a mobile phone. The place enhanced blog provides users with blog interfaces for inputting place information. The place rem inder is a browser for spatial data on the place enhanced blog. Users can generate place information by writing personal records on their blog. Furthermore, using the LBS client, other users can retrieve personal records at the appropriate spots.

      • Estimating Initial Conditions for Formation of Landslide Slip Surface by Microstructural Analysis

        ( Hiromi Kaji ),( Toru Takeshita ) 대한지질공학회 2019 대한지질공학회 학술발표회논문집 Vol.2019 No.2

The purpose of the study is to make clear of initial conditions and formation history of landslide slip surfaces. The sample for this study is from undisturbed drill cores of mudstone from Kushiro area in Hokkaido, Japan. Results of the study so far are: - Three slip surfaces located within 1 m from the landslide slip surface are observed with the naked eyes on a half cut boring core sample. For one of them, structures indicating a reverse fault sense are observed. - Smectite was detected from the current active sliding surface, however a tiny amount of smectite detected from the slip surface considered to have been slipped in the past. - Chlorite was detected by XRD, and also abundant Mg and Fe indicating chlorite were observed by SEM-EDS elemental mapping in the slip surface considered to have been slipped in the past. Those results suggest that one of observed slip surfaces is a fault itself, which was affected by hydrothermal alteration generating chlorite. In fact, since coal layers (Kushiro coal mine) occur in proximity to the research area, there is a possibility that hot water may have migrated and provided these with heat necessary for maturation of coal, and also influenced the formation of slip surface. From now on, we would like to consider the initial conditions under which landslide slip surface was formed by clarifying the formation history of the target area.

      • The Re-Launch of Lisbon: A Wake-up Call to Citizens

        ( Sahoko Kaji ) 한국EU학회 2007 Asia-Pacific Journal of EU Studies Vol.5 No.1

In order for the re-launch of Lisbon to succeed, it is not enough to increase the ``sense of ownership`` on the part of Member State policy authorities. The ``sense of ownership`` must also increase on the part of Member State citizens. This is because the changes must be (1) on the ground and (2) long term. Policies related to Lisbon are subject to the principle of subsidiarity and the Open Method of Co-ordination, and rightly so. Further, Lisbon is not a question of cyclical recovery but long-term structural improvement. EU citizens must recognise the responsibilities they have in attaining the Lisbon goals. And in as much as citizens in some Member States do so more than in others, the relative success of the re-launch will vary across the EU.

      • Label Prediction of the Unlabeled Mood of a Music Genre Using Semi-Supervised Learning

        Babu Kaji Baniya,이준환 차세대컨버전스정보서비스학회 2015 차세대컨버전스정보서비스기술논문지 Vol.4 No.2

Music genre and mood classifications are vital components of the field of multimedia retrieval and computational musicology. There is a growing interest in their development to address the difficulties of music categorization. The proposed method finds the unlabeled mood of a music genre with the help of labeled music mood datasets using different audio feature sets. Semi-supervised learning, which exploits huge amounts of unlabeled data, together with the limited labeled data for learning, has attracted a great deal of research interests. In this paper, we propose diverse audio features to precisely characterize music content. The feature sets belong to four groups: dynamic, rhythmic, spectral, and harmonic. A bin histogram was calculated from each feature to preserve all the important information associated with it. From the extracted audio features, we first tried to find the unlabeled mood of a music genre by using the labeled mood dataset. Harmonic and consistency (local and global) semi-supervised learning algorithms were considered to determine the unknown mood label of a music genre. In the next stage, we also evaluated whether unlabeled genre datasets would influence the mood classification accuracy. The unlabeled datasets were added to the training set in different proportions, so that the overall impact on classification accuracy could be analyzed. We improved the classification accuracy using an unlabeled music genre dataset in training. In the last section, we verified the classification accuracy by adding an unlabeled genre dataset to label mood with only the mood dataset (without adding a genre dataset).

      • Rice Hoppers and Associated Virus Diseases in Nepal

Hira Kaji Manandhar,Prem Nidhi Sharma 한국응용곤충학회 2012 한국응용곤충학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.2012 No.10

Nepal is endowed with rich diversity in land races of rice and also some wild rice species. Some of them are known for their resistance to insect and diseases, including rice hoppers and viruses. Nepal has so far released 68 improved rice varieties for different domains. With the introduction of improved varieties incidences of insect and diseases increased. Leafhoppers and planthoppers are among the rice insects of economic importance in Nepal. Till a decade ago, rice gundhi bug used to be the most important insect of rice. Now, hoppers have become more important. Of leafhoppers, green leafhopper (Nephotettix nigropictus), white leafhoppers (Cofena spectra) and zig zag leafhopper (Resilia dorsalis) are the common ones. Of them, N. nigropictus was found to transmit rice dwarf phytoreovirus, and N. virescens to transmit rice tungro bacilliform badna virus and rice tungro spherical waikavirus in Nepal. Of planthoppers, brown planthopper (BPH) (Nilaparvata lugens) and white-backed planthopper (WbPH) (Sogatella furcifera) are the major ones. Isolated outbreaks of BPH have been recorded from 1977 to recent past years and of WbPH in 1982. However, no virus diseases associated with BPH and WBPH have been recorded in Nepal though some yellow syndrome in large areas has been reported from BPH occurring area (Chitwan) for the last couple of years. It is worth to note that IPM-FFS (farmers’ field school) approach was adopted in 1997 in rice after the outbreak of BPH in Chitwan district. Farmers are practicing wetting and drying of rice fields for the management of BPH. Other management practices recommended include use of biopesticides, predators, light traps, chemicals and resistant varieties. With the objective of monitoring rice planthoppers and associated rice viruses Nepal in 2011 joined “Collaboration network for the management of migratory rice planthoppers and associated virus diseases of rice in Asia” - a regional project of Asian Food and Agriculture Cooperation Initiatives (AFACI), Korea.
