Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by increased blood sugar levels. The current management of DM to date has a target of controlling blood glucose, but the therapy cannot be separated from long-term drug side effects. Acupuncture can be an option as an adjunct therapy for DM. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to compare the effectiveness between manual acupuncture and laser acupuncture. Methods: This study was a randomized control experimental study with a pretest and posttest design using 24 male Sprague-Dawley rats divided into 4 groups: a normal group, a diabetes group, an acupuncture group, and a laser group. Manual acupuncture and laser acupuncture were performed 6 times in two weeks. Fasting blood glucose (FBG) levels, the cell density of Langerhans islets, and side effects were assessed and compared among the 4 groups. Results: The highest mean cell density of Langerhans islets was found in the laser and acupuncture group, and the lowest was found in the diabetes group. In the post hoc analysis, the normal, acupuncture, and the laser groups had a significantly higher mean cell density than the diabetes group. The lowest mean FBG level was in the laser group, followed by the acupuncture group, and the highest was in the diabetes group, but this difference was not significant. There were no serious side effects from the use of manual acupuncture or laser acupuncture. Conclusion: Both manual acupuncture and laser acupuncture can improve the histological findings of Langerhans islets in type 2 diabetic rats, and both are safe to use.

Monocytes could be infected with infi uenza virus and induce rapid differentiation into myeloid dendritic cells (mDCs). Virus-induced mDCs secreted chemoattractants for monocytes (MCP-1 and IP-10). We aim to evaluate monocyte, chemoattractans for monocytes and IFNalpha in infi uenza virus H5N1 and H1 N1. Secondary data were evaluated from medical record of H5N1(n=10) and H1N1 ( n=8) who were hospitalized in Hasan Sadikin Hospital since 2005. MCP-1, IP-10 and IFNalpha were evaluated using secondary data from previous study by Jusuf H : A Comparison of cytokine level between infi uenza A (H5N1) with infi uenza A (pH1N1) Mann Whitney test was used for comparison between H5N1 and H1N1, survive and death subjects. The correlation between chemoattractans for monocytes (MCP-1 and IP-10), IFNalpha and monocyte count were calculated using Spearmann correlation test. Monocyte count was lower in H5N1 compare to H1N1 (90 (0-240) vs 139 (36-560)/mm3, p 0. 17). Monocyte count was higher in survive compare to death subjects (150 (0-560) vs 75 (36-240) /mm3, p 0. 09). The death subjects had signifi cantly higher MCP-1, IP10 and IFNaplha (2171. 5 (985- 10000) vs 674. 4 (450. 2-1209. 3) pg/ml, p 0. 03, 3186. 9 (2436, 2-3937. 6) vs 971. 4 (520, 7-2387. 4) pg/ml, p 0. 03 and 354. 0 (87-2499. 8) vs 18, 6 (1. 41-184) pg/ml, p 0. 003, respectively). There was strong and signifi cant negative correlation between monocytes count and MCP-1 ( R -0. 8, p 0. 042) and between monocytes count andIP-10 ( R -0. 8, p 0. 019). Monocyte count could be used to characterized the severity of infi uenza viral infection. The lower monocyte count correlate with the higher chemoattractant for monocytes produced by mDCs.
A Climatic Responsive Urban Planning Model for High Density City: Singapore's Commercial District

Local climate condition and urban morphology affect air temperature generated within urban canopy layer which related to urban heat island (UHI) intensity and later impacts on outdoor thermal comfort and urban energy usage. Climatic responsive urban planning by careful consideration on urban morphology parameters of urban corridor width, building height, urban surface materials, sky view factor (SVF) and vegetation help to improve urban environment quality. This study mainly focuses on commercial district and observes impacts of various urban structures configurations towards air temperature by interpolating climatic and urban morphology predictors. The urban structures indeed show relation with level of air temperature generated although vegetation also contributes in reducing air temperature through its evapotranspiration process. Therefore the understanding of relation between urban morphology with thermal performance and UHI benefits in future urban planning and development.

A new approach to the layout of integrated circuits with multiple symmetry axes is presented in this paper. When more than one symmetry is present, the usual approach to placement grad compaction makes extensive ruse of hierarchy, which requires firmed positions for symmetry ayes. As a result, wiring and area optimizations rare poor. The position of a virtual symmetry axis is variable, and dynamically defined by the center of a group of symmetric modules and wires called cluster. Virtual symmetry axes have been implemented in a placement tool using the Simulated Annealing algorithm and in a compaction tool based on the constraint-graph longest-path algorithm. Results are shown proving the suitability of this approach.
