• Heparanase mRNA and Protein Expression Correlates with Clinicopathologic Features of Gastric Cancer Patients: a Meta-analysis

        Li, Hai-Long,Gu, Jing,Wu, Jian-Jun,Ma, Chun-Lin,Yang, Ya-Li,Wang, Hu-Ping,Wang, Jing,Wang, Yong,Chen, Che,Wu, Hong-Yan Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.18

Background: Heparanase is believed to be involved in gastric carcinogenesis. However, the clinicopathologic features of gastric cancer with high heparanase expression remain unclear. Aim : The purpose of this study was to comprehensively and quantitatively summarize available evidence for the use of heparanase mRNA and protein expression to evaluate the clinicopathological associations in gastric cancer in Asian patients by meta-analysis. Materials and Methods: Relevant articles listed in MEDLINE, CNKI and the Cochrane Library databases up to MARCH 2015 were searched by use of several keywords in electronic databases. A meta-analysis was performed to clarify the impact of heparanase mRNA and protein on clinicopathological parameters in gastric cancer. Combined ORs with 95%CIs were calculated by Revman 5.0, and publication bias testing was performed by stata12.0. Results: A total of 27 studies which included 3,891 gastric cancer patients were combined in the final analysis. When stratifying the studies by the pathological variables of heparanase mRNA expression, the depth of invasion (633 patients) (OR=4.96; 95% CI=2.38-1.37; P<0.0001), lymph node metastasis (639 patients) (OR=6.22; 95%CI=2.70-14.34, P<0.0001), and lymph node metastasis (383 patients) (OR=6.85; 95% CI=2.04-23.04; P=0.002) were all significant. When stratifying the studies by the pathological variables of heparanase protein expression, this was the case for depth of invasion (1250 patients) (OR=2.76; 95% CI=1.52-5.03; P=0.0009), lymph node metastasis (1178 patients) (OR=4.79 ; 95% CI=3.37-6.80, P<0.00001), tumor size (727 patients) (OR=2.06 ; 95% CI=1.31-3.23; P=0.002) (OR=2.61; 95% CI=2.09-3.27; P=0.000), and TNM stage (1233 patients) (OR=6.85; 95% CI=2.04-23.04; P=0.002). Egger's tests suggested publication bias for depth of invasion, lymph node metastasis, lymph node metastasis and tumor size of heparanase mRNA and protein expression. Conclusions: This meta-analysis suggests that higher heparanase expression in gastric cancer is associated with clinicopathologic features of depth of invasion, lymph node metastasis and TNM stage at mRNA and protein levels, and of tumor size only at the protein level. Egger's tests suggested publication bias for these clinicopathologic features of heparanase mRNA and protein expression, and which may be caused by shortage of relevant studies. As a result, although abundant reports showed heparanase may be associated with clinicopathologic features in gastric cancer, this meta-analysis indicates that more strict studies were needed to evaluate its clinicopathologic significance.

      • Staged Improvement in Awareness of Disease for Elderly Cancer Patients in Southern China

        Li, Xing,Dong, Min,Wen, Jing-Yun,Wei, Li,Ma, Xiao-Kun,Xing, Yan-Fang,Deng, Yun,Chen, Zhan-Hong,Chen, Jie,Ruan, Dan-Yun,Lin, Ze-Xiao,Wang, Tian-Tian,Wu, Dong-Hao,Liu, Xu,Hu, Hai-Tao,Lin, Jia-Yu,Li, Zhu Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.15

Background: In mainland China, awareness of disease of elderly cancer patients largely relies on the patients' families. We developed a staged procedure to improve their awareness of disease. Materials and Methods: Participants were 224 elderly cancer patients from 9 leading hospitals across Southern China. A questionnaire was given to the oncologists in charge of each patient to evaluate the interaction between family and patients, patient awareness of their disease and participation in medical decision-making. After first cycles of treatment, increased information of disease was given to patients with cooperation of the family. Then patient awareness of their disease and participation in medical decision-making was documented. Results: Among the 224 cancer elderly patients, 26 (11.6%) made decisions by themselves and 125 (55.8%) delegated their rights of decision-making to their family. Subordinate family members tended to play a passive role in decision-making significantly. Patients participating more in medical decision-making tended to know more about their disease. However, in contrast to the awareness of disease, patient awareness of violation of medical recommendations was reversely associated with their participation in medical decision-making. Improvement in awareness of diagnosis, stages and prognosis was achieved in about 20% elderly cancer patients. About 5% participated more actively in medical decision-making. Conclusions: Chinese elderly cancer patient awareness of disease and participation in medical decision-making is limited and relies on their family status. The staged procedure we developed to improve patient awareness of disease proved effective.

Fabrication of magnetically recyclable ZrO2-TiO2/CoFe2O4 hollow core/shell photocatalysts: Improving photocatalytic efficiency under sunlight irradiation

        Hong-xia Jing,Jing Huang,Na Li,Long-xiang Li,Jingyue Zhang 한국화학공학회 2019 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.36 No.4

TiO2 is an important material for photocatalytic oxidation to degrade organic pollutants, but its utilization under visible light is low, recovery is difficult, and stability is poor. We prepared ZrO2-TiO2/CoFe2O4 (Zr-Ti/Co) photocatalyst with hollow core-shell structure by sol-gel method and layer-by-layer self-assembly method with tetrabutyl titanate and Zirconium n-butoxide as main raw materials. The samples were characterized and analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), solid ultraviolet visible diffuse reflection (UV-Vis DRS), fluorescence (FL), ultraviolet visible absorption (UV), vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). It is concluded that the TiO2 maintains a good anatase phase structure in the Zr-Ti-Co photocatalyst. Under UV light and sunlight, the degradation rate of the photocatalyst reached 96.1% and 99.7% for 60 min, respectively, for Rhodamine B (10mg/L) reaction system. And after repeated use for five times, it still showed better regeneration and reuse.

fects of Dietary Soy Intake on Maternal Thyroid Functions and Serum Anti-Thyroperoxidase Antibody Level During Early Pregnancy

        Jing Li,Xiaochun Teng,Weiwei Wang,Yanyan Chen,Xiaohui Yu,Shen Wang,Jianxin Li,Lin Zhu,Chenyan Li,Chenling Fan,Hong Wang,Hongmei Zhang,Weiping Teng,Zhongyan Shan 한국식품영양과학회 2011 Journal of medicinal food Vol.14 No.5

Soy and its isoflavones have been suggested to suppress thyroperoxidase (TPO), induce goiter, inhibit deiodinase, and modulate immune functions. This study initially investigated the effects of dietary soy consumption on maternal thyroid functions and anti-TPO antibody (TPOAb) production during early pregnancy. Data were collected through questionnaire from 505 women enrolled during early pregnancy by random sampling in Shenyang, China. Based on soy intake frequency, the subjects were divided into three groups (frequent [three or more times per week], conventional [more than twice per month but less than three times per week], and occasional [two or fewer times per month]). Serum thyrotropin (TSH), free thyroxine (FT_4), and TPOAb were measured by chemiluminescence immunoassay. Additionally, the concentrations of two primary isoflavones (daidzein and genistein) and creatinine were assessed in the spot urine samples from representative subjects (about 20%) randomly selected from the three groups. The percentages of frequent, conventional, and occasional consumers were 18.6%, 62.6%, and 18.8%, respectively. No difference was found in age, medical records, family history of thyroid diseases, serum FT_4, TSH, and TPOAb levels, TPOAb-positive percentages, or prevalence of thyroid dysfunctions among the groups. Both urinary daidzein and genistein levels were significantly higher in the frequent consumers compared with the other two groups. No correlations were found between urinary isoflavone levels and serum FT_4 or TSH. Urinary isoflavone levels were not significantly different between TPOAb-positive and -negative women among the randomly selected representative subjects. On the whole, our findings suggest dietary soy consumption during early pregnancy is not associated with the development of thyroid dysfunction or autoimmunity.

The Enhancement of Handling Stability for Driver-combined-vehicle Systems Through Adaptive Steering Controller

        Jing-Hong Li,Qiang Wang,Gao-Hong Yu,Chuanyu Wu 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2021 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.19 No.1

Drivers who lack sufficient experience would be unable to achieve handling stability due to the variationand dynamics of the combined vehicles (CVs). Drivers face hurdles in the stabilization attempt once these vehiclesare rendered unstable. In this investigation, the use of the behavior of real vehicles to track the desired properties ofthe developed combined vehicles can help maintain good handling stability despite the present varying dynamics. This paper provides an appropriate design method for CVs to gain suitable handling property for such vehicles. Thedeveloped adaptive steering controller (ASC) allows the tracking of the desired vehicle by the real vehicle, despitethe variation of parameter and lack of information of the real vehicle. Simulation results are obtained to validate thatthe handling stability was improved by using one design parameter, which minimizes frequency oscillation causedin the wheel steering angles. The introduction of a driver model that can simulate the real vehicle demonstrated thatthe adoption of the ASC is useful in the driver-tractor-semitrailer system

      • Antiviral activity of Herba Patrinea (a Chinese medicinal herb) against respiratory syncytial virus in vitro

Li, Hong-Yuan,Li, Shan-Shan,Liu, Dian-Li,Dong, Yan-Mei,Tian, Wen-Jing Kyung Hee Oriental Medicine Research Center 2003 Oriental pharmacy and experimental medicine Vol.3 No.2

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) has long been considered an important cause of severe lower respiratory tract infection in infants and young children throughout the world. Unfortunately, no effective treatment of RSV exists. Therefore, New agents are needed to reduce the impact of RSV. We have studied the anti-viral effect of traditional Chinese midicinal herbs for over ten years and find Herba Patrinea (a Chinese medicinal herb) has the anti-RSV effect in vitro. In this study, the Herba Patrinea was extracted with hot water, condensed and sterilized. The cytotoxicity of the aqueous extract was tested by adding the diluted extract directly to HeLa cells and its effect on anti-RSV was estimated by the CPEI assay. As a result, the median cytotoxic concentration $(CC_{50})$ of Herba Patrinea was 32 mg/ ml by morphological observation, the median effective concentration (50% effective concentration, $EC_{50}$) of the Herba Patrinea against replication of the Long strain of RSV in HeLa cells were 1.25 mg/ml. The selectivity index $(SI=CC_{50}/EC{50})$ is 25.6. Moreover, Herba Patrinea gave a dose-dependent response in inhibiting RSV. In time of addition experiment, Herba Patrinea inhibited replication of RSV in HeLa cells when it was added at 0h, 2h, and 4h after virus infection. In summary, the results of this study suggest Herba Patrinea may be a novel anti-RSV drug and it is worthy of further studying.

A FEEDBACK-DRIVEN BUBBLE G24.136+00.436: A POSSIBLE SITE OF TRIGGERED STAR FORMATION

        Liu, Hong-Li,Wu, Yuefang,Li, JinZeng,Yuan, Jing-Hua,Liu, Tie,Dong, Xiaoyi IOP Publishing 2015 The Astrophysical journal Vol.798 No.1

We present a multi-wavelength study of the IR bubble G24.136+00.436. The J = 1-0 observations of (CO)-C-12, (CO)-C-13, and (CO)-O-18 were carried out with the Purple Mountain Observatory 13.7 m telescope. Molecular gas with a velocity of 94.8 km s(-1) is found prominently in the southeast of the bubble, shaped as a shell with a total mass of similar to 2 x 10(4) M-circle dot. It was likely assembled during the expansion of the bubble. The expanding shell consists of six dense cores, whose dense (a few of 10(3) cm(-3)) and massive (a few of 10(3) M-circle dot) characteristics coupled with the broad linewidths (>2.5 km s(-1)) suggest that they are promising sites for forming high-mass stars or clusters. This could be further consolidated by the detection of compact H II regions in Cores A and E. We tentatively identified and classified 63 candidate young stellar objects (YSOs) based on the Spitzer and UKIDSS data. They are found to be dominantly distributed in regions with strong molecular gas emission, indicative of active star formation, especially in the shell. The H II region inside the bubble is mainly ionized by a similar to O8V star(s), of the dynamical age of similar to 1.6 Myr. The enhanced number of candidate YSOs and secondary star formation in the shell as well as the timescales involved, indicate a possible scenario for triggering star formation, signified by the 'collect and collapse' process.

      • Expression and Effects of JMJD2A Histone Demethylase in Endometrial Carcinoma

        Wang, Hong-Li,Liu, Mei-Mei,Ma, Xin,Fang, Lei,Zhang, Zong-Feng,Song, Tie-Fang,Gao, Jia-Yin,Kuang, Ye,Jiang, Jing,Li, Lin,Wang, Yang-Yang,Li, Pei-Ling Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.7

Previous studies have demonstrated that JMJD2A is a potential oncogene and is overexpressed in human tumors. However, its role in the endometrial carcinoma remains largely unknown. In this study, we discovered that JMJD2A was overexpressed in endometrial carcinoma, using immunohistochemistry, quantitative realtime polymerase chain reaction, and western blotting. Downregulation of JMJD2A led to reduced endometrial carcinoma RL95-2 and ISK cell proliferation, invasion and metastasis as asessed with cell counting kit-8, cell migration and invasive assays. Collectively, our results support that JMJD2A is a promoter of endometrial carcinoma cell proliferation and survival, and is a potential novel drug target.
