An experimental investigation was conducted to study the effect of surface roughness on condensation heat transfer characteristics of horizontal circular tube varying the roughness configurations. Eight pin-type finned-tubes were tested using the steam as a condensing substance. Sharp fin-shaped tube shows higher overall heat transfer coefficient, heat transfer rate and tube outside heat transfer coefficient based on the outer surface area of the smooth tube than the blunt one. In addition, the lower the fin height, and the wider the fin pitch, the higher the overall heat transfer coefficient, heat transfer rate and the tube outside-heat transfer coefficient. Globally varying the fin shape and fin pitch showed larger influence on the condensation heat transfer characteristics than the fin height variation.

In this paper, we fabricated a persistent current mode magnet using Bi-2223 HTS tapes. The coil system consists of double pancake magnet and a persistent current switch and jointed them with solder. Persistent current mode operation of the system was measured experimentally by the decay behavior of the current. We found that resistive component of the system including flux flow resistance lead the exponentially field decay with time.

<B>Graphic Abstract</B> <P>Polyacrylamide/MWNTs nanocomposite is prepared using MWNTs functionalized with carboxylic acid or carboxylic anion groups. The modified MWNTs show significantly improved colloidal stability without aggregation in aqueous acrylamide solution. Herein, the effect of dispersion uniformity of multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) on the thermal conductivity of poly(dimethyl siloxane) (PDMS) composites was investigated by comparing experimentally obtained and calculated results based on simple models. Two different MWCNTs, i.e., raw and oxidized/masterbatched MWCNTs, were used and compared. For raw MWCNT, the dispersion in PDMS was poor, resulting in the significant reduction in the aspect ratio of MWCNT. However, for composites using masterbatched MWCNT, the thermal conductivity was always about 10% greater than those prepared with raw MWCNT and the aspect ratio calculated by the model equation was also 1.7 times greater. Above 1.5 phr masterbatched MWCNT concentrations, the aspect ratio of 430 was maintained. Finally,the results suggest that the thermal conductivity can be correlated with the degree of dispersion and aspect ratio obtained from the model equation used.

<P>Mutations in the optic atrophy 1 gene (<I>OPA1</I>) are associated with autosomal dominant optic atrophy and 20% of patients demonstrate extra-ocular manifestations. In addition to these autosomal dominant cases, only a few syndromic cases have been reported thus far with compound heterozygous <I>OPA1</I> mutations, suggestive of either recessive or semi-dominant patterns of inheritance. The majority of these patients were diagnosed with Behr syndrome, characterized by optic atrophy, ataxia and peripheral neuropathy. The present study describes a 10-year-old boy with Behr syndrome presenting with early-onset severe optic atrophy, sensorimotor neuropathy, ataxia and congenital cataracts. He had optic atrophy and was declared legally blind at six years old. Electrophysiological, radiological, and histopathological findings were compatible with axonal sensorimotor polyneuropathy. At birth, he presented with a congenital cataract, which has not been previously described in patients with <I>OPA1</I> mutations. Whole exome sequencing indicated a pair of novel compound heterozygous mutations: p.L620fs*13 (c.1857–1858delinsT) and p.R905Q (c.G2714A). Neither mutation was observed in controls (n=300), and thus, they were predicted to be pathogenic by multiple <I>in silico</I> analyses. The mutation sites were highly conserved throughout different vertebrate species. The patients parents did not have any ophthalmic or neurologic symptoms and the results of electrophysiological studies were normal, suggestive of an autosomal recessive pattern of inheritance. The present study identified novel compound heterozygous <I>OPA1</I> mutations in a patient with recessive optic atrophy, sensorimotor neuropathy and congenital cataracts, indicating an expansion of the clinical spectrum of pathologies associated with <I>OPA1</I> mutations. Thus, <I>OPA1</I> gene screening is advisable in the workup of patients with recessive optic atrophy, particularly with Behr syndrome and cataracts.</P>
내진보강 섬유의 재료별 특성에 따른 기둥의 내진성능 효과 분석

FRP섬유와 알루미늄 다공판으로 제작된 내진보강시스템은 가벼운 중량과 공장생산을 통하여 균질한 품질과 간편하고 신속한 시공성으로 철근콘크리트구조의 기존 철도시설보강에 적합한 보강시스템이다. 본 연구에서 탄소섬유, 유리섬유, 고성능 유리섬유 및 아라미드와 알루미늄 다공판을 적층하여 제작한 복합판으로 보강된 철근콘크리트 기둥의 보강성능을 반복횡하중 실험을 통하여 평가하였다. 실험결과에 근거하여 보강된 기둥과 비보강된 기둥의 하중-변위이력, 파괴모드, 강성 및 연성 등을 비교하였으며, 유리섬유의 인장강도를 개선한 고성능 유리섬유의 보강성능이 가장 우수한 것으로 나타났다. Composite plate composed of fiber and perforated aluminum plate is lightweight and mass produced in order to consistent quality and rapid construction. It is appropriate for seismic retrofit system of the existing railway concrete structures. In this study, concrete column experiments reinforced by composite plate made of 4 types of FRP(carbon fiber, glass fiber, high performance glass fibers and aramid) with perforated aluminum plate were tested under lateral cyclic loading. Comparing load-displacement relation, failure modes, initial stiffness and ductility, plate composed of high performance glass fiber was found better performance than the others.
Effect of melt water interaction configuration on the process of steam explosion

<P>Steam explosion experiments are performed at various modes of melt water interaction configuration using prototypic corium melt. The tests are performed to simulate bothmelt water interaction in a partially flooded cavity and melt water interaction in a cavity with submerged reactor. The tests are performed using zirconia and corium melts. The behavior of melt jet fragmentation during the flight in the air and fragmentation and mixing of melt jet in water is investigated by a high-speed video visualization and by comparison of debris size distribution and morphology of debris. Strength of steam explosion is estimated by measuring dynamic pressure and dynamic force.</P>
