      • Design and implementation of a GIS-based accident management system using tracking technique

        This paper addresses a GIS (Geographic Information System) based system in order to reduce the rate of public transportation accidents occurring in Iranian roads network. Over the years, the road accidents are a major issue throughout the world. Today, particular consideration is given to those technologies which can lead to diminish on the number of critical incidents. One of the main factors resulting in accidents and fatalities rates growth is the speed violation of buses in Iranian road network. The conventional speed controlling approach in Iran based on the Tachograph which records vehicle's speed, time, and stoppage in the mechanical processing has many problems. Hence, this research is intended to design and implement a GIS-based system to manage road accident of Bus transportation system using offline tracking system. This was accomplished using a GIS-based technique that encompasses three steps. The first step is developing a GIS-based accident system. The second step includes designing and applying a tracking system inside 90 buses for recording Bus information for speed controlling. Lastly, by using mentioned system in police center, the illegal drivers' punishment would be considered properly. Overall, this system has been successfully applied in this work. Therefore, the police and transportation office are able to control and make policy to diminish the number of accident. It is anticipated that online tracking system through the Web GIS would be utilized In this system in the near future.

      • Design and Implementation of Advanced Traffic Monitoring System based on Integration of Data Stream Management System and Spatial DBMS

        The real-time traffic data is generated continuous and unbounded stream data type while intelligent transport system (ITS) needs to provide various and high quality services by combining with spatial information. Traditional database techniques in ITS has shortage for processing dynamic real-time stream data and static spatial data simultaneously. In this paper, we design and implement an advanced traffic monitoring system (ATMS) with the integration of existed data stream management system (DSMS) and spatial DBMS using IntraMap. Besides, the developed ATMS can deal with the stream data of DSMS, the trajectory data of relational DBMS, and the spatial data of SDBMS concurrently. The implemented ATMS supports historical and one time query, continuous query and combined query. Application programmer can develop various intelligent services such as moving trajectory tracking, k-nearest neighbor (KNN) query and dynamic intelligent navigation by using components of the ATMS.

      • pLog: User Generated Media for Personal LBS

        This paper proposes a framework for personal location based services with personal life content, for example diaries, schedules and to-do lists. A lot of Internet users are recording their personal experiences and knowledge as text and other digital media on the network. Our proposed tool provides users with an environment to store personal records with related place attributes, and to retrieve these personal records at the right place. There are two applications on this tool, a place-enhanced blog and a LBS client on a mobile phone. The place enhanced blog provides users with blog interfaces for inputting place information. The place rem inder is a browser for spatial data on the place enhanced blog. Users can generate place information by writing personal records on their blog. Furthermore, using the LBS client, other users can retrieve personal records at the appropriate spots.

      • A Flow Analysis Framework for Traffic Video

        The fast progress on multimedia data acquisition technologies has enabled collecting vast amount of videos in real time. Although the amount of information gathered from these videos could be high in terms of quantity and quality, the use of the collected data is very limited typically by human-centric monitoring systems. In this paper, we propose a framework for analyzing long traffic video using series of content-based analyses tools. Our framework suggests a method to integrate theses analyses tools to extract highly informative features specific to a traffic video analysis. Our analytical framework provides (1) re-sampling tools for efficient and precise analysis, (2) foreground extraction methods for unbiased traffic flow analysis, (3) frame property analyses tools using variety of frame characteristics including brightness, entropy, Harris corners, and variance of traffic flow, and (4) a visualization tool that summarizes the entire video sequence and automatically highlight a collection of frames based on some metrics defined by semi-automated or fully automated techniques. Based on the proposed framework, we developed an automated traffic flow analysis system, and in our experiments, we show results from two example traffic videos taken from different monitoring angles.

      • An Efficient Implementation of Tornado Code for Fault Tolerance

        This paper presents the implementation procedure of encoding and decoding algorithms for Tornado code that can provide fault tolerance for storage and transmission system. The degree distribution satisfying heavy tail distribution is produced. Based on this distribution, a good random irregular bipartite graph is attained after plenty of trails. Such graph construction is proved to be efficient, and the experiments also demonstrate that the implementation obtains good performance in terms of decoding overhead.

      • The LIS with the Kernel of the Process Management

        Based on the design of the LIS of GuangZhou and BeiJing, this paper discusses the resolution of the LIS with the kernel of process management. It applies the idea of workflow in the management supporting stratum, applies the process-oriented mechanism in the definition, coordination, supervision and control of the management process. The scheme has the character of information-media-oriented, work process dynamic changing supported, application system extended and restructure supported and is independent of the running environment of specific work.. Due to the previous character, the LIS is flexible, useable, elastic and able to support the dynamic application.

      • GIS Interoperability Issues for ITS Services : Map Datum and Location Referencing

        지능형 교통체계(Intelligent Transport System: ITS)를 구현함에 있어서 반드시 필요한 상호운영성을 보장하기 위한 GIS/OGIS 측면의 두 가지의 문제 (미국의 Oak Ridge National Lab. 에서 수행하였던), 위치참조체계 및 ITS Map Datum에 대한 개괄적인 검토가 이루어졌다. 위치참조는 통신을 통한 교통정보전달 및 데이터호환을 위한 필요도구이며, ITS Map Datum은 전체 서비스 지역, 주로 지역과 지역간의, ITS서비스를 구현하기 위한 핵심으로서 도로망의 기본노드 및 관련속성의 집합이다. 이 두 요소는 ITS서비스 구현에서의 기본표준으로 요망되었고 이제 그 표준안이 제시되고 있다. 특히 실시간의 교통정보가 수집, 가공, 제공되어지는 시점에서 반드시 필요한 ITS Map Datum은 국가적인 정보인프라로의 성격을 지닌 요소로서, 위치참조를 구현함에 있어서도 필수 불가결하다. 위치참조의 프로파일이 외국으로부터 빌려서 쓸 수는 있어도, ITS Map Datum은 우리가 반드시 해결하여야 하는 부분이다. 미국 사례의 전체적 개요와 이런 과정에서 우리가 본받아야 하는 기본적, 제도적인 이슈 부분에 대한 언급이 장차 해결해야 하는 연구항목과 함께 제시되었다. Two GIS and/or OGIS issues for ITS interoperability have been proposed and reviewed with some implications to Korean setting. They are location referencing and ITS map datum. The former must support ITS communication and data sharing. Therefore, an introduction of location referencing and other related issues have been addressed along with the Oak Ridge National Lab.'s (ORNL) location referencing scheme. The latter, proposed by ORNL, is a planned network of anchor points across the nation, that could potentially serve as a positional reference for ITS application (Gottsegen, 1997). It is composed of a set of nodes and links in a standard non-plannar network at a coarse scale for the entire nation for referencing purposes. To provide case of real time traffic information and to guarantee the seamless interoperability, we do need to develop the core ITS map datum as a national infrastructure, and the location referencing scheme should also be either developed or borrowed and localized to meet the domestic needs. Some institutional issues are also addressed along with the future research agenda.

      • UIL:A Novel Indexing Method for Spatial Objects and Moving Objects

        Ubiquitous service based on Spatio-temporal dataspaces requires not only the moving objects data but also the spatial objects. However, existing methods can not handle the moving objects and spatial objects together. To overcome the limitation of existing methods, we propose a new index structure called UIL (Union Indexing Lists) which contains two parts: MOL (Moving Object List) and SOL (Spatial Object List) to index the moving objects and spatial objects together. In addition, it can suppose the flexible queries on these data. We present the results of a series of tests which indicate that the structure perform well.

      • Research of Vehicle Navigation Based Video-GIS

        In order to make the effect of the navigation system more direct, the paper proposes a thought of vehicle navigation system based on Video-GIS. A semantic framework has been defined whose core is focused on the integration and interaction of video and spatial information, which supports full content retrieval based on multimodal metadata extraction and fusion, and supports kinds of wireless access mode. Furthermore, requirements of prototype system are discussed. Then the design and implementation of framework are discussed. Next, describe the key ideas and technologies involved. Finally, we point out its future research trend.

      • Real-Time Terrain Rendering Framework for GIS Applications

        Real-time 3D visualization of terrain data is one of the important issues in GIS(Geographic Information System) field. We present a real-time terrain rendering engine that can use several types of GIS data source such as DEM(Digital Elevation Map), DTED(Digital Terrain Elevation Data) and LIDAR(Light Detection And Ranging). Our rendering engine is a quadtree-based terrain rendering framework with several acceleration modules. This can generate an ocular and binocular image. Also it can be applied to the flight simulation, walk-through simulation and a variety of GIS applications.
